  1. Hitting coach: "Don't swing at sliders in the dirt." Brewer hitters: "Hold my beer"
  2. Clutch isn't a thing, so that didn't actually just happen.
  3. This smells like "We know what Williams can do, good opportunity to get a closer look at Houser." I'm good with it, Williams will be up again soon enough. Either him or Hoover will be up probably by the end of the weekend. Yelich to 15 day DL or one of Aguilar/Sogard/Perez has to go.
  4. Other than maybe Sogard playing a game or two more than I would want, I think CC has handled lineups very well. Like it or not, everyone is going to play, that's CC philosophy. You can't expect someone to step up and hit in August when he's only had 30 ABs all year. As long as it's not at the expense of keeping Cain and Yelich out of the line-up, which he hasn't done.
  5. Something tells me the Top 25 will have a major shake-up next time. There are so many players who could go up or down a lot of spots. Lost in the shuffle last night, Mav is taking walks- great sign for him.
  6. No, you want the 7 seed and play Boston. Want no part of Toronto or LeBroneers. They have played well against the Celtics this year, at least they would have a punchers chance.
  7. They may be selling, but it has nothing to do with Knebel. They are so deep in the BP that losing Knebel isn't that big of a jolt. If they're selling, it will be because they're scoring zero runs a game and getting a quality start is like finding a unicorn.
  8. Because Stearns has to deal with the reality of small market baseball. Ideally, they would have torn it down completely and rebuild from there. But Mark A/ Stearns figured fans wouldn't tolerate a 65 win season, especially after the unexpected success in 2017. So you get guys like Chacin to eat innings for a year or two. Not saying I agree or disagree with that line of thinking, but that's why. It's a careful balance between being competitive enough to be relevant, without sacrificing the future.
  9. Because Cain's contract is for five years not one. They had the opportunity and money to sign a player like this, who knows if a similar opportunity would be available next off-season. Ditto for Yelich. Also, I'm not suggesting Stearns looks at the season as 100% rebuild mode. Just saying that's what I would have wanted.
  10. I know it's very early, but I wanted them to go this route all along: Hader Anderson Woodruff Davies Chacin Nelson comes back when he's ready, Burnes steps in if someone else is ineffective or injured. Nelson Hader Anderson Burnes Davies I'm just sick of trotting out Suter, Chacin, Guerra, Miley, Derby and anyone else who are mediocre at best and don't even fit into the long term plan anyhow. The sooner Hader, Burnes, Peralta, etc. get added to the rotation, the sooner they are legitimately ready to compete. We could have fooled ourselves by signing Lynn or whoever but that would not have made much of a difference. We all want the Brewers back in the WS. That's never going to happen with Suter, Miley, and Guerras of the world in the rotation. Stop pretending this team can win the WS this year, and continue on with the rebuild. If they would have had that focus, they could have traded Knebel among others.
  11. Probably the least likely option so far. No way Hader is going to the rotation this year. And even if they did move him he would almost certainly be sent down to be stretched out first. I would guess Albers gets the role for the most part. Hader or Jennings might get the 9th every now and then when the matchups fits. Yup, not likely. Although I don't agree with "No way Hader is going to be in the rotation this year." CC and DS have even state that earlier this year, that Hader can start, can use him in the pen, etc. So while not likely at all today, I could see it happening at some point this season. There's still this misconception out there that a starter needs to go 7 innings. Nelson and Anderson weren't even close to that last year. If Hader can give you 5+ innings with his stuff, I'll take it. There's now plenty of depth in the BP, even without Knebel. Ramirez is still a viable LH option not even being talked about. It's early. But if Suter, Woodruff, Chacin, etc. keep struggling they bring up Guerra. How long does that last? At some point, just bite the bullet and add Hader and Burnes to the rotation. At least we could look forward to those starts.
  12. Suter to BP Hader moved to rotation Williams up Albers closer I guess
  13. Not even close. Two things people overlook, and I'm guilty as well. 1) Recency bias 2) MLB season is 6 months, 162 games long. Yet we react like a Packers game where 1 or 2 games are a huge deal. That said, I've been saying it since November, this team is still rebuilding so I really won't be disappointed if they do have a 75 win season.
  14. Stupid. Already in scoring position with 2 outs, little to gain stealing 3rd
  15. Have a feeling he would have went with this line-up even with a healthy Yelich. Hoping Suter channels his inner-Clancy and pitches like a #1 prospect tonight!
  16. Thanks for doing this Mass, we don't mind the abbreviated format. Just need the DLR!! Last thing I read every night. Seeing the first DLR of the year is like Christmas for me.
  17. I've been hoping for that for a long time. I think there's a lot of dogma in current practices. A team with as many long relievers and short starters as the Brewers should definitely be trying this. I think as soon as teams start doing it, it's going to become less unusual pretty fast because it will prove effective in many circumstances. Totally agree Luke. I think there's some stigma in trying new approaches because of the fact that "everyone does it this way for a reason". I would counter that by saying it isn't the way that it was done 30 years ago, which isn't the way it was done 30 years before that. The game and best practices are constantly changing and evolving because of various factors. I think in 10 years there might be a much larger blur between starter and reliever and guys who can go 2-3 strong innings followed by 2 days off or so might be a lot more common role. It's not just about who you have, it's about putting them in the best position to succeed. Obviously a traditional approach of starter goes 6-7, relievers go 2-3, isn't the best way for our pitching staff. I have been against the piggy-back approach and have given the reasons why. But THIS approach I think could work. Not sure about all season, but certainly for a stretch.
  18. With Jennings, Barnes, etc. looking good and Hoover, Williams, Ramirez and others a call away it sure seems like the BP is in great shape. I guarantee there's at least talk within the organization about moving Hader into the rotation. Would not surprise me in the least if they go that route if the rotation continues to struggle. Who knows, Hader and Burnes could both be in the rotation come May.
  19. In the past, a 2B who had to deal with some inflammation wouldn't be a big deal. Now, with the extreme shifts, a 2B actually needs a strong arm to make the throw to 1B from shallow RF or behind 2B when the shift goes to the left side of the diamond. Here's hoping it goes away, or at least can be managed.
  20. From his Twitter page Under his name: "Oklahoma State alum. Milwaukee Brewers part time seasonal apprentice. Advisor-Satya Investment Management. Future lawyer." He has a lot of posts complaining about MiLB pay, so I'm not sure if the "part time seasonal apprentice" is a poke at MiLB, or if he has retired to become a financial advisor. Very confusing when you add the fact he's not showing up on any roster, and no injury has been reported.
  21. Scoring zero runs also greatly reduces odds of winning most games.
