  1. Gotta love how the Packers are finally on the back burner here. I personally loathe the Pack. I'm glad that the Brewers game today is at the exact same time as the Packers game. It's going to be funny when all the Rubes go into the bars (in their Zubaz and Super Bowl XXXI Sweatshirts and matching leather jackets) and get upset when the Packers are on the small TV with no sound. Heck, they might not even be able to see "the race". That will really make their heads spin. Hopefully it will be another perfect weekend for me..... Brewers wins and Packers and Badger losses.
  2. Not feeling good about today. I've seen too many junk lefties shut down this lineup this season when they have absolutely no business doing so. Moyer will work the outside part of the plate just like Hamels did the other day. If Moyer racks up more than 5 k's today I'm going to lose it.
  3. OJ? He's so 1995. I'm into baby Calee now.
  4. I couldn't care less. I go to watch the game, not the band. I'm always en route to the nearest watering hole before the 5th quarter even gets underway.
  5. Geez. Did Gaylord Perry give Gallardo pitching lessons or what?
  6. Not so sure why everyone here is always so concerned whether a player gets booed or cheered....but I'm sure it was a lot of the Cub fans that were booing Sheets. Anyway, what team in their right mind would give Sheets a big money contract? My guess is that he goes to a big market team for a one year $15 million or so deal. I'm kind of fearing that he may come back to the Brewers on a three year deal when he finds there are really no takers in the open market for a multi year deal. "Hometown discount" for a player coming of an injury a la Cal Eldred, and we all know how that one turned out. The thing is that from reading Sheets' quotes from yesterday, it's pretty obvious that he doesn't want to come back.
  7. Of course Yount 3,000 hits in 1992 was a memorable game... Probably not one of the best since they blew it. I can still see Darren Holmes throwing the ball down the first base line. How about Robin Yount day in 1994? If I'm not mistaken, they made a huge comeback.
  8. Personally, I think the 31 hit game against the Blue Jays in 1992 should be in the Top 5.
  9. Not a clue, I think it's winning baseball. Goes against all these Billy Beane disciples, I guess.
  10. Now THAT was a clutch hit. Prince has been making me eat my words since I made this post and I couldn't be happier.
  11. Say what you want about Lou, but he's scored a lot of points in my book by playing to win these games that are meaningless to the Cubs (even though it might not turn out good for the Crew this weekend). He very easily could have went Tony Dungy on us, but he is maintaining the integrity of the game.
  12. I'd do the Pierre trade in a heartbeat. I know how much he is hated on this board, but he is a better lead off hitter than anyone the Brewers have at this point. Most here downgrade him because he doesn't walk, but he also rarely strikes out. He can also execute a sacrifice bunt (something that's a rarity on this team). Getting Pierre would allow the Brewers to let Cameron walk and free up some cash to sign a decent SP. Wish the Dodgers would do this, but there is no way they will. We are stuck with Suppan unless someone else has a crappy pitcher making 8 figures on their roster. That didn't work out too well last time (Eldred for Navarro).
  13. I just wanted to stop by and ask the Suppan apologists if his performance the last two starts is still in line with his "career norms"? If that is not the case, did we still get what we paid for? Oh by the way, Parra=2008 = Victor Santos 2004 I had a bad feeling that his first half was smoke and mirrors...though some may argue he has hit the wall with innings pitched, my feeling is that the league has figured him out after seeing him once.
  14. Has anybody noticed how badly Cain has been pitching lately? I think that I would trade Hardy for him straight up, but I'd have to think long and hard about it. Fielder AND Hardy is insane.
  15. I've always found Vedder to be a pretentious twit, and this only solidifies that belief.
  16. With all the talk about the Phillies, it seems that a lot of people are overlooking the recent "difficulties" the Mets are having right now. As we stand, the crew is only .5 games behind the Mets. I would almost think that their situation is more dire than that of the Brewers. Their bullpen is horrible (even worse than the Brewers), they have 6 road games in a row coming up, they play the Cubs 4 times, and they have the added pressure of avoiding last year's collapse in a pressurecooker media market. Worst of all, Nelson Figueroa is their scheduled starter for Wednesday. Not sure what everyone else thinks, but I believe they are much more "catchable" at this point than the Phillies.
  17. If Sveum gets them to the playoffs, I think the job is his. Kind of like 86, when Trebelhorn stepped in, the team went on a run for the last two weeks and he got the job. If not.... I would have been interested in Davey Johnson a 5 years or so ago, but in my opinion he's been out of the loop too long. Valentine would be OK, but I don't see him leaving Japan to come here. He's kind of Billy Martin clone, e.g. could get a lot of success for the first year or so, and then flame out quickly. I don't see what Mattingly brings that Yount wouldn't.... I think the team as it's constructed right now needs a manager with MLB experience. Brenly would be interesting, but how much of that championship that he won was a result of Arizona dropping a gazillion on payroll? I'm not interested in Hargrove... ask a fan of the teams that he's managed how they feel about him- he gets more vitriol from the fanbase than Yost. Willie Randolph was the runner up last time, but I don't see a fit there.... My number one choice would be very unlikely to happen, but I think that Mark should dig deep in his wallet and get on the horn with Tom Kelly. Maybe he could be lured back with an insane amount of cash.
  18. I'm going to say the night in December 1992 when ESPN broke the story around midnight that Molitor had agreed with the Jays was worse- this was close though, even though the sinking feeling started on Thursday night.
  19. Why don't they just not let fans in the games if they are played in Miller Park? This should negate any home field advantage for the Cubs. Both teams have played in Florida this year so they have experience playing in an empty stadium. You'd think that the Player's Union would let them play the games in a AAA stadium somewhere. They should have 20-some to choose from.
  20. I hope this doesn't happen. I don't want to hear all the conspiracy theory idiots claim that Selig is doing this to help the Brewers make the playoffs.
  21. Seriously, I think that Yost should go Billy Martin and draw the lineup out of a hat tomorrow. Maybe that would spark something. The thin bench is really coming back to bite this team. Outside of maybe Durham or Rivera is there anybody off that bench that you feel confident about getting a pinch hit? You can't even bench an ice-cold starter on this team because anyone who would replace him is virtually an automatic out.
  22. I hate to say it, but I'm feeling 1-3. Tomorrow should be the most winnable game, so if they lose things could go south fast. I have a bad feeling that Jenkins is going to come up big at least once....
  23. I don't really consider an RBI double in the 3rd inning of a 0-0 game to be a clutch hit, but in any case, I just looked and Fielder is hitting .233 this year with RISP, .180 with RISP and two outs. Not good.
  24. I don't care what anyone says, Prince is EASILY three bills. I also could care less about what his OPS is, when is the last time he has gotten a clutch hit in a big situation (e.g. not down 8-1 or up 6-0). He seriously needs to lose the attitude and about 40 pounds or he will not be an effective player in this league anymore by the time he's 30. Dude literally and figuratively "got fat and lazy" after his big season last year.
