  1. K-Rod is living in a dream world if he thinks he's going to get $2 million plus at this stage of the game. I don't see anyone giving him much more than the minimum, to be honest. If he's holding out for a certain dollar amount, he won't be back in baseball.
  2. I couldn't care less about any of the post game programming. For me, the channel changes almost immediately after the final out. I don't care to hear Roenecke spouting one cliche after another segueing into Davey/Craig spouting cliches. Now, if the Brewers hired Hal McRae as manager, I would be interested in those post-game pressers....
  3. Judging from what I've seen so far, I think there are plenty of candidates to share the burden. Unfortunately, it appears like the days of singling out a borderline starter, a reliever, or even the 23rd/24th/25th man on the team out for this role may have passed us by.
  4. An early nominee for worst at bat of the year from Weeks. Didn't take the bat off his shoulder knowing an automatic out was coming up next. Pathetic.
  5. He's 20 years old. Had he stayed in college, he'd be a top 5 pick this year. We lost someone pretty darn good. 20 year olds don't average 15 and 8. They just don't. Impressive, but I'm sure that the list of guys who have logged the shot attempts and minutes per game at that age to match Harris' numbers post trade is almost as short. This deal could obviously look bad in a few years, but I'm not going to believe the sky is falling until I see that Harris sustains and improves from this point on a legit NBA team from the start of the season. Harris certainly isn't leading the Magic to any wins. As for the Bucks, they look horrible. Truly backing into the playoffs. Boston has been trying to gift them the 7 seed too. I'd be shocked if they win one game against the Heat the way they are playing.
  6. I didn't see any extreme twisting or extension on the replays, it look more like he jammed his knee to me. Still not good, but hopefully that's the case. However, with the Brewer's luck, expect the worst.
  7. I have a feeling that there is a scene from Major League that will be reenacted all over Miami tomorrow when people are reading this in the paper.
  8. This situation has existed ever since Miller Park was built. At least County had bathrooms accessible from the outside. As I stated earlier, I believe there is a reason besides cheapness/incompetence for this... could be that they want to drive people into the stadium earlier, or perhaps some social engineer told them that by limiting the bathrooms, somehow people will drink less.
  9. As I've said earlier in this post, I'm not going to sweat Harris until he shows that he can put together this good play for an entire season. It's pretty common for bad teams to play no defense whatsoever at this point in the season, so I'm not going to put too much stock in a small number of games.
  10. Fairly off topic... Is it me or is there very little buzz about the game today? A Wisconsin team is playing for the freaking Final Four and even on Jsonline, the stories are pretty much buried. I know that Marquette takes a back seat to the Badgers, but if this was the Badgers, it would be all that you see/hear about.
  11. That is great! This link includes some video footage of the Bazooka Bubble Gum Blowing Championship. Thanks for the link! Some pretty cool shots of a 20 ish Robin Yount blowing bubbles (while wearing a Schlitz t-shirt none the less) at the end of the video.
  12. I think that Marquette is going to have to hit a decent percentage of the outside shots today to have a chance. That Syracuse defense has looked pretty much impenetrable thus far, and to me, next to Louisville they have been the most impressive team thus far in the tourney. I have to think that the Cuse may be due for a stinker offensively, so it may turn out to be one of those ugly, low scoring Big East battles.
  13. My theory on this is that they want to drive people into the stadium to buy their beer inside- though the situation is not much better in there, maybe worse for the women. Honestly, for an organization such as the Brewers, how much would it cost them to rent a few hundred extra porta-potties for the day? I've been to small local festivals where the portajohn situation is much better. I don't want to hear the loss of parking spots excuse either, because there are plenty of grass medians to locate these and you can probably get six to a spot.
  14. I have a collection of Brewer cards collecting dust in my closet. At one point in time, I had all the regular issue cards from Topps, Fleer, Donruss etc. from the 1969 Pilots on plus a ton of whatever oddball stuff I could find. Then in the early 90's, each company started coming out with a gazillion sets so I stopped. Next to the Yount RC, this one is probably my favorite Brewer card of all time: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1976-TOPPS-564-KURT-BEVACQUA-BUBBLE-GUM-CHAMP-NM-MT-0001937-/00/s/NTk3WDQ1NA==/$(KGrHqJ,!ooE8dB2rQToBPSFgzF59Q~~60_12.JPG
  15. I'm not a fan of this. I kind of liked what I saw from Stinson last season. The ironic thing to me is that they are keeping 13 pitchers on the roster, yet they lose someone like Stinson to keep a 'guy' like Lalli. So two of the four bench players that they will have are primarily catchers, along with Yuni and one backup OF? Doesn't make much sense to me.
  16. I agree with the above. The way that they gouge people for parking, they should be able to at least triple the number of porta potties out there on Opening Day. It's ridiculous to have to wait 10 or 15 minutes to take a leak because one huge area of parking has like 6 or 8 available bathrooms.
  17. I could actually live with that somewhat, as it's probably better than anyone that he bumped from the rotation could put up. I actually envision the worst case scenario being much more dismal... say 4-7 with a 5 plus ERA in 75 innings and a 'has began long tossing from a flat surface' status next spring.
  18. If Lohse was 24 years old instead of 34, I would put much more stock into his past two seasons. To me, the bottom line is that age 35 or thereabouts is generally where starting pitchers go to die. Toss in the fact that he is a finesse pitcher coming from a pitcher's park from an organization known for turning journeymen into serviceable pitchers, only for them to fall off the face of the earth after they leave town. The fact that no one else really had any interest in him off a career year speaks volumes to me. Additionally, Lohse is only a few years removed from a major injury. There are so many red flags here that it's hard not to be cynical. All that I'll say is that hopefully I'm proven wrong on this one.
  19. The more that I think about this, the madder I get. Why do the Brewers always seem to sign the guys that no one else wants?I've seen the whole "he's better than Soup ever was" argument, but you have to also factor in that he is two years older than Suppan was when he signed. Bottom line, I would have been upset if they would have signed him to a one year deal. The fact that they gave him three is mindblowing to me. This is the epitome of a low reward high risk deal.... the only way it will be worth it is if he pitches close to the way he has the past two seasons AND stays healthy... good luck with that one. I was really looking forward to the first season in a long time without a middle-aged middle of the rotation albatross making eight figures too.
  20. This is a joke. Honestly if the guy was any good don't you think that one of the big money teams would have signed him long ago? Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them, and the Brewers are likely the laughingstocks right now.
  21. To me it seems that the argument by Gammons, etc. is a bit flawed because isn't revenue sharing based on revenues and not payroll (expenditures) or profit? I will not claim to be an expert on how the system works, so I looked this up on fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/business/revenue-sharing/ Please feel free to correct me on this if I'm mistaken, but what I got from that is that all teams contribute a percentage of their local revenue to a fund which is then split equally across the teams... basically meaning that the big dollar teams pay in more than they get back and vice-versa. Looking at the Astros, they are in one of the bigger markets in baseball, so I would think that they would have a pretty solid revenue stream going. Has it been confirmed that they are getting a big chunk of revenue sharing? Being in that market, I can't believe that it would be much, and if it is, someone down there is doing something wrong.
  22. I won't disagree that the Astros are stripped down with no pretty much no hope of competing, but haven't there been teams like that every year? I doubt that this is part of a plan to secure more 'draft dollars', however. The payroll is this low mostly due to economics. The team was recently sold, and most importantly they aren't saddled with any horrible contracts or dead money. At this point, they seem to be going about things the right way- why throw money away on mediocrity to fill up the roster. Without looking at things, my guess is that attendance/revenue will be way down in Houston this season, so why spend money just to put on a facade that you are trying to compete this season. People can argue about a salary floor all day long, but the players union didn't get one, hurting mediocre players like Lohse in the process.
  23. Garland looks to be going to the Rockies. That could be ugly.
  24. I think that Boras is a scumbag, so I'm thrilled to see this. Boras made his name by representing draft prospects and asking for the moon, creating an unfair situation for the small market teams. Largely due to his greed, MLB changed the rules to level the playing field and be more in line with other sports. Now he's crying because his mediocre client turned down a guaranteed 8 figure deal? His tears fall on deaf ears here. Simply put, he gave terrible advice, vastly overestimating the market for a middling mid 30's pitcher coming off a career season. His preposterous claim that MLB teams would actually tank to get a better spot in the draft belies the fact that he thinks that he is smarter than everyone else. This will hurt his reputation among players moving forward, so I'm glad for that. I really hope that no one signs Lohse all year.
