  1. I'm pretty sure that he did some fill in work for the Twins on WCCO pre-Brewers, but not very much. At the time the Brewers hired him, I didn't really think that anyone could fill Pat Hughes shoes adequately, but he has.
  2. Riske's performance this year makes me long for Scott Linebrink back as the set-up man. Never thought that I'd say that... If Torres doesn't come from nowhere to stabilize the closer role, this team would have been in deep, deep doo doo. Good thing that he didn't retire.
  3. You guys must be too young to remember or are forgetting how bad Brewers TV announcers have been historically. I grew up with my dad muting Mike Hegan and turning Ueck on the radio. Vuckovich was absolutely horrible as well. Skipping ahead a few years, does any body remember the horribly atrocious combo of Rory Markus and Del Crandall? I think the current guys are pretty good, especially when you think about the announcers of the past. Of course, back in those days you were lucky if 40-50 games a year were televised.
  4. Lamb is one of the few players in baseball that I would play Counsell ahead of. He was beyond atrocious with the Twins this year, probably the worst position player who saw significant playing time in the A.L. Isn't Morgan Ensberg out there at least? A lot of people on this board were high on him this past off season.
  5. He's washed up. Done. And yes, he is stealing, though the team was stupid enough to give him the contract they did (same with Riske). Yost needs to handle him like Trebelhorn handled Cecil Cooper in 1987.
  6. If the Philly series is must win -e.g. a three game or less lead, you have to hold him back.
  7. If booing Gagne when he comes in from the bullpen has the same end result as booing Helms did on opening day.....gone at the end of the year - I'm all for it.
  8. Are those who do not learn from history doomed to repeat it? Well probably not....but one of the precipitating factors in the Braves slide in attendance in the 60's was the fact that they banned the practice of carry in beer. Caused a huge backlash.
  9. I agree 100%. The people who don't want this kid to play are the same ones that want to ban strikeouts and not keep score. Kind of defeats the purpose of sports...
  10. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I believe the 1979 team had a better record than the 1982 team.
  11. Lots of these ushers seem to be on power trips. True, they have to deal with idiots for most of the day, but some seem to get off on messing with people. The cops are always going to side with them, so they "can't lose" an argument.
  12. I couldn't care less if Kendall has no power. He has been a huuuuuge upgrade over Estrada.
  13. What is it with Walgreen's stores and skeezy people? It seems like every time that I am in one (no matter where) the place is full of weirdos.
  14. I disagree....Illegal Alien is one of my favorite 80's tunes. I agree with the earlier poster that nothing can touch Rockstar by Nickelback. I never thought a song could irritate me more than Brown Eyed Girl but Rockstar does.
  15. No way could Hall have been there. That dude never goes clubbin'.
  16. Branyan = 3TO Nix = AAAA
  17. I don't think the juicer Sheffield will be getting inducted. He's pretty much washed up at this point, so the only milestone number that he will hit is 500 homers, which really doesn't mean squat anymore. His numbers don't even approach Palmeiro's, and there is no way Rafael get in.
  18. I never understood the "sandals are comfortable" thing. Seems like people always get blisters from them. I can't ever remember getting blisters from shoes - plus I don't have to worry about my toes getting sunburned.
  19. Worst thing I ever smelled was a whiff out of a jug of spoiled milk that had I found at work once in a storage room. It had been there so long it was clear. Not the worst ever, but how about Jefferson when the cat food is cooking....yuck.
  20. I've seen Mitchell and Ness jerseys like that with Sheffield (for effigy dummies only, apparently), and I think Molitor and Yount before on Ebay. Keep checking on there and one will probably turn up.
  21. I gotta think we are at the point where this season is going to affect Prince's arbitration number. He is on pace to hit .270 with 30 homers and 90 rbi, certainly a "good" season, but not extraordinary for a cleanup hitter. I have to think unless he catches fire for the last two months, he has cost himself some serious scratch this season.
  22. This would be a nice move. Perfect lefty pinch hitter and he provides depth in case anyone in the outfield goes down. As long as it's a 3 month pickup and they are not stuck with his salary next season, I'd be for this.
  23. Point taken. That said, Washburn is a fly ball pitcher, and moving from a pitcher's park to Miller Park, I would guess his ERA would move to the 5 range. The only way that I'd consider a trade for him would be if they took Suppan and some salary could be saved (not even sure if that's the case though). Even though I'm not a big fan of Suppan, I probably wouldn't do it even if money could be saved, because I think he is a notch better than Washburn at this point. No way in heck I'm carrying BOTH Washburn and Suppan on the the roster at those bloated salaries. Let the Cubs do stuff like that.
  24. Come on. Please give Johnny a break. He's not lazy, and everybody knows that most people pack on about 95 pounds while they are rehabbing a "bad knee". If his elbow wasn't bothering him last year, he could have easily thrown out about 10% of opposing base stealers. What a garbage player. He makes my all-time "Worst Brewers Ever" team as the catcher. Pretty tough to do, considering he was only here one season. In my opinion, the best offseason moves were dumping Estrada and Mench and replacing them with veterans who actually care about playing the game right.
  25. Please, God, no. After dodging a bullet and not signing him a few years ago, I thought I could finally relax. Just when the seemingly never ending Dave Roberts rumors seemed to have finally been put to rest.... now I have to worry about this.
