  1. Boilerplate Manager's Guide: Rule 2 (h) MUST not play a catcher in a day game following a night game. No exceptions. This is not a guideline or even a rule, it is THE LAW. I will echo complaints about Perez in the OF. I am not a line-up hound, but there is no way Perez should ever start in the OF if 3/4 Yelich, Cain, Santana and Braun are healthy. At least Sogard isn't starting too.
  2. I don't know that you were a voice in the wildnerness,, but I agree with you- and a lot of people here do as well. They signed Chacin then figured they would roll with Guerra, Gallardo, Miley, Suter, etc. in Spring Training and see what sticks. It is a tremendous risk for a team like the Brewers to devote a big percentage of salary to a good, nor great, SP for multiple years. As you said, they have help on the way very soon so guys like Chacin and Guerra serve as an inexpensive bridge. I much rather see Burnes or Peralta in the rotation than Cobb or Lynn.
  3. I'm wondering if they changed where the gun picks up the pitch again this year? Seems velo is down for a lot of guys.
  4. Generally, I don't like to nitpick who's in the line-up, batting order, etc. That said, I do think Sogard is playing too much. He did just miss a 3 run shot by a foot, and missed another just like it earlier this year. So if those go fair his OPS looks much different this early in the season. That said, Villar needs to play every day so we know what we have. If he's not cutting it, they can always sprinkle in Sogard more later on. Good news, Braun/Thames are back and Nottingham is starting. Really looking forward to see how he looks as a catcher, and yea the bat too.
  5. Right, I wasn't knocking Suter. As you said, it's all about using the resources you have. As we move forward, there's not going to be room in the rotation for Suter anyhow with Nelson, Burnes, Peralta, and Ortiz on the way. And Woodruff has a higher upside as a starter than Suter, just makes a lot of sense to go that route. Thanks for linking that Hader article by the way, great read. It really affirms my opinion, that he should be given a shot at the rotation at some point. Does it have to be this year? No. But this is what I got out of the article. He is knocking down every concern about being a starter one by one. His control is a problem, he can't be a starter. Well, he has addressed that. Relies too much on FB to be a starter. Done. He is mixing in more sliders and even a change here and there. If they ever give him a shot at the rotation, I have no doubt he'll get more comfortable with his change and use it more, and learn how to at least pitch into the 6th inning.
  6. I don't like the notion of bringing Peralta up to the BP. There's a chance he could be in the rotation this year, so keep him stretched out. Once Woodruff is eligible to come up, put him in the rotation and put Suter in the pen. Then you have Liz and Ramirez as options. Houser, I'm not sure. He has the stuff to be a starter, and they're using him that way. Not sure if he should be called up to the pen again, or let him continue to develop as a starter.
  7. It's annoying but I don't think the Brewers are doing anything wrong. Team doctors know more than we do, and if they think an injury may be day to day you can't just immediately DL someone every time they miss a couple games. Braun in particular, he will be day to day for the next three years. So you DL him, he comes back, and may have to sit after two games already. That's just the way it will be with him, day to day, year to year. As for Yelich, just seems like they may as well be cautious and throw him on DL for another 10 days and bring Broxton or Phillips up.
  8. It is a good question, but not MOST important. The most important question is what will Augie call him? My guess? Jason Nardington.
  9. I've been higher on Peralta than anyone, but he did pitch only 120 innings last year. Burnes turned in 146 innings. Just seems like Burnes may be built to go the distance this season, while I don't know if Peralta would make it to the finish line if is called up too early. They could control it somewhat, and maybe jumping to 170-180 innings is something they think he can do, we have no idea. I don't think it's impossible they're both up in June. Just depends on how they pitch between now and then, timing of Nelson's return, and status of Guerra, Davies, Woodruff, and Suter. (Also, probably depends how the season is trending in general.)
  10. I know there's a theory out there that all the weight lifting has contributed to injuries. No idea if that is true, or really could ever be proven. But it does make sense to me. In the "old days" players didn't lift much. These days, most players spend a lot of time in the weight room. You see it in the NFL as well. Maybe there's something to the fact that getting more bulked up than what is natural for your body type can cause strains and tears?
  11. Yea, Snell played great defense. Terry is another guy that got way too many minutes. I like those two on the court on the defensive side of the court at crunch time, otherwise I would like to see Sterling Brown get those minutes.
  12. Chase, time to prove you're a TOR ish pitcher. 3-0 lead, win this game.
  13. Not even necessary, since the players will be robots long before then.
  14. I noticed that as well, it is a good sign at least. Also, regarding Tyrone Taylor, I predicted he would break out last year. Of course, he ran into injury problems and ended up having a wasted season. Off to a great start this year, taking some walks too. Always a good reminder, there are the All Star type studs like Braun and Fielder who roll through every level and put up monster numbers. But there's plenty of players who have ups and down and turn into good MLB players. I think a lot of that has to do with how aggressively a lot of these guys are promoted through the system these days.
  15. I want no part of any coach that believes Maker will be the NBA MVP one day.
  16. Only if it's too early to get excited about Gilbert Lara again.
  17. Advanced stats back then: "1-10, how hung-over are you today? 6? Ok, you're in the line-up."
  18. As I pointed out earlier, he was.
  19. Now THAT'S something I didn't know. Wow.
  20. I would argue adding Yelich and Cain had little to do with last year or this year. It's about building the type of team he wants over the next few years. Not directed at you, personally, but I think that's the point a whole lot of people miss when trying to figure out why we have all these OFs this year and "seem" short on starting pitching.
  21. Who was also DFAd. Only they didn't call it that back then.
  22. I can see that now, but that was not my intent. Have been around here for 10+ years and 6,000 posts, have never been one to post provacative stuff. Until now, I think the closest I've come to that is putting Peralta #1 on my Top 25 list. Well, if the results so far this year are two be believed, you may be "Prospect Nostradamus". Unless you are talking about Wily. Who is a stark reminder on being careful not to put too much hope on homegrown pitching prospects. But I digress ... I am no such thing, that title rightfully belongs to Clancy.
