  1. I thought about this too. I think I'd rather have some pitchers personally.
  2. Might want to start with your quote on your posts Yep. I really don't hate them like I did 15 years ago.
  3. As I said earlier in this thread ..... bringing Ellsbury to Milwaukee? Just, NO. The only way a deal involving Ellsbury makes sense, is if he's moved right on through to another team - which I would have to think is what would be happening. I guess I don't really see the problem. I edited an earlier post with what I'd offer, so I'll paste it here: I'd say Brewers get Ellsbury Sheffield Adams $30,000,000 Yankees get Broxton That'd be my offer. I'd be pretty thrilled with that trade.
  4. Not sure I agree with this. That bullpen could be a major problem for them. Of course, the offseason isn't over yet. I definitely agree with your opinion on Stearns' moves though. On a related topic, if any mods see this, is it possible to change a username? Mine is really stupid and I'd like to change it if possible.
  5. Yeah, I was trying to figure it out too. Your deal seems light on the Yankee end to me. This is us giving up Broxton, a prospect (both of which aren't worth much) and paying a pretty much useless player $38,000,000. Someone will come in with the values of prospects, but I personally wouldn't pay $38,000,000 (plus minor value) for Albert Abreu. I'd need more. I'm glad someone tried to put it together though. Edit: I looked it up myself and surplus value of a pitcher 76-100 is 15.6M. Having said that, I'd take Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield and another lower level prospect and they can keep Abreu. I'm using 2017 pipeline numbers so I also may be off a bit. That's a deal I could get behind, no problem. I'd say Brewers get Ellsbury Sheffield Adams $30,000,000 Yankees get Broxton That'd be my offer.
  6. There's lots of reasons to take Ellsbury. They just have to be compensated well enough to do it. These kinds of deals happen all the time in the NBA. The Cavaliers took on Baron Davis' contract and ended up with Kyrie Irving and a championship for their trouble. I have no problem whatsoever as long as the assets coming with him are valuable enough. Our ability to take on payroll is huge right now and I hope (and think) Stearns is smart enough to use it if he can't find free agents he likes.
  7. Darvish 5/125. I would have mixed enotions on that. This team shouldn't be paying a pitcher 25 a year, but He is an absolute blast to watch pitch.
  8. not for what it will cost us in prospects, he is soooo over rated on this site, I truly hope it is not him. he gives up a bunch of runs, but at least he had a good K/HR rate while doing it!!
  9. The yankees writer who reported the rumor claims that Albert Abreu would be coming to Milwaukee. He was signed when Stearns was still in Houston. This makes sense. Eh. Elbow problems. Huge talent but scary. I'm having a little trouble picturing what this deal could look like. He's got 3 years and 68 million left. It's an insanely terrible contract.
  10. What makes you say that? He either guessed well or had inside info last year. I believed him then and I believe him now.
  11. Didn't they just acquire Soria? Yes. And hes making $10,000,000 this year. He won't cost much prospect-wise. He should probably come with a prospect.
  12. Not much interesting on the White Sox roster. At least that they'd trade Maybe Soria?
  13. This board is funny sometimes. People are very very sensitive. I love it because it's the best of its kind, but it cracks me up occasionally.
  14. Exactly. I'll never question a player taking security up front. I know it's easy for me to say because I'll never be in that position, but unless I'm being insanely lowballed, give me the lifetime security. 23M is an insane amount, to me at least. The minute I sign, it doesn't matter what happens. As long as I'm smart, my family and I have lifetime security. I never have to worry about where my next check is coming from, and my kids can go to any college they want. That's all I need. Life happens. You could turn down an extension one day and be in a car accident the next day and never play again, you could get injured playing the next year, you could flame out under the pressure to perform, or you could end up like Zach Braddock, with mental issues and ending up broke living out of your trunk. Life can happen no matter how talented you are. Is it really worth risking everything because you might end up making $60M over the same timeframe instead of $23M if everything breaks right? Are you really that much better off even if it does? Is it worth taking that kind of a chance on your Life? To me, it's not. But I respect the player's right to make their own choice on that and live with the consequences of that choice. Putting myself in a players shoes, I think I'd be very inclined to take a team friendly deal that left money on the table but set up me and my family for life from that point forward. You can get greedy on your 2nd deal in your late 20's or early 30's if you really want. But I agree completely, player's can do what they want. Most players have enormous ego's and are very willing to bet on themselves for that reason. I hope Villar bounces back and earns more than the rumored extension through big arbitration raises due to a few big years with the Brewers. Just ask Jon Singleton. He got $10MM and may never play in the bigs.
  15. **guilty** I'm on my way there myself.
  16. I always hated the Jungmann pick. Low ceiling college arm. Gross. I liked the Bradley pick a lot more at the time. Turns out they both stunk, although Jungmann was clearly better than Bradley. I distinctly remember hoping they'd take Matt Barnes, which woudn't have been all that great either although I'd like him for our bullpen right about now.
  17. I see a lot of people are already trying to talk themselves into Arrieta just in case the Brewers sign him............
  18. It wouldn't fly for Cleveland. IF Salazar is getting dealt, then Julian goes no where. Here is why: The starting depth (beyond the guys in Cleveland) is thin at the start of the year. Julian would likely be 1st arm called up if an injury in the rotation during the 1st half of the season. Ryan Merritt (the normal call the past 2 years) is now out of options. He is most likely bullpen bound (if not moved in a trade). Mike Clevinger (the other call up guy) is likely taking the rotation spot of Salazar. It is the past success of/ presence of Clevinger that is enabling the Indians to consider moving Salazar. Cody Anderson had TJ surgery in March 17 so he might be available for a call come the mid-point of the season. Other arms might also be ready come mid-season. Greg Allen is most likely starting the year in AAA Columbus. He completely jumped that level last season as rosters expanded. He needs a little finishing off especially since he missed 2 months last season in AA due to injury. You bring up a good point about questioning room form DSantana in the current OF. Unless a guy like Chisenhall is moved this off-season, there isn't room until 2019. So Domingo might not be the package target. As someone noted earlier, the bullpen is thin so the Indians might be after bullpen arms or players to help starting in 2019 (an effort to reload, not rebuild).. Yeah, this doesn't surprise me. I figured Merryweather may be the next guy in line. Looking over Cleveland's 10thish prospects none of the other players excite me much. And I can certainly see why Cleveland doesn't do it anyway.
  19. Yeah, I'd be happy with Joseph's trade. I would also substitute Julian Merryweather for Allen though. Not sure if that deal would fly for Cleveland. There doesn't seem to be room for Santana there. Brantley/Zimmer/Chisenhall/Allen seems OK.
  20. Arcia might turn into a good leadoff hitter at some point, but I've never understood the clamour during the season and offseason from some to have him leadoff. .324 OBP and 14(/21) SB doesn't exactly scream ideal leadoff hitter to me. Nor does the 89 OPS+. The leadoff hitter gets the most plate appearances, something like 120+ more than the #8 hitter over the course of the season. It should be one of your best hitters leading off. If not that, then OBP should be the priority above all else; it's the only time during a game where you know for sure the batting order in an innning, and know for sure who's leading off. Make the most of that by having him get on base. Anyway, I agree that Villar/Sogard will get the first crack at it. 2016 Villar and 2017 Sogard are both good leadoff options, but the other iterations of them aren't so let's see which one we get. Villar started one game at 2B in September and that was the finale that was meaningless. Walker started 14, Perez started 7, and Sogard started 6. Villar has an uphill battle just making the team even if Walker doesn't return because a Sogard/Perez platoon isn't a bad option. Sogard or Walker leads off vs. RHP. Against LHP, whoever is in CF, likely either Brinson or Cain will lead off. Yes, that is quite a terrible option, actually. If no one is signed to play 2b going forward we're going to have to hope that A. Villar reverts to 2016 form. B. Perez doesn't suck C. Sogard continues to overperform I don't like any of those options, but I'd definitely pick A for a few weeks at least.
  21. I'd take him on a 3/45 type deal in an instant. I'm guessing he gets the 4th year though. I'd still probably take him at 4/60. Trade 1 or 2 OFs for pitching prospects. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Adding quality talent for nothing always does.
  22. then it's probably a good thing that you're not aware that the brewers are currently carrying five catchers on the 40-man. Yeah I already posted to this effect but it disappeared.
