  1. Given the year he had I find it highly unlikely nobody offered anything. It’s think it’s far more likely teams did offer something but it wasn’t what Stearns wanted. And yes, you could argue that if the return wasn’t what he wanted it made sense to hold onto him. But there is risk in that is there not? We risk him having a bad year or getting hurt and all of a sudden whatever value he had is gone, which is exactly what happened. Stearns gambled by hanging onto him and so far it looks like he lost. I’m not sure why we can’t call that a mistake. Is it possible that four years from now that it will turn out ok? Sure. But perhaps we can revisit that argument in four years because all we have to go on is what has happened so far. Sure, there's a risk in every decision made on a player. But if the return was very small, no, I don't think it was a mistake. Likely it was a very low level prospect or two, so that would really be a no-brainer to hold onto him. I guess I don't look at most moves as binary- either a great move or a mistake. For example, bringing Jeffress back wasn't a great move IMHO, it was worth giving it a shot and it worked out. Just as bringing back Yo didn't work, and he got cut. Stearns isn't perfect, no GM is perfect. But not trading Santana isn't a check in the mistake column for me. It's only you and me, and we just disagree. ; )
  2. With CC, there's more to it than wins and losses. Stearns will take into account whether the team is behind him, if he's lost them, if he feels he's the right guy to take the next step, etc. Does he refuse to play a guy Stearns wants on the field? Is he not using the bullpen the way Stearns wants? Just examples, but lots of behind the scenes stuff goes into it.
  3. How do you know that? What if nobody offered anything for him? More likely, the return was very minimal. If that was the case it wasn't a missed opportunity, it made sense to hold onto him. Still does.
  4. They need both back, agreed. Arcia yes, Santana no, at least not yet. Not until he shows more power and consistency at the plate. He doesn't have the "good defender" cushion to fall back on. Agree. Thames is back and I imagine will play most of the time in RF vs RHP, Braun will start vs LHP. If either of them really struggle, Santana can be called up. Of course, reverse is true also. If Santana is just killing it for a couple weeks they'll bring his bat up and find a place for him. They really need RF to produce more offense. I would bring up Arcia now, but if they feel he needs more time down there, fine. Move Saladino to UT guy, and 2B can be Villar, Dozier, Miller, whoever.
  5. That's why they have 19 in the peb (using waivers.) Didnt use JJ or Knebel...yet
  6. Justin Bullock pulled after 5 innings for Helena, trade must be pending.
  7. DS lookin' pretty smart going for Chacin over Lynn, Cobb et al. Meh, that was just a video game signing.
  8. Is it odd my initial reaction was to feel bad for Clancy?
  9. I don't care if he is criticized, and I'm sure he doesn't care either. It goes with the territory as GM everything you do will be second-guessed. It's so bad even when he makes moves that work he's criticized. (Playing a video game or something?) As long as he keeps doing what he's doing I'm happy. Try to make the team as competitive as possible each season without giving away too much of the future. Simple as that. At some point soon they will be ready to make a TRUE run, and hopefully for multiple years. But I can hear it now, when they win the WS the anti-Stearns folks will be saying "It took too long!!" That's not in blue, I guarantee that will happen.
  10. I don't want them to stand pat, I want them to sell. Last year too. My criticism of Stearns is that he's too close to the Bucks model. Sort of rebuild, sort of not. So we're left with a good team, but a team with more holes than can be fixed by a trade deadline deal or two. COULD they win the WS this year? Sure. But very small odds. I rather build a more talented roster and have multiple years of realistic chances at winning it all. Not saying I'm right, or anyone here is wrong. Just stating what I want him to do. But...we are leading the wild card. All you have to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen. Look at the teams that have played in the world series recently. A lot of 86-92 win teams, which is what the Brewers are. We have shown we can beat the best of the best, its just a matter of getting hot at the end of the year. Sure, anything can happen. I acknowledged that. It's all about the odds, and I rather have several years where the odds are much higher than "going for it" this year when the odds aren't very high.

  12. I agree guys, just pointing out reality, and where they're coming from. Personally. I don't like this Bucks model of being sort of competitive. I want Hader, Burnes. Peralta, and Woodruff in the rotation of it's my choice. And guess what, they may even win more games this year already doing that, even though it would be done with the future in mind. While we're at it, bring back Arcia, Santana, and Nottingham. Let Phillip's play. Delaying the rebuild drives me crazy. Watching Kratz, Perez, Orf, Broxton, etc. Play drives me crazy.
  13. Suter likely on dl for a while this time, Guerra and Peralra back so rotation is set. I believe Burnes will be a starter long term but they need him in the pen this year. Hard to argue, Barnes and Williams just cant be counted on.
  14. Sedar handled it perfectly. Why send Pina with no outs? Miley was a good send because there were 2 out and 50/50 chance of scoring. No problem with either decision.
  15. You have been the only one, twice now, bringing up religion. Please stop. Back on topic, I'm still confused. He said "I never believed those things." Then please explain why you posted them. This shouldn't be like pulling teeth. Just explain it so we can move on.
  16. This had a realistic possibility of happening last season? Didn’t know that. My original post was short, so I can see how it could be read as if I was proclaiming something as fact, that wasn't my intent. It's all speculation because the Brewers were not sellers last year, or this year. That's my point, I wish they WERE.
  17. Why do you think we would have been able to get Mejia straight up for knebel? I don't. Maybe they could have, maybe not. They may have wanted Hughes to go along with him or something, I do not know. But again, they were buyers last year, so I'm pretty sure they never even explored the option of trading for Mejia.
  18. I must have missed that rumor. Got a link? Rumor? There wasn't any rumor, the Brewers were buyers last year (sort of), not sellers.
  19. Man, I wanted to move Knebel at the deadline last year. Could have had Mejia for him. Just another example of how this playing the middle is delaying the rebuild.
  20. No doubt. Companies, people, sports teams, etc. are still really horrible with PR. The common wisdom is apologize, say as little as possible, and hope it blows over. Sometimes it does. But Hader (and the Brewers) would be wide to have a press conf, get all the details out there, answer any questions, and make it clear this is the last time anything will be said on the subject. That's how you get these things behind you. Could make it uglier for a couple days, but in the long run it's the best way to handle it because there are no lingering questions. Yes, some people won't believe him or support him. But that's going to happen no matter what.
  21. Every time hateful things are said about a group of people and it is brushed off with "It's okay, he's just a kid" is another time we are making it normal for this kind of speech to exist. "It was just locker room talk." "It's just video game banter." "It's just the internet, that doesn't matter." It's hate. It's demeaning groups of people. It is NOT okay. Edit: Travis Sarandos over at BrewCrew Ball said it better than I ever could. Yes, honestly I'm surprised by the reaction here. Sure, I expected people to be on all sides of this, but didn't expect the vast majority to just brush it off. Cain and others support him, great. Everyone on the team supported Braun too, and they ended up with egg on their face. Look, I do agree with everyone saying context matters. There IS a difference between things he said when he was 17 vs last week. And the context in which he said these things matter, at least to me. In fact, as I thought about it this morning I guess that's what is still missing. I would like to hear more detail on the context these comments were made. He doesn't owe me that, he doesn't owe me anything. Just saying for me to get comfortable cheering for him again, I would like to know. Not speaking for anyone else.
  22. Would your team have seats/bleachers? Who would run your PR department? Most likely someone from the Raiders or Cowboys.
  23. So it's not about the money afterall.
