  1. I went to Gdansk and Lithuania last year. Gdansk I think would be good for slightly older kids with the shipbuilding and all the WWII history. Outer banks of Lithuania is pretty and reminiscent of Wisconsin but with just a bit more ocean. Lots of nature-stuff there. Not entirely sure what kids would do in Vilnius, though I also never looked that up. edit: Gdansk has a terrific museum on the Polish Resistance and memorial to the shipbuilders killed by the Soviets. I didn't have a chance to see the spot where the Germans first started WWII, but there's a sailed ship museum there, as well, which looked really interesting. Also an outdoor opera house tucked into the woods. Lituania's outer banks was a Viking settlement and a tourist spot for biking and enjoying the nature reserve there. Vilnius is such a beautiful city. Museum of Occupation was very good and there's an Illusions museum I'd guess the kids would like but I didn't see. Oh, also near Gdansk is the largest castle in Europe, though I most enjoyed sitting near it and just looking at it with some food and beer in my hands.
  2. And doesn't Brown only have two more years left on his contract? Wouldn't make any sense to hold onto him. Plus once they get Brown I'm presuming they'd no longer be burdened with that 1:1 tax apron trading rule and more picks could come from him than they could with Giannis. If Herro/Brown are next-traded, could we expect the Bucks to start trading for some bad contracts and getting picks with that, too? I wonder if a secondary benefit from all of this is that Ryan Rollins will be asked to take way more shots and we'll get to see just where his ceiling is. I didn't see enough games last year, so I'm not sure how to think of him. Is he a possible future star or more like a "Military 8" because of the lack of talent around him?
  3. Yesterday I got home and looked up the long highlights of the US-Aus match. We won 2-0 so I was of course happy and excited. Only after I watched did I notice that the video was from a couple years ago, so I queued up the recent one and got to watch that, too. It was like getting to watch the Packers win different playoff games twice in the same day.
  4. I wouldn't eat it, but I can see it. Cranberries in sauerkraut is kind of a Russian thing, so raisins in coleslaw seems like a natural transition. But people put fruit in regular salad, which seems like basically the same thing and equally off-putting.
  5. I'm largely just addicted to all the "people discover America" videos. Just awesome. Saw a Korean guy in Mexico waiving around a Mexican flag and getting mobbed by everyone who also put a sombrero on him and everyone with the biggest smiles having an amazing time. No, obviously not the US, but whatever. I hear the US is a really good team. Not my sport but it's always still worth watching.
  6. This is awesome! Good for him securing a rich future and good for us securing a long-term star defensive CF. Kinda cancels out our reason to keep Perkins around as a defensive sub. Hard to see Frelick leaving so shortly after, especially with Lockridge still out. But I won't hold my breath for him next season.
  7. I'm never much for trading prospects, but I could see a need to trade prospect depth for other prospects. I'd go for trading Jett for a catching prospect like Briceno or a SP prospect.
  8. Says a lot about our coaches, too. Maybe it's a specific type of player they're better able to tweak, but they've been very good for a lot of years at improving performance. 4/$58 is my guess at his next contract if it's with somebody else. Nice plus a guy who can play two positions. I assume his LF defense gets better with more reps.
  9. Oh, you're right:) Me fail English? That's unpossible!
  10. Isn't there another week to go before Super 2 status kicks in? Certainly a team with budget constraints is going to make sure to squeeze out that extra year of arbitration out of a player. I just wish Yelich could play 1b to make Bauers in LF a little more common. We give up a decent amount of defense with Chourio in CF, but the lack of offense is getting to be a real problem. Really no reason we should be losing 1-0 games against a middling SP. Maybe at some point you have to say that at the worst you'll get the same offense out of Lara (or Pratt or Jett) than you're getting right now out of Frelick/Perkins/Rengifo/Ortiz that it becomes something of a no-loss situation to call them up.
  11. Dude what a terrific article! I've been as anxious as everybody else to see our big-time prospects and have been wondering just how close they are. It almost sounds like they're pressing a little bit knowing they're a step away.
  12. I still like it from the Browns perspective, particularly with the possibility they get in a bidding war with the Jets to get the #1 next year.
  13. People gonna get rekt on the SpaceX IPO which I hear is on the 12th. I guess there's not much early-investor money that has a lockup period at all. Plus I'm kinda expecting a lot of money will move into that and the rest of the market will have a pretty rough day.
  14. Sure, but on the flip side the NBA can better ensure the Knicks get to draft Patrick Ewing and not some low-ratings team.
  15. Yuck! That would of course put them in the exact same position they're in now. Actually worse, since you wouldn't be getting proportional talent back. Maybe their ambitions changed, since I'd read that when Cleveland called, the Bucks asked for Mobley and all their available picks. I guess I'll root for Orlando since Jonathan Isaac is my favorite non-Buck (Middleton doesn't count).
  16. Oh man it's feeling a lot like December 15th. So close but you gotta have just a little more patience!
  17. That's a clever thought. Though that's a lot of bench time for Ortiz/Hamilton, particularly when neither can be much relied on as a pinch hitter. Sure a lot thinner in the OF than they like, but maybe give Bauers near full-time status in the corner which would also reduce Mitchell/Frelick ABs with them sharing time at CF. Both would be fine with me.
  18. I don't really understand how all the prospects would fit defensively. Isn't Pratt a little too big for SS and then it would be Made's to lose going forward? Do you pencil in Pratt-Made-Pena-Fischer at 3b-SS-2b-1b and Jett is kinda the super-util guy? To me it seems in infield is actually too deep prospect-wise and it all lines itself up nicely for a prospect-prospect trade of something like Pena+Gasser for a higher-end SP prospect to fill in those areas we're kind of thin at.
  19. A lady in my brother's family is a retired fund manager and she got out of the market entirely a couple days ago. But of course everyone takes their guesses, granted she's made millions guessing correctly. Though at least maybe selling some tech stuff and buying more eggs and breakfast cereal could be a good hedge against a turn.
  20. Well, and certainly players around the League pay attention to that sorta stuff, too. It's not like players are super eager to play in the cold of Green Bay, so especially when it comes to upcoming camp-cut FAs, here's an organization which'll pay you your million-dollar bonus even if it was pretty sure you wouldn't make the team.
  21. There's also getting more of a true PG which the Bucks need whether Giannis is here or not.
  22. He's said he loves Milwaukee and that he wants to pay for a contender. Nothing wrong with that. Ownership doesn't want to be the villains in booting Milwaukee's favorite player, so their out is "He didn't sign an extension so he had to go." And Giannis doesn't want to burn his bridge here, so he can say "I wanted to stay but they traded me." This is all just establishing the best possible PR for the inevitable trade. Sure would've loved to see him play his whole career in Milwaukee, but it makes sense as it is.
  23. Some training competition would have made the most sense. Maybe he was mad about the pick and said something. But yeah, they've really been bungling the kicker situation for a good while now.
  24. All else being equal, wouldn't Jett get first priority since there's room to play him across the infield? Wouldn't you hold Pratt back a little until you know he'd be able to get consistent time specifically at SS? Or is it wrong to assume that among the three that he's the top choice for SS? Or better to call up the guy on contract and hold Jett back a while to get Super 2 status?
  25. I'm the same with Miz and I've been really happy. I figured he'd strike out 15 in 6 innings one outing and then give up 6 runs in the first inning the next. He's been way more consistent so far than I figured he would be. Sanchez has to be an overperform for as good as he's been against lefties so far. Last year he was somehow worse against L than R, so for him to be hitting well and adding 1b and DH duties is a big overperform. I expected a down year from Frelick, but yikes. But let's go ahead and mark Chourio up as "expected" since he's great and I see no reason he can't carry his current numbers through the rest of the season.
