  1. Segura has definitely come back down to earth. I think he's going to be a very good player, but maybe not someone that you want to lock in for big dollars when the team still has several more years of control regardless. Two cautionary tales would be Pat Listach and Castro from the Cubs.
  2. I always worry when the Bucks give a big contract to a guy off a breakthrough season. Those generally haven't worked out very well for them over the years. That said, I'm on board with this one.
  3. Is it just me, or does it seem like it's Francisco's destiny to play in Japan?
  4. I thought the statement was pretty crafty. To me, it looked like he admitted to a one time mistake, but it was pretty open-ended in case something pops up down the road.
  5. I think that it's too little too late regarding Ramirez. I'd be pretty surprised if anyone would take on that salary for next season without asking for a big chunk of it from the Brewers, and I wouldn't do that
  6. I've never seen anything definitive that Dino was fired, did I miss something? Last I heard, he was in Florida collecting samples for the Cubs.
  7. Sunday rant here... I normally don't let ESPN get to me, but I'm so sick of hearing about Matt Kemp and Kirk Gibson whining about Braun. Good god, I hope that Braun gives Kemp the MVP just to shut the Dodger fans up. Maybe MLB can do some revisionist NCAA style tricks and give the series to the D'Backs to placate Gibson and his wife. Maybe they should look at the 2001 trophy at the same time, as Gonzo was the most obvious juicer baseball has seen this side of Brady Anderson.
  8. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't see the point in shelving Peralta after he reaches some subjective innings/starts limit. If he shows some signs of wearing down, sure, but I certainly don't see that at this stage.
  9. Regarding ARod, there is no honor among cheats. He is a snake, so I don't know why anyone would be surprised by anything he does at this point to save his own skin. I'm convinced that the only reason he's fighting this out is greed. He's going to play as much of that contract out as he can. It's a shame that he can't be blackballed from the game like Bonds was. As for Braun, when he does come forward with his 'statement', I really hope that he treads carefully. The early reports regarding this have been focused on his usage during 2011. If he's not 100% forthright, he's going to be dodging questions for the rest of his career.
  10. I'm not a fan of the idea. Over the years, it seems the few times that the Brewers have developed a catcher who can hit, they can't move him off the position fast enough. In five years, I may be on board, but not now.
  11. Very sad to hear this. It's been a tough few weeks for Milwaukee baseball. Johnny was one of the best ambassadors of the game Milwaukee has had.
  12. I'm not sure what's crazier, the contract that the Blue Jays gave Rios or the fact that two teams in three years have claimed him on waivers.
  13. Maybe Braun to first base wouldn't be so far fetched... He is going to take heaps of abuse from fans in LF next year. I still think that we may see Ramirez in the mix, but I think the first driving factor is how much (if at all) they want to bring Hart back. BTW, is it me, or have we been talking about Gamel and Green forever? I'm not bagging on them, but I could swear that I read about these guys in What's Brewing. It's not too often that you see one fringe prospect (let alone two) hang around in purgatory with the same organization.
  14. Coshun is definitely waiting in the wings, but I'm somewhat heartened by the fact that they once passed over a local fill-in guy (Kasper). I would not be surprised to see Sutton back in the mix either, if he didn't burn bridges last time.
  15. I'd be willing to bet that the number one reason there weren't more trades at the deadline is that teams just weren't willing to give much. The pendulum of perceived value has definitely swung toward the prospects in recent years, and most team trading veterans seem to be doing so primarily to dump salary as opposed to adding bonafide talent. I'm all for the Brewers trading vets for blue chippers, but I don't get the bashing that they didn't make trades 'just because'. I think Melvin was underwhelmed with the offers and he decided not to put guys out there OBO.... that's the Dean Taylor school of thought, and I really don't want to go back there.
  16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVJ80MQLEuk Your post immediately made me think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVJ80MQLEuk
  17. The problem from the TW point of view is if they cave to TMJ for a 'few extra cents', everyone they negotiate packaging deals with is gong to come at them the next negotiations with increased demands. If that happens, guess who pays more? Don't get me wrong, there is greed on both sides, but I can see TW's position on this better. Bottom line, this is two dinosaurs in their death throes battling it out, as I think we are not far from the end of cable/satellite/network television as we know it. The future of TV is streaming.
  18. I'm on the other side of this. I'm getting tired of the TMJ propaganda team led by Wexler, getting radio time on TMJ in an attempt to sway people to their position. The first few times I heard him peddling his snake oil, it was fairly amusing, but now it's annoying. They want the cable companies to pay more for something that frankly I think they should be paying for.... with any additional costs getting passed on to the customers. Also, it's pretty pathetic that the best thing that they have to 'sell' consumers on is a meaningless preseason NFL game or two. Says a lot of the lack of quality programming on their channel.
  19. As an argument against folks who claim that steroids 'don't even help much', Cruz is example A. He went from AAAA to a star. I used to bag on Melvin for trading him, but no more. As for Braun, I'd probably expect him to put up numbers moving forward comparable to this year. I have a strong suspicion that he was juicing last year.
  20. Well, it looks like the tank proponents got their wish. We shall see... but to me, this looks like a mid 20 win team at best.
  21. Very sad news. Scott was hands down the Brewer MVP of the 70's.
  22. That is a very good point. Lohse's 2nd half of this year may very well be his most productive portion of his remaining contract. I would pay most of his remaining salary to get a good player back. Lohse is owed roughly $25 million on his deal. Outside of maybe the top few prospects in baseball, I don't think that anyone in the minors is worth that kind of money, especially when you consider the first rounder that the Lohse signing cost. I wouldn't ask for a king's ransom for him, but with the way that Lohse has pitched this season, the Brewers shouldn't have to pay a penny of his salary either.
  23. I don't buy that he's ever going to make a very clear and definitive statement in the future. I have a feeling that we are always going to hear that there is some reason (legal or otherwise) that he can't come completely clean. That's unfortunate to me, and I don't think that his handlers and PR team have done him any favors to this point either.
  24. From everything that I've seen and heard, Molitor has generally been a class act with the fans, and was always a good community guy while here. He was also a heck of a ballplayer. I really couldn't care less about his personal issues as they didn't really ever affect any of these things as far as I could tell. Those issues are between him and his family/friends in my book.
  25. At the risk of coming off as cynical, I'd bet that the whole Rodgers/Braun deal is more of a business partnership than a true friendship. The media has helped perpetuate things to get their 'brand' out there, and now I'm sure that Rodgers is regretting the relationship a bit.
