  1. That film was terrific. Thank you for posting that.
  2. The pay system is theoretically balanced already. I'll support a system where great pre-arby players like DeGrom gets lots of money if veterans' contracts can become non-guaranteed and we can release the Jeffrey Hammonds of the world. Similarly, I'll support a salary increase for minor leaguers if most of the huge signing bonuses we currently give to top draft picks is used to do so. Last year Trent Clark was given $2.7m to sign, Kirby got $1.25 and Ponce got $1.1. Spread that over six levels of the minors and that's about another $34k per player.
  3. 70 degrees and sunny but I'm sick. I blame jerichoholicninja somehow, he's sick so much I bet it's coming through the computer.
  4. I've moved around a lot in my adult life, so I've made a lot of friends and met girls and then up and left. I'm sticking around here for a good while, but the nearest decent town is 45 minutes away. I guess I'll just have to make a lot of long trips even if I'm just grabbing lunch.
  5. I don't see why a rebuilding team necessarily would be hamstrung by a salary floor. There's probably a good few players who would take a 1-2 year contract, or like the NBA where you agree to pick up the expiring contract of a bad player for some prospects.
  6. Many of us here are fortunate enough to have seen the Brewers in the AL and now the NL. So having followed a team in both leagues, I WAY prefer the pitchers hitting. There's a ton of strategy involved with it; who to pinch hit but lose that defensive replacement; taking out a doing-well starter when you're down a run; how to manage the bullpen.....not to mention games are long enough as they are and a DH is only going to extend them. And all that second-guessing of a manager's strategy is half the fun of watching a game, beyond just hoping a pitcher gets a strike or a batter gets a hit.
  7. I'd rather play Washington on the road than Seattle at home. Regardless of next week, drafting a MLB would mean Matthews could move all over the box, which would make that defense unbeatable. Otherwise get Jordy back next year and some O-line help (rumor is Joe Thomas is ready to move out of Cleveland) and there's no reason the team isn't back to SB shape next year. There's no reason this season can't just be called a fluke. Brewers may stink, but we're going to get to see their two biggest prospects play at some point next season, adding in some fun with the eventual Lucroy trade. And next year will be an awesome season to catch some Single-A games.
  8. Glad I drove out of Wisconsin when I did. I only had rain through Indianapolis. A cousin left two days later and got stuck in Illinois somewhere.
  9. What is it with MCW? In big games he tends to always step up, but he just doesn't have it on a nightly basis. Just when people start thinking he's not the answer and he gets benched for Mayo, he comes back to life and shows that he really could be the key piece to this team. I was watching a GS feed of the game last night and their announcers said the same thing. "If the Bucks can play like this, why are they below .500?" Bucks still need a shooter on the team, maybe somebody who can rotate in and out with Mayo and Middleton, and it'll be interesting what we can get in a trade of Mayo. I've also heard of the Bucks drafting a big man who could fill in behind Monroe and provide a bigger presence than Henson can.
  10. Stearns probably came here with a long list of guys he thinks are way better than their numbers suggest; high-potential guys he could get for cheap. Maybe Broxton was one of those guys. Who cares if we end up signing Alvarez? We're a 90-loss team that isn't going to be signing FA superstars yet, so it's not like Alvarez really represents any downgrade from somebody else we would have gotten. This trade only reinforces the notion that the MLB team is second priority to building MiLB strength, and ultimately that's what most of us wanted.
  11. It's too bad everything I've been reading makes excuses for the Warriors, especially that they played an OT game the night before. Sure it wasn't OT, but the Bucks played the night before, too. Face it, they just didn't shoot well and got beat by that night's better team. MCW was +22 on the night. Kinda looks like he's found a permanent and productive role off the bench.
  12. I passed my four-month training program! Glad to be over and back to work.
  13. We have passed ridiculous and are now onto humorous.
  14. Related to my last "Bugging You" post, I passed the physical/obstacle course of Police Academy on my second and final try. On my practice run a month ago I did a 5:37 on a 6:00 limit, so for my first 'for-real' attempt last week I started off as fast as I could, got completely winded and did a 6:30. My final attempt a couple days ago I just went at a moderate pace, especially on the stepper (which really gets the heart beating if you race it). I kept my pace down despite being told to go faster. Near the end I glanced up at a classmate, who'd promised to give me a head's up when I got to the 5:00 mark. He gave me a "not even close" look, and I ran the thing in 4:53. Yay!!! Friday is the cumulative test we take on the computer. Certainly a a few things I don't know that well, but all in all I'm pretty confident I'll do well.
  15. Way to go Young Guns!
  16. Better to hit a deer than a tree. Plus a lot of people hit their brakes when they swerve and that will only result in losing control of the vehicle.
  17. well, didn't pass that physical test today. I sprinted the shorter runs, had all of three pushups and some easy-enough rolls to go. Just three pushups to go, I quivered my way through two of them, and that very last one, only ONE to go, and the muscles completely gave out. I ate gym floor a bunch of times and probably took 30 seconds to do just that one. In the practice test six weeks ago I didn't set any speed records but I passed it by 30 seconds, all while speed-walking the thing. This time I was sprinting it. I think by doing that I completely sucked all the oxygen out of my muscles and therefore hit failure. So a minute slower this time, plus I could barely stand up afterward. But last time I passed and barely cracked a sweat. 5:59 is passing and no worse than 3:59. So I try again in a couple weeks. And you can bet I'm going to speed-walk it again. I really think that's what did it. Though the "I failed" phone calls have stunk, especially having to make one to the boss, I won't let myself get down about this and will do just fine on my final attempt.
  18. I couldn't find the ZMX but I got some other testosterone booster. It's probably all psychosomatic, but I'll take that, too. I'm doing 150-200 total every other day unless I stop because the shoulder twinges. Looks like if I don't pass the first time I would re-test in about two weeks. After four months of this it's been nice to hear a couple people ask "Have you lost weight?" yet I haven't lost a pound.
  19. Thanks. Just a couple weeks to go. The pain is gone. I'm maybe 80% full strength at this point and am doing full-body-weight pushups almost every day (gotta rest it some). Daily B12 and Vitamin C. Sometimes creatine. It's gonna be close. I'm weak to begin with. The last practice run I slow-jogged through it and then did 10-5-5 on the pushup sets, but they were bad-form pushups that won't count in the real thing. Passed the practice run with 20 seconds to spare. This time I'll probably end up doing 6-4-2-2-2... for the first set and then 4-3-2-2... for the second. Going full-speed should give me an additional 45 seconds, so I'm hoping that balances out with the slower pushups. Worst-case is I lose my job and house, go through this for an additional four months and then wait on another opening. But I need to have more confidence, so I'm gonna just pass it the first time.
  20. yeah, I still like MCW because he has every ability to be exactly what we need in a PG. But last season he really looked like he wanted to be the shooter on the team and that's the opposite of what he needs to be. He really has to drop that mentality and become pass-first. But it's not all him. My opinion, anyway, was a lot of the other guys, Giannis especially, hung out and took their opportunities when they fell to them. I really want to see Giannis and Jabari demand the ball and be aggressive on offense, to the point of being a little selfish. Everything about this team revolves around them and their desire to be the center of this offense. Even Middleton, as good as he is, is made to be that kick-out shooter when Giannis and Jabari don't have a closer shot. Last year Giannis made Player of the Week. I'd looked at his numbers and he took twice as many shots that week as he usually does. We've got exactly the players we need and a great system, but everyone needs to fill the role they were brought in to play and not try to be something else.
  21. Sprained my shoulder really badly about 1.5 weeks ago. It doesn't hurt anymore but I've lost a lot of strength. I have to do two sets of 20 pushups soon and be able to do them quickly. I wasn't able to do them well in the first place. I have a LOT riding on it.
  22. That's really awesome to hear Brewcrewdue80! Prayers for your continued health!
  23. I can't add anything to the thread, but especially for someone who's been searching for so long, I hope you wind up with everything you've been hoping for. Wishing you the best.
  24. My phone was supposedly supposed to last many days on standby without needing a charge. Though I barely ever use it, it loses 50% of its power every day. What the heck?
  25. Well, I start Police Academy tomorrow. The usual joke I tell people is "I expect it'll be just like the movie." Little nervous, as I guess anyone would be when they'll get fired from their job if they don't pass. I'm expecting to get my rear end handed to me every day in physical training, as I'm weak and slightly doughy.
