  1. What I'd prefer to see is the NFL and NFLPA sit down and put together a set list of penalties depending on the severity of the crime. Not based on the specific incident, but based on the class of felony or misdemeanor the player or executive is eventually guilty of. Maybe even a penalty for just being charged with something, too. No more public complaints because the punishment will be right there in the rules.
  2. My job is going to be a rotating shift, so that means missing Packer games and not always listening to the Brewers. This may well be the year I finally give in and get an iPhone to sign up for the radio broadcasts to listen to them in the work truck. Also finally buying a television just so I can tivo Packer games. I can probably record an online subscription, but there's probably no real way of not accidentally seeing the scores before I upload the game video.
  3. I wonder how many more years Bo will want to coach.
  4. boy, so many "I miss that guy!" thoughts from every single comment. Such a nice thing about this site is getting to somewhat know a lot of the posters on here, that it's not always the anonymity that you get everywhere else. Someone recently remembered that I'd hiked the Appalachian Trail, but I hadn't posted about that in a year--this site has a great way of making a person feel special that you don't otherwise get online. I'd also gotten some encouraging PMs from a few of our long-lost posters which truly lifted my spirits at the time. You guys are the best. I recently watched Nigel Hayes' video where he visited the UW library and when he talked to one of the librarians I kept thinking "Huh, I wonder if that's Hawing."
  5. if I don't have to leave until 10:00, think I'll be able to watch the whole game? Maybe catch the last bit on the radio on the drive there? Assuming it's on the radio that's probably how I'll go. I've become the only one in the family who watches sports. I've found non-sports watchers never understand the importance of an event. It's useless to argue.
  6. I'm supposed to pick someone up at the airport tonight (leave no later than 10:00). It looks like that would mean missing the last quarter of the game. I don't know if it would be rude or not, but I'm thinking of paying to have them take a cab home. Of course all the non-sports people are telling me to record it, but I think we all know that's just not really an option. ------ I'm certainly not as nervous about Duke as I was with Kentucky. We didn't double Townes so I'm sure we won't double Okafor. They dominated us in Madison, but we basically didn't have Dekker at the time and that's a pretty big difference. But Duke's defense has been unbelievable during the tournament.
  7. Brewcrewdue80, prayers for a quick and complete recovery. I promise Paul O'Neill will hit two home runs for you in tomorrow's game.
  8. Driving that WeedMan truck around all day, I got some version of that joke daily. I had people taking pictures of my truck and even honking to stop me in the middle of the road. Man that was a difficult job, but I was proud of myself that I made it through a year when people half my age couldn't hack it. Also proud to say I never cheated a customer out of good service.
  9. There's a WeedMan Lawn Care in Milwaukee that will be starting up the season probably next week. They always need people, and even if they say they're full, one or two people will be getting fired or quitting within a week. I worked at a different branch one summer. The season goes to early November, you work 5-6 days per week and days are 9-11 hours per day. It's a difficult job, but I made roughly $25K doing that for a season. Plus you end up getting close to the maximum allowance in unemployment after the season, which was another $4500 for me. I know this isn't exactly the thread for it, but there's your summer job. ------------------ My clutch gave out in the middle of a long trip home. Even minor hills were almost impossible to accelerate up, so it's totally undriveable. It's parked in the airport in Kentucky. Fortunately I have $8K to spend without having to get a loan, so looking at spending $6K on the car with $2K of room for immediate repairs like timing belt and whatnot. aiming for boring and reliable this time. I learned my lesson last time not to get a 6-speed with a manifold that covers the engine (automatic hour+ shop charge for any repair done, even plugs) and also never to buy a first-year model.
  10. My niece's grandfather is attempting to sway her fandom by sending Alabama-related baby clothes. I will have to rectify this with Brewers and Packers baby stuff. My brother is also a traitor and has switched his fandom to the Rockies, so it will be an uphill battle.
  11. ok, an old thread. But I just upgraded my internet radio which allows me to listen to podcasts when I go to bed. I don't have the patience (or the iphone) to listen otherwise, so this is great. Unfortunately every podcast from Baseball Prospectus won't load, so I'll have to check out some of the ones mentioned. The Moth Radio Hour--Ordinary people telling stories about their lives. Some good, some bad, but overall a relaxing listen. Andy Daly Podcast Project (NSFW)--Probably my favorite comedy show. Each episode is a different absurd character introducing his new podcast. How Did This Get Made--hosts talk about a bad movie they just saw. Listeners seeing the movie is not a requirement. Norm MacDonald--poor audio on it, but Norm just talks shop with different celebrity guests. Planet Money--Don't think it's been mentioned yet. A fun show on finance. Useless Information Podcast--short historical stories Reason--podcast from Reason Magazine Hope's Reason, Reasonable Faith and I Didn't Know That--Christian apologetic podcasts Daygame and Art of Charm--podcasts for the single, searching guy Breaking Madden--The host does odd things with Madden Football, like inserting Mark Sanchez at QB to historical teams and trying to find one that could win the SB with him as QB, or using a team made with 53 Tom Bradys. But I'm always on the lookout for more good comedy podcasts that are more than 30 minutes long.
  12. $150,000 gift bags and here I am eating hot dogs like a schmuck.
  13. Cripes that's the fourth different version of the trade I've read in the past ten minutes.
  14. my bad, Ennis is going to Philadelphia.
  15. Brandon Knight to Phoenix????? Wojnarowski is reporting it right now. edit: Apparently for Carter-Williams and Ennis.
  16. "I actually think Utah might have interest in Ersan." I just read a few sources saying the Bucks are talking to Utah where we send Ersan + 1st Round for Enis Kanter. Kanter will be a RFA after the season and it sounds like he'll be commanding about what Sanders was making per year.
  17. The Johnny Karate Show makes me think about Michael Richards' show from UHF. It's time to drink from the fire hose!
  18. If Sanders and the Bucks agreed to a buy-out, there wouldn't have to be any decrease in the contract money owed to Sanders. He would get paid like normal for the rest of this season unless he signs somewhere else (Right of Set-Off). Past that, the rest of Sanders' $33 million owed can be stretched for twice the number of contract years remaining plus one (Stretch Provision). Unless the Bucks wanted to absorb it all right now, they could instead pay about $4.5 million against the cap every year until 2022.
  19. Adding another player isn't going to get us closer to the Finals, so why bother trading assets we could otherwise use to further build in the offseason?
  20. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25065619/video-charles-barkley-declares-war-on-math-with-rant-against-analytics not Bucks related, but recently Charles Barkley went off on how stupid analytics are, specifically directed at the Rockets GM. Particularly insulting comment that analytics is just for the untalented to be able to participate in the game. I'm all for it in baseball and think it's vital to finding good players. But I don't know how indispensable it necessarily is in basketball because you have fewer players and a smaller talent pool. The Rockets GM is big on it but I think Harden and Howard and Lin weren't so much picked up because of analytics but because they were the best players available. If you have a fast team I get that Anthony Mason would be a bad pickup, but how much do you really need analytics to see that?
  21. two roommates, a girl and a guy, and they're a couple. One yelled, but being a couple they speak for the pair. I was home all day and they were working. When they got home I was already in the kitchen making my dinner (about 6:30). The guy said he was very mad that I was using the kitchen when they got home and that I should have been cooking when they were gone (I was making pizza dough). He said I do this all the time. I'll add that I don't cook every day and they frequently eat takeout, so I'm not sure what "all the time" necessarily means. I don't think 6:30 is an everyday schedule for them but I also don't pay attention. They don't have M-F 9-5 jobs. He insinuated I peer through the window for them to get home and then race in the kitchen. I told him he was more than welcome to be in the kitchen with me and that I could move whatever was necessary. He swore again, I told him that my appetite won't revolve around their schedule and if they didn't like it they can find a new roommate. He swore again so I gave my 30-day notice. I don't know the degree of right or wrong in this particular instance and a complaint had never been brought up to me before. I recognized it as control and that I couldn't keep capitulating. I can use very little kitchen space and can only have two drawers to their 12. I must maintain a spotless kitchen but they leave big piles of dishes out for about a week at a time. I'll likely need a couple weeks at an extended stay motel, but I should be able to afford it.
  22. I was recently yelled at by a roommate because I was using the kitchen to make dinner when they got home.
  23. It'll be nice having real health insurance for the first time in many years. I'm in my late 30s but still have my appendix and tonsils, so I've been scared of needing surgery on either and having to pay for them out of pocket.
  24. If you look through the game logs Giannis tends to take just 5-8 shots per game. It's just been that for the past few he's taking a lot more. Against Houston he took the most shots of anyone. Taking 5 shots in a game and I'd agree, that's more role player. I don't know if this is a conscious thing or what, but it's been great to watch him take that many more shots. And his longer jumper has been landing, which he's been working on and has got to be a huge confidence boost. edit: just read an article that the Maverick's GM wanted to draft Giannis ahead of Milwaukee, but Cuban nixed the idea in order to trade down and get a cheaper player so that they would have extra money to make a run at Dwight Howard. And the Hawks tried to trade into the top-15 to get him but weren't able to. phew!
  25. Go figure. So I just accepted a conditional offer to a law enforcement Park Ranger position. It'll take 4-6 weeks of paperwork and background investigation and then Police Academy (which I assume is exactly like the movie) before the "conditional" goes away. I can't pretend I've been a choir boy, but I've admitted my worst crime to an officer I work with and he said "You should be ok." Downsides to this job like any other, but I considered my next-best option was being almost 40 years old and selling tickets to take boats on a lake. Anyway, you've all been patient with my whining over the years, a couple of you in particular. So thanks for putting up with me.
