  1. Each Sogard at bat is me before each work day, "well, this is going to suck, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised." A part of me has an unrealistic, crazy really, gut feeling hes going to wrap one around the foul pole every AB.
  2. The Big Ragu! Wasn't that a character on Laverne and Shirley? Yes. Killing me I can't post a gif from my phone.
  3. How do we know he needs regular ABs? He's not a rookie anymore. Maybe they want him in Milwaukee, working on things in the cage, etc., have a few days off and then play him again. I'm sure if they believed sending him to CS would help they would have done it already. Personally, I think they're playing both Thames and Santana in RF to see which one will win the Gold Glove.
  4. I don't think Saladino is going to be out for an insanely long amount of time. It's a sprained ankle and he's already missed 3 weeks. Even if it's a high ankle sprain or just a really bad ankle sprain, I can't imagine him missing more than a couple more weeks. I like the idea of targeting a SS now, and then having depth when Saladino comes back. I'm honestly a bit surprised we aren't giving Dylan Moore a look. In fairness, all I see are stat lines and haven't heard a peep about him up until this year...but the numbers certainly look good. Maybe he's this years Sogard at SS. I'd rather take a chance on an unknown like him than bring up Miller to play SS regularly. Jake Hager's numbers are even better than Moore, doubt we'll ever see either one though.
  5. Saladino is out for a while. As far as Santana goes, he's sat a few days and my guess is he'll get an opportunity to start a few games in the near future. Going to AAA isn't always the answer to everything. Besides, what's the difference if Santana is sitting on the bench rather than someone else? I don't think they've given up on Santana yet, we're not even half way through the season.
  6. This is correct...in the regular season. Also, assuming Hiura is a .900 OPS guy at the MLB level is a gigantic leap of faith. I know what DeGrom is. He's a guy in his last 7 starts that's gone at least 7 every time out and given up more than one run once. A guy like that helps our pen play up that much more. In my opinion, we've become obsessed with the game changing to a bullpen game. That's fine in May and June but let's see where things land in August and September when the inning counts are approaching all time records. As far as Hiura goes, many a prospect has tore up high A and AA and failed at the MLB level. We still don't know who or what Hiura is and likely won't for a few years. At the end of the day, just like every other prospect, he's still a gamble. Agreed. But everything is a gamble. Hiura is the first bat in years I would go all-in on. Not sure where you're getting all time innings records. The main guys have been used very carefully. As a whole? Doesn't matter when those bullpen innings are being eaten up by like 17 different relievers.
  7. Peralta actually threw around 20% off-speed, pretty typical for any pitcher. Plus: 1) He threw what Pina/bench told him to throw 2) He has two fastballs, which are very different 3) Why mess with success? 6 shut-out innings means pitch selection was just fine. As he moves along, he may need to throw more curves. But his success will always depend on FB command.
  8. We have become obsessed with this TOR starter concept. The game has changed, and a 2B capable of hitting .900 OPS for 6 years is more valuable than a TOR starter for 2 1/2. I much rather get steady starts out of a bunch of #2 type SP, great BP, and as many above avg bats as possible. Hiura is one of them.
  9. Not really young ones maybe not but the teenagers? Absolutely. I bet if you surveyed teenagers in the inner city and asked who, on average, makes money, an NBA player or an MLS player I’d bet 90% of them would say NBA. And how many of them even know who the best players in the world are? I’m an educated sport lover who spends half his day looking at scores and browsing the internet and even I can’t name more than 10 professional soccer players in the world. Professional soccer has absolutely no draw to inner city kids. Agreed. But not because of money, and not limited to inner city kids. In a lot of suburban areas even sports like volleyball and lacrosse are more popular. Not much money in those sports. If you don't grow up in a soccer family, very tough to get interested. Similar to baseball in that regard.
  10. Paul, do you think kids have any concept of what NBA players make vs MLS? They have no clue, they can't differentiate between a million and $50 million. Has absolutely nothing to do with it. Besides, the best soccer players in the world make more than anyone. It's as simple as your first point, cultural. Games aren't on TV, it's just not on the radar for kids. Back to the WC, some great matches so far. Crazy goal that ref helped Senegal score against Polska.
  11. Mid-season poll should be real interesting. After the top 3 of Peralta, Hiura, Burnes I have no idea who I would even put at 4...5...6..7. I expect to see more Rookie/DSL players at the bottom of the list, we'll see.
  12. Absolutely. I'm not suggesting Peralta will need to be sent down for a couple months or anything. Probably more like a couple 10 day stints.
  13. Yes, I will disagree. There is no evidence, none, that would indicate bouncing a player back and forth from starter to BP would increase chances of injury. There is also no evidence that that bouncing a player from the BP in Milwaukee back to a starter in CS hurts a pitcher's development. There is no room in the rotation at the moment, possibly all year for Burnes. But he may be able to help them in the pen at some point. I'm not sure where the problem is there? Burnes gets some MLB experience, and the Brewers get another effective arm in the pen. Sorry, I just don't see any down-side.
  14. If they did this deal it would be very difficult for me to hang in there as a fan. I would not trade Hiura or Peralta, let alone both of them. Especially for a pitcher.
  15. How does pitching in Milwaukee vs Colorado Springs affect a pitcher's arm?
  16. He's only at 75 innings right now. His limit is likely 150 and they are only about 2 weeks away from the halfway point. I can see a 6 man rotation at some point or skipping his turn a couple times and that would keep him at his target. I know you keep throwing it out there, but they're not going to a 6 man rotation. They need the arm in the bullpen, not another starter. They have basically been using a 4 1/2 man rotation all season. If Peralta stays in the rotation all year, even using a very conservative number of 5 innings per start, he would rack up another 90 innings. That's 165. And more likely it would be closer to 180. They can't just keep him on the 25 man and skip his start a few times. I mean, they could, but that would be a waste of a roster spot for way too many games. Maybe they ride him until Davies is back, send him down and he can skip a couple starts, limit his outings here and there, and then you'll have him fresh for the stretch run. He can come up and replace whoever is injured/ ineffective at that time. I agree Nelson isn't even in the picture. If and when he comes all the way back, we'll see where things stand. Nothing to even plan for at this point though.
  17. There is no timetable for Nelson to throw off a mound or to return to the Brewers' rotation, because those benchmarks all depend on his repaired right shoulder. " I'm not behind schedule or anything. I'm still on schedule or maybe even ahead of schedule." Anyone else notice this? So.... is there a timetable for return or not?
