  1. http://brewersfandemonium...eply/660292#reply-660292 What's Bugging You. last post was 2897. i feel like there were three new posts in the thread from when i looked at it last.
  2. What's bugging you Post #2896 was the last post. default settings for me, i assume. (realized i forgot the link, sorry) this bug has only ever happened to me on huge threads like Random Thoughts.
  3. my brother is freak-show tall and liked his Volvo. fits ok in his Pontiac now, too. i'm very close to your height/build, and really have no problems in anything except for sports cars.
  4. there's just not enough superstars for each team in the NBA. i know Stern is blowing hot air, but contraction would be good for the NBA.
  5. i saw a lot of that show and didn't think i'd end up enjoying watching a telethon as much as i did. i got the biggest kick out of all the comedians just doing their thing. it's like they said "hey, just come and do four minutes on whatever. just give us anything at all to bid on."
  6. MA hasn't made millions of dollars in his lifetime by making irrational decisions like that would be.
  7. for the past few years we've all commented about Melvin's complete lack of blue-chip pitching talent in the farm system, and in 2009 and 2010 we saw how that lack of depth can hurt the ML club, either due to injury or in having to overspend on FA pitchers (not specifically a Wolf comment). but now it seems that as soon as we get that blue-chip depth in Rogers, Odorizzi and Jeffress, we're anxious to trade it all away. maybe i'm just playing devil's advocate, but if we make that kind of offer and actually land Greinke, aren't we just solving one problem by creating another? maybe the counter is to trade Fielder for a pitching prospect, but would this team truly get back to playoff contention by adding one star and subtracting another? obviously Gamel or McGehee aren't going to replicate Fielder's stats at 1b next year, but be maybe be 75% of the player that Fielder is. if we're so willing to accept that, couldn't we also accept that someone of Rogers or Jeffress or Rivas could possibly be 75% of the pitcher that Greinke would be?
  8. Greinke might very well not like Milwaukee, but if KC only gets joking offers from everyone else but Milwaukee, he'd be left with a choice of KC vs. Milwaukee if we make a good enough offer. he might very likely ok a trade here if his only other option is to stay in KC and lose another 90 games. if KC wants more ML-polished players, i would just as easily send them Weeks and cross my fingers with a Lawrie/Veteran platoon at 2b in Milwaukee next year (although that could be frightening defensively).
  9. wanted to answer a couple comments from the "What's Bugging You" thread since this thread is more appropriate here, and i don't want to hijack the other thread: Find a headhunter is that like a temp agency? i'm looking into them right now to find one who isn't IT or Engineering specific. Do you have any connections at all in your new community? vaguely. someone i haven't met forwarded my resume on to an HR person in Austin. i emailed him a simple hello when i finally got here, but he didn't email back. not sure how much more i'd be able to bug him or even what to say beyond what i have already. but i think i'll try another hello and mention a job i'd applied to that is STILL in the "review" stage but has my Wisconsin address on the application (i called and the City won't let me change it, but I mentioned my move in the cover letter). looking forward to a conference on the 19th. will chat up everyone i can and hopefully make some job contacts or non-aggressively pass out my resume during conversation.
  10. a win-win. congrats!
  11. i don't know if this thread might be a help to people or not. but i was just thinking of the handful of people on brewerfan like myself who have been looking for work for quite some time with no luck. with every job opening, an organization gets 200+ resumes, so more than ever, even getting an interview means having a contact who can help get your foot in the door. or maybe there's just a use for advice from someone in the industry. so considering the diversity and knowledge on this site, maybe people are open to getting PMd to offer help. i'm currently looking for Park and Recreation work (state or municipal, anywhere). i used to be an editor and would be happy to offer anything i might know about the industry. Thanks!
  12. Still no luck? Sorry to hear that. I know it's still kind of rough out there.yeah, though i know i'm certainly not the only one on bf having this problem. i'm even having trouble finding general minimum-wage work--i might be hitting up McDonalds soon, seriously. all these online applications that end up sitting in the "reviewing applications" stage for a month+. any suggestions on how to find a general part-time job? all the places like Dick's Sporting Goods and Fontana just send me back online. i check Craigslist, too. other suggestions? in a couple hours i'll be getting in the car and stopping at every place i'd be remotely qualified for. hope i don't get lost in this new city!
  13. Colby, you make a good point about Melvin maybe wanting to make a big splash in order to save his job. usually a GM doesn't get to hire as many managers as Melvin has and still have a lot of job security. if status quo means fielding a .500 team for another two years, i don't think Melvin would still be around to see things improve. i was trying to think of a counter argument for still trading Fielder if we traded for Grienke, but i can't think of one. it's not even about going for it next year, but because we'd be drained of top prospects to get Grienke, and we'd probably want Fielder around for either two draft picks or trade him for a handful of prospects if it doesn't work out in 2011. trade Fielder now and you'd have a pretty decent player in return, but we'd have no real minor-league depth left to cover an injury. If I was KC and Milwaukee offered me Rogers, Jeffress and Odorizzi, I'd take it in a New York minute. i wouldn't. Rogers and Jeffress i think need more time to get back on the ML prospect radar, and Odorizzi hasn't seen a AAA inning yet. for Grienke's remaining years at a great cost, he'll fetch two blue-chippers at least, and i don't think either of those three are quite there yet. i just think KC could get a much bigger haul from someone else.
  14. i don't think it's whining. the players that can get them are good enough to be able to demand them, and typically have played long enough that it's understandable they don't want to end up in a city they don't like or somewhere that's not a good fit for their family. Cliff Lee is obviously going to get a full no-trade clause on his next contract. i can definitely see why he'd be tired of getting moved around every year. and it's the GMs offering the clauses in the first place. the more i could get in a contract, the more i'd take, too.
  15. seriously, how hard is it to find a stupid part-time job already????
  16. when i was a kid there was a brand new baseball card shop that'd opened in Madison. i entered because my dad made me and won the grand prize, a complete 1977 Topps set. Gantner's rookie card! i think the only other time i've won something was ironically when i didn't want to win. i won a fancy-schmancy phone from a big-time company during a trade show. they held a simple free raffle for it in their hospitality suite after a trade show. we took their advertising money, so weren't really a client and would have preferred any prize go to one of them. but when the VP asks you to enter, you enter. then i had to lug the stupid thing around the rest of the night from party to party. sold the phone to a coworker.
  17. i was curious how many people would say the Yankees, but i'd definitely be fine playing for them because i'd be practically guaranteed a Championship if i was there for five years.
  18. a poster here mentioned Hart's limited no-trade clause with his new contract, which got me thinking: if you just signed with the Brewers and got a five-team no trade option, which five teams would you pick and why? i'll go: ChicagoNL--seemingly nasty clubhouse atmosphere and the whole "i'd be a Cub" thing. Baltimore--owner will have them committed to losing forever, and i don't want to play for a loser. i think Pittsburgh will win a division crown before Baltimore will. Philadelphia--seemingly the least forgiving and meanest fans in baseball. i wouldn't enjoy getting boo'ed by my own fans during an inevitable slump. Tampa Bay--no fans, terrible stadium and destined to move to a new city in the future. Phoenix--everything about it seems great, but i'm not sure i'd enjoy spending my summer in what is probably the hottest baseball city.
  19. seems to me like his trade value would be highest on a contract for just next year, when the trading team would be able to negotiate anything long-term. jericho, i think i know what you're talking about, that a player can't be traded within a few months of signing him. i'm not 100%, but i think because this is really an extension and a buyout of arbitration, that the rule you're talking about doesn't apply.
  20. seems like it comes down to whether you believe the best in people or not.
  21. i noticed the same thing. and when i went back to look at it a second time, it said 2008. spooky! danzig, i was similar to you. i had some recurring nightmares when i was a little kid of a monster attacking my mother. i think i woke up screaming for a week in a row. the parents ended up taking me to get sleep-tested, and it turns out i don't fall into the deepest realm of sleep. not fun for a little kid to have to stay up for 24 hours. it's funny, i still remember the dream vividly.
  22. what? no reunion with the girlfriend in Nashua???? i'm surprised. at the least, they brought a conclusion to it. although the show made me want to call an ex-girlfriend, so i didn't like the episode.
  23. to have as many followers as TH does, it doesn't sound too unbelievable to think that he had a hacker. plus, maybe his password was "password"
  24. searched for this old thread since i think it was mentioned in the Scary Movie thread. of course i end up reading it late at night:) Of course, I wanted to go check, but I had some sort of night "paralysis" and I could not move my body, but my brain seemed alert, and quite frightened. What was scary, was the paralysis part, that I couldn't move my body to help the girls. I have no doubt I was either partially or entirely dreaming the event..., but that was as scared and felt as helpless as I have ever been in my life. i've heard of this before, called "sleep paralysis." i think it has something to do with your brain waking up from sleep but your body not quite catching up. the "Old Hag" or "Someone was holding me down" ghost stories are common ones, and they're all because of this sleep paralysis. another common ghost-sighting is because of the "waking dream," where your eyes are open but still somewhat dreaming, so you end up layering a dream onto your real life bedroom, which is why people report seeing aliens or people staring at them from the foot of their bed. i had a roommate who once saw half of a skeleton walk across his room. i had a coworker who saw a clear-as-day face staring at him from a window as he was locking the building up at night. Art Bell has told me too many scary Ouija Board stories that i'll never use one.
  25. i wonder what might come of it if you called the phone manufacturer directly and told them about your issue. i know most places give you a general "too bad for you" attitude, but there are some companies out there who work hard to keep customers satisfied. obviously this isn't electronic stuff, but i routinely get free hiking gear from a simple phone call if what i was using doesn't have a reasonable lifespan.
