  1. It's frightening how bad Soup's contract is. 2/25+.............yikes. Soup/Cameron for Melky gets turned down by the Yankees.............scary.
  2. I loves me some Brandon Morrow. That said, I can't imagine Seattle trading him straight up for Fielder. As the OP said, those are the kind of guys Seattle should be hanging onto. Now, if Jack has a couple of Brewer farmhands that he just can't live without......
  3. I wouldn't mind Kennedy for Cameron if we had anyone remotely palatable to play CF. Since we don't, and there doesn't seem to be a good answer out there, I'd just keep Cameron and hope Cain is ready for 2010.
  4. If all it would take for Vazquez + Swisher is something like Hart + Hall This was pretty much the exact deal I was thinking of. Swisher is a pretty big upgrade to Corey (unless you think last year wasn't an abberation), and I'd gladly take on a little salary to get rid of Hall. Swisher will cost more than Corey over the next three years, but not by a huge margin, probably about $6m over the three years, plus there's an option for 10M if he does pan out. You shore up the SP with Vazquez and improve your offense while adding approximately $7M this year depending on Corey's salary. Weeks Hardy Fielder Braun Swisher 3b Cameron Kendall is a much more attractive lineup balance-wise and obp-wise than last year. Plus it precludes another stupid 4/40 type contract for an average starter.
  5. I think he could be had for close to nothing. I think they'd just like to shed the contract. If we gave them Hall, we'd have to give up more due to Bill's negative value. I would consider a Hall + B type prospect for him, say a David Welch type. Without Hall, I would offer Josh Butler and see what they say. In any event, I would much prefer Vazquez to a FA signing just because he's only got two years left. Any other remotely attractive FA would likely require four years at the same rate.
  6. But I would be very happy to add Cameron at a 1 yr./$10M deal. People are getting to the point of ignoring any & everything that might stand in the way of their odd distaste for one of the best CF in baseball in 2008. I really don't understand it. This sums it up for me perfectly. The dislike for Cameron from some posters on this board (and a lot of 'average' Brewer fans that I speak to) is just mind-boggling. And the name I hear quite often as a replacement is Gwynn. As has been pointed out by many others before me on this thread, that is lunacy. He couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag, and has proven it ad nauseum.
  7. I'd like to get starting pitching as well, but if this deal came up I'd take it and look to deal with pitching via another avenue.....with the money saved here a pitching coming back wouldn't need to be pre-arb (although that is obviously preferred). Feliz is a pipe dream (I know you didn't say you thought they could get him). They probably wouldn't trade him straight up for Fielder. He may have the highest upside of any minor league pitcher.
  8. I would love this trade personally, as I think Davis would be very close to Fielder when encompassing both offense and defense (IIRC, Davis is an average defender), and Salty would be a very valuable piece, spelling Kendall against tough righties and spelling Davis against tough lefties. Davis' ability to play some third would add t overall team versatility as well. As far as Gamel goes, this would allow him to spend all of 09 in AAA, which would be my preferred course of action. The Blalock/Hall component is icing on the cake. This deal saves us around 6-7 million in 09 depending on Fielder's arby number and as much as 15-17 million in 2010. Having said all of that, I wouldn't think Texas would like it if for no other reason than the money (no chance they add a pitching prospect imo) unless they love Fielder.
  9. Can you show me a link or statistics that shows Rickie gets to far more balls than most 2nd baseman? Out of qualified 2nd baseman his zone rating is 9th out of 16. His range factor is also 9th out of 16. I am not an expert on those statistics by any means and I am not sure how accuratly STATS Inc. measures their typical "zone", but I am not seeing what you are talking about. If you are calling JJ's range terrible, than Rickies would be terrible as well because his zone rating is almost the exact same.Yeah, well my face is red. I clearly didn't research that comment before I made it, I was just going on the "eye test". Which I don't normally do. Needless to say, I'm stunned by that information. Hardy is about where I'd expect him (maybe a little higher), and Weeks is considerably lower than I expected. I really thought Weeks would rank a lot higher than that, particularly given some of the stone-footed 2b in the NL this year like Kent & Uggla. Given the statistical evidence, I guess Hardy is quite a bit better than Weeks.
  10. There was a big thread devoted to this where users actually 'repicked' the first round. If you go back a few pages, you'll find it.
  11. Hardy's probably a little bit better, but it's a heck of a lot closer than most people think imo. JJ has great hands and terrible range, Rickie has great range and terrible hands. Because Rickie's errors are so bad I.e. On routine plays, his repuatation suffers. He makes up for those by getting to far more balls than most 2basemen. Again, closer than people think, but JJ's still got the edge.
  12. I would absolutely love this, but TB is way overpaying in this scenario. No way they give up Hellickson, McGee & Davis for Fielder. I could see a scenario similar to this, but I would think it would be more like Prince to TB & Jeffress to SD, and 2 pitchers from TB to SD. At that point, it's a little pricey for us. I would defiinitely give up Escobar, Gamel & a Welch-type for Peavy in a heartbeat. We suddenly have a pretty good team next year, although the future gets a little dicey.
  13. I like this idea, although I wouldn't give up more than Escobar and a C type pitching prospect. Nelson is a guy that will be on the bench next year in all likelihood, and Escobar is extremely valuable to a team like Baltimore who has no SS on the horizon. Guthrie would be a nice, relatively cheap piece (I believe he's arby eligible). As far as the rest of the team, I agree that 3b is priority #1 on offense. I like the idea of a Lamb/Hall platoon barring any other major upgrade possibilities. Please please please don't sign a high-priced FA pitcher though. Suppan is killing us already and he's only 2 years in. Burnett has the very real potential to be a complete disaster and Lowe doesn't fit with this defense. I would definitely go the trade route for a pitcher, and would prefer to trade Escobar over Hardy or Fielder.
  14. Ok. Ok. I may have overstated it a bit, but he is downright awful. I think the rest of the Brewers' infield "defense" is skewing my memory a bit.
  15. He is the worst first baseman i've ever seen, and he'll only get worse as he gets fatter. Extreme groundball pitchers should be avoided, imo, until the infield defense isn't atrocious.
  16. I want no part of Lowe with our infield defense. I think he'll be waaaay overpaid to just be average which is what he's likely to be outside of dodger stadium. As far as Tex, i'd sign him to 6/110 in a heartbeat. Trade Prince for pitching. He's worth 18 a year, far more than Lowe is worth 16.
  17. I believe they can't sign him until May 1st if they don't offer him arby though. Not sure, but I thought that was the rule. In any case, it is extremely unlikely that he'd be back.
  18. --agreed--if you don't know now, you're right.......you never will --very much agreed --nice attitude
  19. Goin' to Vegas. Hopefully they'll be undefeated while i'm there (games 3 and 4). I've had this trip planned since June, so I'm sure glad they made it.
  20. Well, I will admit to being a little hard on Ueck in the past, but jeez what a great call. I think the reason I'm so hard on him is because I'm old enough to remember how great he was in the past, particularly with Merle Harmon. In any case, that's one of the greatest calls of my lifetime along with "Thank you Wayne Cook!" and "Levens through a hole big enough to drive a truck to the Super Bowl!".
  21. Yikes. I can't say anything else without getting a strike.
  22. I'll be out if they hire John Kruk. He makes Ned seem like Aristotle. My choices would be someone who uses stats and removes his gut as razorsharp said. And doesn't like the bunt or hit and run, which was pretty much Ned's only redeeming quality.
  23. Wow. Houston got royally hosed. Why can't they just play in Arlington?
  24. I agree. I'd rather go with a "Heether type" for the minimum than a "Loretta type" for 2 mil+. As for the original topic, the more I read about Cain and the Giants, the more I think it's a pipe dream to get him for Hardy. More like Fielder.
  25. You know it's bad when the opposing team feels the need to comment on it as the Padres did on Sunday. Yeah, it's your right. We have a lot of rights that prudence prevents us from exercising.
