  1. If Fangraphs did it they could just generate a computer model and declare AL the winner.
  2. His last three starts have been 51, 54, and 49 pitches. He hasn't pitched more than 4 innings per outing since April, so I'm not sure if he's in a piggyback situation with another starter. People talk about how Peralta is small, so not much of a track record of that type of pitcher being really effective as a starter long term. Yet he has been. But nobody talks about the track record of pitchers who don't have massive k rates in the minors. Ortiz does not miss bats, this year his k rate is a little over 9 but we'll see how that ends up- it was even lower than that last year.
  3. That's the thing. Not all fans and players believe the ASG is for the players who have had the best half-season.
  4. So the last few days Peralta was untouchable as a trade piece. If anyone disagreed with that, I don't remember anyone saying it (maybe one person, idk.) Then he has a somewhat tough outing last night and post after post says yea, go ahead and deal him. Really? He got through 3 innings of no-hit ball. Threw a lot of pitches to do so? Sure. Then in the 4th, a ball is hit to RCF when Cain was shaded way to LCF. Just bad luck, Cain still almost caught it. Then he really got squeezed by the ump and ran out of gas after having to throw about 90 pitches in the 4th. Point being, things could have easily been different in the 4th, and he goes on to put up 6 solid innings again. Since that didn't happen, now he's not as valuable as Woodruff or Ortiz. Well, my opinion hasn't changed. His delivery and stuff make him a really good SP today, and as he matures will be even better. Has he out up 7 inning starts with only 1 or 2 runs every outing? No. Neither has anyone else in this rotation. I'm not giving him up for a rental when we can have a rotation of Hader, Peralta, Burnes at the top with guys like Brown, Ortiz, Woodruff, etc. in the mix if they're still here.
  5. They are talking to every team about potential players who are available. It's just a matter of what leaks, how it's twisted, etc.
  6. They wouldn't. But I guess it's how "prospect" is defined. Taylor Williams, for example, isn't technically a prospect but he does have 6 years of control- so basically the same thing. In fact, even better from the Giants point of view since he's more proven than prospects who haven't made it to MLB yet.
  7. It would be great if Milwaukee had media who followed the team. Maybe a newspaper, radio station, or TV stations? If we had something like that, they could be asking these questions about Peralta. Edit: Nevermind, foolish thinking. Even if we had media that followed the team, they would probably stick to questions like "That was a nice win wasn't it Craig?"
  8. Problem with that is Peralta can be wild for an inning, not sure I want him coming out of the pen. He's best working 5-6 innings at a time where he can comfortable and get on a roll.
  9. Yea, the East is beginning to feel like Back to the Future where Boston and Philly are the teams to beat and the Bucks can never get over that hump. Hope history doesn't repeat itself.
  10. I just don't see it, and I don't see a 6 man rotation either. Both have merit, and I get the arguments for both. But I don't think they want to jerk around with Burnes in the middle of a pennant chase, or Peralta to a lesser degree. Burnes had been starting, now bullpen, then ramp him up as starter again? It can be done, but probably not worth the exercise. 6 man rotation would mean getting 6 guys out of their comfort zone. Doesn't sound like much, but starting pitchers get very uncomfortable when their routine is messed with. Not to mention you would be losing another spot in the bullpen. Mostly though, they're going to struggle filling 5 spots in the rotation let alone 6. Shutting Peralta down early isn't a good idea either. I want him pitching in September/ October. We're assuming his limit would be around 150 innings, but we don't know that. If he stays in the rotation all year though, that's at least another 15 starts not even counting the playoffs. So even if you limit his starts to 5 innings he's close to 170 innings by the end of the regular season. Add in playoffs, and he's close to 200. No bueno. So what's the answer? I guess I would split the difference and have him miss at least a couple starts, maybe limit his innings in games where they have the full BP available. He'll still likely go over 150, but maybe if it's more like 170 they can live with that.
  11. There's no question Segura will win the AL spot due to Brewers fans voting for Aguilar, but good for him because he deserves it anyhow.
  12. Because it's baseball? It's not just baseball. Their hits are not ones that are just out of the reach of our infielders. The Marlins are literally hitting them where thay aint, whereas their fielders barely have to move to field our grounders. Are you serious right now?
  13. He was the #5 prospect in our last poll, so I wouldn't say he isn't getting the love. There's just not much conversation about him because he's on and off the DL, and most of his outings this year have been pretty uneventful. Not bad, not great...just kind of meh for a guy who's supposed to be the #5 prospect. Yes, at his age he has a higher ceiling than most of the pitchers being discussed. It's just that I can live with letting him go vs Burnes, and especially Peralta. At least everyone has come around on him, he used be thrown out there all the time in trade packages around here.
  14. We discussed this in other threads, but with the relief pitchers appearances are probably more relevant than innings pitched. Three outings of 2 innings each is better than 6 outings of 1 inning each, as a quick example. But yes, it is a concern for me- especially Peralta. The last two times the Brewers made the playoffs they had at least one top pitcher who was out of gas in October, and I don't want to see that again. It's a fine line, because you have to get there first. That said, they don't necessarily need someone from outside the organization as you said. Davies may be back, Woodruff is still around for now, and a few guys capable of a spot start. For the pen, there's even more options. But hey, if the deal is right no problem trading for an arm.
  15. Yea, I'm not that excited about making a deal for a rental, but to add that bat for Phillips/Ortiz? I'm ok with that. But since he's only a rental, every week that goes by makes a difference. Maybe throw in Segovia or someone like that if they make a deal this week, otherwise any 3rd player is off the table. Maybe that's too movie-ish, but sure would be nice to get 3 more weeks out of a rental player.
  16. *edited* I was going to mention earlier how for the most part we have been more calm and reasoned this time around. I hope it stays that way! No need to overreact to every rumor, there will be plenty more.
  17. If you don't swing the bat but the ball hits it, it's still a foul ball. I'm pretty sure Rock is correct about this. Hands are part of the bat, Rock is correct. If you don't swing, and ball hits your hands, it's a foul ball. Sorry, but that is wrong.
  18. Textbook case of winning the Marlin way. I bet attendance goes up to 17 tomorrow.
  19. Way to go CC, why did you dial up the strikeout then dp in that situation!!!
  20. That would also be CC fault. If William's have up a hit there? You guessed it, CC fault.
  21. Brewers could put up 20, he'll still be on. One and done so he could pitch tomorrow and give the last two to someone not named Knebel! Oh I know, yes getting at least an inning no matter what. Edit...this just in. Nottingham > Kratz + Susac + Bandy
  22. Watch the Brewers puf up 7 this inning to keep Hader from pitching again.
