From what I hear, they don't focus much on it. Your tiny schools still will, but the bigger schools will focus most of their efforts on transfer-pool scouting and poaching players from those smaller schools. High school is like your AA league and the Middle Tennessee States of the world the AAA. You know, kinda like the Brewers are the AAA team of the Dodgers and the Yankees.

Holmgren, too. The new president doesn't change this, it's established Packers philosophy and not unique to the team. Go until it's painfully obvious. Ideally your GM has the security to make long-term moves instead of just win-now ones, and it's a desirable place for top HC candidates when you finally do have an opening. Ben Johnson didn't go to the Jets for good reason and it wasn't the quarterback. Maybe I'm wrong, but my guess is MlF gets his extension and sees more than just one more year. Granted, I was typing "I think Daboll stays" right as he was walking out the door, too. No reason 9 or 10 wins is some automatic job security. That's kinda baseline for the talent the team has had most of the season. There's "make bad teams good" coaches and there's "Win the big game" coaches, and MlF is in that first camp. Not a bad coach in the slightest, but a bad coach for this particular team.

The Giannis "will he or won't he" drama is quickly feeling like late-career Brett Favre. At some point I'll start hoping he gets traded just to be over it. Nor can any team play Finals-or-burst every season for 15 years without eventually losing all your draft picks and trading away every ounce of depth you have....oh wait. I would think the offseason would be a better time to finally bite the bullet with more teams seemingly in contention, draft orders getting flushed out and teams probably better able to navigate the luxury tax. Agreed it wouldn't be a worry about being lowballed. Not like other teams are unaware of what's going on, nor do you lowball for a clearcut HOF player still in his prime. Sadly the best trade for the Bucks would be to try and get some of their picks back. Interesting the "tear it all down" strategy isn't some sure thing. OKC does it and they get maybe the best single-season team to have ever played. Utah does it and they're 10-16. But hopefully you all hid some nuts away because we're bound for a loooooong dry spell.

Hafley is probably a HC somewhere next year. Do you boot MLF just for the sake of promoting Hafley and being able to keep him?

I got Hulu mostly to finally see the last couple seasons of What We Do In The Shadows. The last season probably didn't need to happen but the movie and the show were both great. Really terrific concept: Well what do vampires do when they're not killing people but just hanging out? Guess I'll see if Hulu carries DMV or just continue with the ___That Built America series.

Great recommendation. I'm now addicted to this guy's channel. It's great. I love learning the most efficient/effective way of cleaning stuff. I've since picked up one of those drill brushes to do the shower with (haven't tried it out yet) and may also try to clean my oven for the first time. Plus he doesn't really use bleach much at all, and that stuff makes me nervous now that I've seen how little of it you need to ruin clothes.

Hoping for a little rally with this QE (probably) starting soon, but am probably out shortly after that and will just have to eat my losses. This whole cycle has been just awful.

And wasn't Gary double-teamed about 22% of the time last year? Safe to figure he's not this year, so "as good as last year" doesn't cut it.

I never said it as a kid but have only recently started using it. Think I've latched onto it since it's somewhat-uniquely Wisconsin. Few years ago went back home and had a visit with an uncle who had a very northern-WI accent. Don't think I really noticed it until then and had already been living out of WI. Really liked the accent and was kinda sad I didn't have it.

My co-workers are giving me crap for pronouncing "milk" more like melk. They say I'm wrong but I tell them I come from the land of melk and therefore I'm the expert and I'm right. The harder i sound just seems off and weird and wrong, kinda like how you know someone isn't from Wisconsin if they pronounce the il in Milwaukee instead of with an uh.

But this is Green Bay, which means everyone will realize the coaching staff sucks but wait another four years to do anything about it.

My guess is he keeps his job next year. Dart is clearly the franchise guy and maybe you don't mess with that by bringing in another coach. Nabers alone changes that offense, and you get a big boost with a top WR/CB/S in the coming draft. Giants should be a good team next year.

For the first time in about forever, my aquarium is (basically) algae-free. Been feeding my fish way less (maybe not enough) and I suspect I was adding too much of that water de-chlorinator and that was contributing. Added a second filter and recently learned there's a correct way to stack filter media in a canister. Also added a few cups of water from a nearby stream to add some microscopic buggers.

I did the tape-delay on NFL+ last year and liked that, too. I often have to work Sundays and miss the game. And I live outside WI so I don't get people randomly saying "Too bad about Kraft" and such to spoil things. I used to have a "totally legal" stream which did the same thing but they got shut down. I'd pay for NFL+ if they ever returned to Packers-only live/tape options. Zero desire to watch any other game especially because the NFL youtube channel shows 15-minute highlights of every game shortly after they finish airing and I'd rather see those. But man, illegal streams were only slightly more inconvenient than what streaming services used to be, and that was enough people would pay $7 for. But tack on all this new nonsense and there's every reason to just go back to illegal streams again. I'd be tempted to pick up Hulu but $25/mo is just nuts. My only streaming service is Youtube Premium and any ad breaks elsewhere have become intolerable for me. I don't feel like I'm really missing out on anything from not seeing any modern TV shows. I have no idea what "Winter is coming" means but I still get by.

I thought for sure upgrading at Center and Guard and drafting a run-blocker in the 2nd was going to make the run game so much better. It doesn't really seem like Jacobs is worse so much as there's just no gaps to run through.

If you start making exceptions to their trade strategy it's not really a strategy anymore. We couldn't afford Fielder, Sabathia, Burnes, etc., etc. Welcome to small-market baseball. Thanks for being here on the cheap, now go make your money elsewhere. Already having a deep minor leagues isn't a luxury for us but a necessity. And if we're over-full on young SPs, why not include someone like Gasser or Henderson in the deal?

I appreciate the offer. I'd be able to make room indoors for some equipment. Even just an adjustable bench and some dumbbells is enough to hit every muscle group. But it was hard enough to get in the routine of lifting with my stuff right there under my carport, which I suspect would be even harder if it were right there in another room. What's most convenient is easiest to put off. Oddly enough I suspect a more cumbersome drive would actually make me more consistent.

Any salary floor agreement probably has to come with a guaranteed positive income stream for ownership, like getting a specific percentage of gate receipts. That way you have a motivation to put an exciting team on the field every year and not the need to keep a payroll low for the sake of additional profit. And if your star players are still low-paid, maybe there's room to shift money toward some other player-focused thing.

My work truck has Android Auto and I turned it off. The maps feature would be nice when I rarely need it, but I'm not much interested in adding a routine every time I start up the truck. Especially so as someone who has to stop-start-stop all day. Who are these designers who think we want to customize a driving experience for ourselves every time we start the vehicle instead of just get in and drive off? The truck (F150) also has that idle shut-off feature which is fine, except you can't permanently turn it off. Instead it's another thing you have to manually turn off every time I start up the truck. Whenever I stop to talk to people and the truck turns back on to idle I feel like I'm being so rude, like I'm starting it up in order to end the conversation. It also bugs me that when a new popup commercial appears here that it throws your cursor out of the text box and you have to click back on it to keep typing. Maybe there's a call for a Toyota 2.0 car company. Give us something ugly, ultra-reliable and cheap. No more designed obsolescence, no more electronic gadetry making repairs expensive, no heated seats and do-dads, heck even bring back crank windows. Let me hit 200,000 miles without having had to rebuild the engine part by part to get there. Make only three models: A sedan, a mildly nicer coupe and a truck. No more of the 50 different models of vehicle to choose from. And every year it's not some huge re-design, but simply making more reliable the one thing most often reported to break. A car that says "I'm tired, I drink gas station coffee and I'm just trying to get to work."

At work I'm pretty spoiled. I don't have anywhere near the number of law enforcement issues others do, nor the crowds of people, nor the need to do multiple educational programs every day (I'm good at them but it's exhausting) and the biggest negative is boredom, which I recognize is a pretty good negative to have. At home everything is about 45 minutes away, I don't enjoy my church but I'm out of options on that, and I live alone but can only get 1.5mb internet speed. I simultaneously want to transfer to work in an area with more going on, but also don't want to leave and make my worklife much more stressful. Since I have about ten years to retirement and likely will go back to Wisconsin, right now I figure it's better to stay.
