  1. Daniels AND Clark graded out as excellent (Yes, excellent) d-linemen last year. I suppose the above assumption does require assuming that Wilkerson rebounds somewhat under Pettine, but I don't think that's crazy. Then the word excellent is getting thrown around too casually. An excellent lineman stops the run and consistently gets pressure on the QB. Daniels and Clark were really good against the run, but they are not pass rushers. Clark has potential to do that. But my comment was really more about the position group as a whole being excellent. I just don't see the ceiling being excellent, but who knows.
  2. I think the truth is somewhere in between. I do believe in the past they fooled themselves into thinking they were better than they were. For example, thinking Daniels, Clark, Wilkerson and Lowery should be excellent? Excellent? I would settle for that group being above average, and that's not even a given. Just an example, but I think the same thing held true for the WR group last season. New GM and DC can't change everything overnight. And yes, I would have rather see them just hire a new Head Coach and get on with it. But with Aaron Rodgers at QB you don't want to tear it down to nothing and rebuild. In fact, the way the salary cap works in the NFL they really couldn't have done that anyhow. They've made improvement, there's still the draft, camp casualties, etc. Plenty of time to improve the roster even more. But I do agree I'm not wildly optimistic about this season. All I ask for is to improve the roster from the 2-53 best players and I think they're doing that.
  3. As long as we're being hospitable, welcome back Woodruff too!
  4. I don't think it means that at all. They have been one arm short in the pen for a while now. Woodruff is just one more guy that can go multiple innings. After a Suter start, Chacin, Guerra, or anyone else. I don't see why he's being tied to Suter specifically? In terms of Woodruff claiming a spot in the rotation, it's pretty clear that Suter is in the weakest position to maintain his spot right now. However, you're correct in terms of giving some length to cover innings for <=5 inning starts from the bullpen doesn't necessarily have to link to Suter specifically. Heck, he could even have to cover innings tonight if Chacin has problems with the Royals. Yea, that's my point. If they were looking at replacing Suter in the rotation with Woodruff, they would have brought up Lopez or Houser and keep Woodruff stretched out in CS. Don't get me wrong, I would take Woodruff over Suter in the rotation but obviously the Brewers don't see it that way. Could very well be if Suter has another bad start or two they're planning on Burnes or Peralta to take that spot.
  5. I don't think it means that at all. They have been one arm short in the pen for a while now. Woodruff is just one more guy that can go multiple innings. After a Suter start, Chacin, Guerra, or anyone else. I don't see why he's being tied to Suter specifically?
  6. He was smart not to trade them for less than what he thought they were worth. I'm guessing he would have traded one or two of those guys in a minute if he got the return he wanted. Still would.
  7. Not what I would prefer, but remember what's best for the team comes first. Lopez is not very good, so it's Woodruff. It's not like Woodruff can never be a starter again in his life, it's just what the team needs right now.
  8. Well, he was in the bullpen to start the season. I sure hope he was brought up to start, but I don't think it's a given.
  9. Not only that, Stearns resisted the temptation to spend a ton in dollars, prospects, or both to add a rotation arm. Yes, it's early, but so far they're doing just fine and still have Nelson, Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta in reserve.
  10. Yea juggle Braun, Santana, Aguilar, Phillips. More starts for Braun at 1B, which is actually a good opportunity for him early in the season. He needs to get comfortable there, as he may not have much of a choice down the road a year or two. Plus, having those four players shuffle between the OF/1B will ensure nobody will ever be happy with any line-up posted in the IGT.
  11. I'm a retired draftnick, so I really don't research the players anymore. One thing I do know from closely following the draft for many years, it's tough finding a pass rusher. The drop-off from a true stud to the rest of the pack is usually tremendous. For years the Packers have tried to find one, and have failed rather miserably. Is Chubb special ? I do not know. If he is, I have no problem if the Packers move up to get him, but they better be right. Otherwise, they can sit where they are and have a choice of 2-3 really good DBs, which they also need anyhow. Or they could make a couple a couple trades to move down in the 1st, and up in the 2nd. Ending up with 4 picks late 1st/ early 2nd would be pretty interesting.
  12. Time for Sterling Brown to get Snell's minutes. These teams are so close, something minor like that could make a big difference. I have more confidence in Brown knocking down a couple shots, and that's what they need.
  13. Just looked through the schedule again, I don't see another loss anywhere.
  14. Shaw, Thames, and Bandy have yet to hit into a DP.
  15. Medrios is awesome, he would be the perfect solution to this bad rotation that just won six games in a row. Sorry for the snark, it's just an odd question to ask when the starters have been performing well the last couple weeks, other than Suter's last start. Plus, there's already an ongoing thread devoted to starting pitching.
  16. Ok, now I KNOW you guys are just having some fun with me. I suppose next you're going to tell me they actually moved the ball around of offense?
  17. Due to a family commitment, I didn't see much of games 3 or 4. But the pieces I did see, did my eyes deceive me or were they actually switching a lot more on defense?
  18. Why would Sogard go to the minors? Since the Brewers are picking up the tab, only costing prorated minimum wage some team would put him on their 25 man roster. Would they? I'm not so sure. But like I said, even if that happens, oh well. They need 8 in the pen if they're going to continue to have 5 inning starts. Who else goes? Certainly not Aguilar. It's either Sogard or Perez, something has to give. They can keep shuffling a couple guys with options in the bullpen for a while in order to add a fresh arm. Probably what they will do.
  19. What I would do today: Put Woodruff in rotation, move Suter to BP, DFA Sogard. (90% sure he would accept assignment to AAA, if not oh well.) I agree, I don't see this need to "give Miley a try." If it was the beginning of the season, still wouldn't love it but could live with giving him a shot. But we're too far down the road now for an experiment.
  20. Winning late is contagious, dont think its not. Night and day in that area vs last year.
  21. Thames not running hard, cost the winning run. I just can't tolerate crap like that.
  22. Man I was rooting for Rivera to make it with Brewers, at least he's getting a shot in the bugs, good for him.
  23. Except they are one short in the pen. So if/when Miley and Logan come up, Williams and position player go down. You still get to keep Drake.
  24. Well, I know a guy who still happily wears his Reuben Quevedo jersey. Everyone has a guilty vice I suppose I guess I really don't mind Drake if he is truly used as he was last night. But with the short starts and low scoring games so far, the bullpen is being taxed pretty good, and it's tough having a guy out there who you can't trust to get an out in any sort of leverage situation. In any case, they are going to have a little pitching crunch soon when Logan and Miley are ready to contribute, and something will have to give. Yes, something will have to give, and that something is Taylor Williams. You may not like it, but he has options and he will go down before Drake.
