  1. They're opening a new arena, Prunty isn't sexy. Unless he takes them deep into the playoffs, they'll bring in a new coach like Sam I Am.
  2. That is the question that keeps hanging me up. If there is a move "A" that serves as the lynch pin, and that move seems to be taking on a bad contract to get prospects, how does that translate to "all in" and a cascade of other trades that back that up? Remember that HH19 said t his would be a big trade. Maybe our definitions of "big" differ, but that trade would have to a) send a significant piece out of Milwaukee and b)bring back a piece/pieces that make the team better now. It can't be a move to just take on a salary dump and get prospects. The only thing that I have seen that makes any sense given the information that has been shared is the Cleveland idea. The only other option is that if trade "A" is a salary dump, the acquired prospect(s) are just moving through. I think it's important to remember HH19 is just graciously passing on what he has heard. I think he would even admit (maybe already has) that he doesn't know the entire plan. So these bits and pieces are very interesting, but will never fill in all the blanks. For example, it is called plan "A" for a reason. It's not the only plan. If they got lucky on Darvish it may/ may not have changed their plans. On all these deals it takes two to tango, so the entire off-season plan can't be based on a series of events you can't control. I'm sure DS, like all GMs, has a bunch of potential moves in mind, and depending on how the dominos start falling the plan changes accordingly.
  3. 27 pages? Didn't Carlos Gomez trade to the Mets go through yet or something?
  4. I don’t mind it...until they get something “right” and expect some kind of praise etc. There was that guy last year or the year before where his attitude wasn’t worth any information. Was that the PronceFielderXx1 guy? No, he was the guy who claimed the Brewers were 267-2 or something crazy in games he attended.
  5. Prunty named interim HC, nice we move on to Jason Kidd Lite.
  6. Beat me to it. I've been thinking of Abreu also. HighHeat mentioned two things that put Abreu on my radar. First, AL team. Which makes perfect sense, because we have heard nothing about any deal with the White Sox. Secondly, he mentioned "working out contracts" which would make sense with Abreu- trying to add another year or two.
  7. There's a difference between "being competitive" if everything goes just right, and competing at the highest level. Does Darvish believe the Brewers can be a legit WS contender in the next couple years, that's the question. That said, there's no guarantees when it come to this. The Brewers aren't in a position to guarantee they can compete at the highest level the way the Dodgers, Cubs, Nats, Yankees, Astros, etc. can. Point being, it will take a bit of a leap of faith no matter what. Still, I fully expect him to shop our deal to one of those other teams and they'll beat us by a bit and that will be it. And if that does happen, can't help but wonder if that is by design- similar to the Prince Fielder offer. I doubt it, as Stearns doesn't seem like the type to waste time playing that game. But there will always be that 1% of me that can see it's a nod at the fans to show "See, we're trying to compete with the big boys, and we'll spend the money."

  9. I think we should stop saying Braun isn't going anywhere. Are the chances very small? Sure. But it still makes sense to move him if you're the Brewers, and plenty of teams would like to have him if the money was right- especially AL teams. And I do think Mark A has a great relationship with Braun, and Braun would waive his no-trade clause for the right team. Stearns is very good at keeping things quiet, and IF anything involving Braun is going on I'm sure he has pleaded with the other team no leaks. (Many of which are very good at flying under the radar themselves.) *Not predicting anything. Just saying I don't buy there's a 0% chance Braun gets traded.
  10. Meanwhile, the Brewers "people" are in sit down mode and currently determining if they are ready to compete at the highest level.
  11. Nice investigative work. Since there's literally not one other person on earth who sees that as an option, I think you nailed it. Now let us know if you see anyone referencing Scooter being let go that Stearns is too young, naive, and stupid to be GM. We will have one more bf poster identified.
  12. Disappointed. With all of you. 3 pages in and nobody has mentioned the obvious? Wang is done prematurely.
  13. You were towards the end. Shoe shine boy made it, fairly long bit with him actually.
  14. Let's just chalk this up to the fact it's January. Nothing else to talk or argue about.
  15. Making it difficult for guys to move on is a terrible precedent.
  16. My vote goes to "optics." That said, I'm guilty of using "at the end of the day."
  17. Saw it last night, there was a certain gorilla that looked familiar. ; )
  18. Yea, it's sort of like being mad at Mark Kotsay for playing CF or Yuni playing anywhere.
  19. If you like professional baseball, and have a demand for professional baseball, you have only 1 option. Like someone said above, if there were only a limited number of allowed breweries, so you had to go to them only for beer, their prices would be higher than if they also had to compete with other breweries. It does not matter that there are other alternatives in the "beverage industry". Yes you could choose to buy wine instead, but if you specifically have a demand for beer, you are being up-charged more than the actual free market price that would exist if more breweries existed. Well, the difference is you would be forced to get beer from that brewery at that price. With MLB, you can choose to watch on TV for "free." If enough people do that, they will need to respond. I don't go to anywhere near as many games as I used to. I just won't pay that much for parking and tickets for the 12-15+ games I used to go to. Not because I don't have the money, or I'm trying to send a message. I just choose not to. By the way, before I would ever stoop to buying wine I would make my own beer if prices were too high
  20. As we were discussing the NHL, which cities don't have a major sports franchise, etc. it got me thinking. I travel quite often, and have been most everywhere over my (many) years. Yet I have never been to Houston or Seattle.
  21. Tough question. Technically Riverside/ San Bernardino CA. But I count that as LA, so throwing that out. (Even though LA would never consider them part of LA.) As of today Vegas. But not counting them either since Raiders arte moving there. So next up would be Austin, TX.
  22. A core principle of a free market is free competition. There is no competition in MLB, thus it is not a free market. I am not saying the demand for baseball is down (which would imply lower attendance) I am saying the supply is fixed. Just because someone would pay a certain amount for something does not mean that is automatically what the market price is. How much would you pay for a cell phone if there was only 1 maker out there? Likely much more than what you paid for your current one, however since there are many manufactures you can choose to pay less. I agree having an actual city council or mayor or something owning a team would be horrible, but that is not the Packer model. I don't know what the perfect solution is, but things like owners being able to threaten to leave a city in order to get a stadium paid for should not be allowed, and there should be a salary cap that is much lower so the fans aren't paying for $13 beers to afford some crappy relief pitcher making $5M a year. There is absolutely competition. The competition for the Brewers is any other form of entertainment. Packers, Bucks, Badgers, Poto, Summerfest, State Fair, a nice dinner out, etc. Entertainment dollars can flex, but it's still basically a finite amount.
  23. I would probably tend to agree with you, but that would require ANOTHER state of the art arena to be built specifically for hockey. I have a hard time seeing that happening unless it's like 95% privately funded. Actually, if it was Waukesha County, they may be willing to pony up a bigger percentage than that. But again, will never happen for a whole variety of reasons.
  24. Lots of hockey fans in Madison. I think the best chance for success with NHL team in WI would be to have the arena out in western Waukesha county. Will never happen, but I think in order for it to work they would need to draw a lot of fans and corporate sponsorship from Madison.
  25. I don't blame them for trying. Wang obviously has a lot of talent. While the chances of it not working are obviously greater than having success, that's exactly the type of outside the box-type move that small market teams need to hit one every one in awhile to stay competitive with the big boys. Thing is, it was working out. He had a good season in AAA last year, so at his age still on track to be a good MLB pitcher. We will probably never find that out now, but going over to Korea can't be controlled- unless you just stay away from international players altogether.
