  1. Why pick and choose? If all four were really good starters, would it be a problem to have 4/5 of your rotation set for 5-6 years?
  2. Same reason you mess with anything, to make the team better. The bullpen is extremely deep now, and even deeper when Suter goes back there. Then there's still Miley, Ramirez, and others waiting in the wings. There's lots of options there to cover Hader's innings with similar results. There are not a lot of options to start and give you 5 good innings. Hader's job as a reliever is to throw gas and strike people out. As a starter, he would need to modify his game a bit. We don't know if he could be an effective or even dominant starter, and how long it would take. The way I look at it, sooner we find out, the better.
  3. I doubt the Brewers have any internal definition of "a #3" or "a #5" pitcher. They signed Chacin to be... Chacin. Exactly. I also doubt the Brewers or any organization views SP as #3 or #4, whatever. They signed Chacin to be an innings eater for a couple years as they start sprinkling in Nelson, Burnes, Peralta, etc. I was not a fan of the signing, and I'm still not. Yet I understand why they did it. I would much rather give Hader the chance to start, or roll with Guerra until Nelson and/or Burnes are ready.
  4. That's ridiculous. He won't be DFAd until Yelich comes back from the DL.
  5. Yes! Forgot to mention that earlier on my list, that was a great series. Manhattan is another series I forgot earlier. Another really good series if you like history. It's about the group of scientists charged with building the A bomb. Not as good as "Turn," but definitely worth watching.
  6. That's cute, but not what I actually said in my post in either tone or substance. Your post and a few similar to it adds nothing to the topic. If you feel the topic is foolish, you're not required to respond.
  7. After reading everyone's response, here's my answer to my own question. Let's say they're going into 2020 as a legit contender, and Braun is coming off a bad year. They also have Ray or Grisham, etc. who raked in September after getting called up. The money will be spent either way, do you want Braun as the 4th OF or Philips, Grisham, Ray, etc. if they've shown some ability to hit the ball, and obviously offer much better defensively. That's the scenario I see playing out, Braun will have a spot this year and next, but going into the 2020 season a lot of variables in play.
  8. No, they're not eating $46MM. I expected straw man responses like this. And yes, hitters (even the great ones) "forget" how to hit overnight. I'm not saying Braun has yet, but at his age it's not anywhere near impossible that happens before the end of his contract. Someone mentioned Pujols, great example. The Angels will have to make a decision like this too. Except they have a lot more money and play in the AL with DH. Even at that they may very well move on from Pujols. Kemp is another example, there are always veteran contracts like this where cost can way exceed production.
  9. How can asking a question be overreacting? I take it by your response your answer is never? No matter what he does the next three years, he will never be DFAd?
  10. Ok, to get this out of the way NO I don't think the Brewers should DFA Braun. My question is at what point do you do so? IF he's hitting .600 OPS at the break? IF he's at .600 at the end of the season? Seriously asking what it would take. As long as he's even .725ish he's serviceable. He looks lost now, which happens to every single player- but what if it's more long-term? You're stuck with either forcing play Braun because of his status and pay, or have him waste a roster spot on the bench. Eating $40MM+ is a hard pill to swallow, but they also can't afford an unproductive player on the bench the next three years. This is no hiding Wang in the BP for a year, it's carrying a position player who can't hit for several years. I do think he'll come around and be at least a serviceable player the rest of this season, but I just have a feeling at some point in the next 3 years he's going to really fall off. I just think it's a rather interesting question on when the Brewers would be willing to eat his salary, what it would take.
  11. Extreme example. They win 58 games the next 4 seasons, and CC doesn't get fired? It's business. No matter what their personal relationships are, results trump that.
  12. If Burnes is ready, no way do I hold him back until next season. Waiting for June to push back arbitration a year? Sure, why not. What about Peralta? He is basically on the same track as Burnes. If he keeps turning in impressive starts, at what point do you bring him up? I would ride Guerra, Miley, whoever until June. Then bring Burnes and Nelson up. Come July/August I would try to trade Chacin for sure, possibly Davies too, and bring up Peralta. Then starting off 2019: Hader Burnes Peralta Nelson Anderson Woodruff shuttled as needed, or in the bullpen. Ortiz in the wings. Rebuild doesn't truly take the next step until this next group of starters get going. They will need to adjust, as the league adjusts to them. It could take time, so best to get them started sooner rather than later.
  13. Counsel has some goodwill saved up in the bank, but it's not like he's untouchable just because he has a good relationship with Stearns. This team has been playing bad baseball. Mental errors, physical errors, too many horrible ABs. Doesn't matter how much of that is CC's fault, or what he can do about it. That's impossible to prove one way or another. I do not think he losses his job during the season unless he just completely "loses the team." Even after the season, I doubt Stearns pulls the trigger but it's not impossible. I think the mistake we make is trying to justify a manger change with objective reasoning. But those decisions are almost always more subjective than objective.
  14. Horrible excuse, he's a professional. Where's his sunglasses by the way?
  15. Wouldnt mind going way against the book here and walking Bryant. With no outs, no. But with one out, yea.
  16. Drivers license not required to sell your tickets on stub hub. Plus, plenty of cubs fans live in Milwaukee area. Yeah, that makes sense as the Cubs are the older team. I'm glad we're 320 miles from Chi! (and as I type Bryant brings a loud cheer) This is SO disconcerting. Chicago metro area 10MM, Milwaukee an hour or less away. That simple.
