  1. I don't have much interest at all in bringing Redick back at the numbers that are being tossed around. My guess right now is that Jennings will be the only one of the three guards brought back. I just can't see them letting all three walk. I'd have a tough time believing that Ersan would net the 3 overall pick, but I'd take that in a heartbeat if Washington offered.
  2. A day that will live in infamy in the annals of Brewer history. Tough to believe that it was 30 years ago today that the Brewers traded Gorman Thomas to the Indians. I remember I was at some kind of church summer school function and one of the older kids came in with the news. Of course, back in those days, I didn't believe it until I saw it on the news. I was crushed. I knew who Rick Manning was, because he gave me an autograph a few years before, but I still knew that it was a horrible deal. The trade was definitely worse on a symbolic basis than on paper, but those were dark days. Anybody else have any memories?
  3. Of the likely candidates for a fire sale, I wouldn't be surprised if Henderson had the most relative value of anyone if he can come back and pick up close to where he left off. Everyone is looking to add bullpen arms down the stretch. All the other likely suspects have one or more of... salary/contract/injury/performance concerns.
  4. I was posting this last night before the board went down, but what is the timeline suggested here regarding the clinic ledger? Is it clear whether or not these alleged transactions happened after Braun won the appeal? If not, it kind of seems like double jeopardy to me. I'm guessing that based on Braun's defense, that these happened after the positive test. Even then, I don't know how they can suspend him for 100 games.
  5. I'm more excited about the fact that Herb finally broke his silence today. To be completely honest, regarding the Bucks, I'm much more concerned about what happens off the court for the next 3-5 years than on it.
  6. Not to bag on the kid, but you know that it's been a rough season when this move gets this kind of interest. The bottom line is that the best thing for this organization is that Rickie figures things out. In the past week or two, I've seen some signs that he may be coming out of his funk. I also was impressed to see Rickie encourage Scooter after his at bat, a lot of guys wouldn't do that.
  7. Looks like something lit a fire under Rickie. On another note, this is another reason that I don't like replay. We are going to have a delay here, and what is the call if that's not a home run? It's certainly not a double.
  8. I was unaware that Jeremy Bonderman had continued his career. I can't believe that he's only 30 either.
  9. I have never seen a team so consistently awful in big situations. The amount of guys left on the bases by the offense combined with the amount of 2 out RISP hits by the opposition is absolutely ridiculous.
  10. I'd be willing to bet that the Brewers lead the league in trainer visits. It seems like they have one almost every game
  11. I wouldn't say that the Brewers are guilty of neglecting pitching, but the bottom line is that you can't blow as many drafts as the Brewers have in recent years, in particular first round picks. Even if you took an average first round success rate of 20%, the Brewers are way behind the curve when it comes to pitching- I'm not talking about ace type pitchers either, I'm just talking about guys who could be a serviceable starter for a few years. They haven't exactly been striking gold in the other rounds either when it comes to pitchers. It's gotten to the point where you almost have to assume that both scouting and organizational development play a role in this problem. I'd be interested to know the average tenure of the Brewers' amateur scouts.
  12. I think if things don't get righted soon, we'll see a coach or two fired. I agree that Kranitz is the logical choice to go under the bus. I'd be pretty shocked if Roenicke or Melvin get the axe until the off season though. The schedule softens up a bit here for the next three weeks. If they don't really pull themselves together in a big way, it's season over no matter what. A major shakeup would be pretty pointless by then.
  13. It's a tad cheesy, but I actually like this one better than the 'original', which is great as well.
  14. I personally think that he's improved a lot in the past year. That said, he will never make people forget Hughes or Powell. I've listened to a lot of White Sox games in my life, and for whatever crazy reason, Block always seems like an 80's Sox radio guy to me.
  15. I'd have no interest in Barton. He's done nothing in the bigs, and has zero power for a 1B or versatility.
  16. Personally, my memories of the ACLS (games 3, 4, and 5) and game 162 against the Orioles are both more vivid than those of the World Series. Some of the things that I remember most from the Angels series include (not necessarily in order): Coop's single in Game 5 Marshall Edwards' catch Brouhard stepping up with the bat Charlie Moore gunning down Reggie The idiot who turned an out into a Bob Boone homer by pulling a ball out of Benji's glove (20 years before Bartman) and, of course the final out and the celebration ceremony on Channel 18
  17. Nice analysis Crew. Let's go past the #1 ace type potential pitchers for a moment, and just look at any serviceable starting pitchers that have come from recent drafts (when I say recent, I mean this century). The cupboard has been bare. Bottom line, how many guys have the Brewers drafted in recent years who have even went on to make 30 starts in the bigs? Gallardo and.... pretty pathetic. Everyone made it out like the Bando regime had no clue when it came to drafting and player development (and there's a lot of validity to that), but even they had a better track record of drafting and developing young pitching... which isn't saying much.
  18. Foolish bullpen decisions aside, the problem with this team lies more in their inability to execute in clutch situations than the manager. The hitting and pitching are both noticeably worse with men on base. In particular, it's a crime that they haven't been able to score more runs considering the seasons that both Segura and Aoki have had at the top of the order.
  19. Morneau looks to be toast to me. He hasn't been the same player since that concussion issue.
  20. So a sawed off bloop single was the tipping point for you? No, the fact that he allowed Axford to pollute this game is sickening. If they lose, it's on Roenicke.
  21. I've pretty much been a defender of Roenicke, but as I'm sitting here watching Axford give up a leadoff single with a one run lead in the 8th, I've got to bash. If the Brewers lose this game, it's on the manager.
  22. Well, Rickie is way ahead of last year's pace...last year at this point, his average was in the .150's. He's up roughly 25 points from that- last year he didn't even break .180 until late June. For some reason, I was much more frustrated with him last year than I am now, probably because my expectations are lower now. I really doubt that they will bring Scooter up at this point. I think they are going to give Rickie another few months, but he may have to share time a bit with Yuni once Hart gets back.
  23. Nice work, Jim! The first Bando draft. I think that this question may win me some free drinks at the bar from my friends when we are playing Brewer trivia.
  24. That's true, but I'd argue the Brewers' track record in this is far worse than the draft even. Outside of Higuera, who is the last above average player they have picked up this way and developed? Maybe I'm missing someone, but I'm thinking Sixto Lezcano.
