  1. Honestly, I don't listen to any broadcasters for their "baseball knowledge." I can probably count on one hand the number of times any announcer pointed out something about the rules, etc. that I didn't already know. I like Brian and Rock because they're like old friends, I just listen to their playful banter while I watch the game. I'm not looking for any deep insight, really not necessary. I'm watching the game so I can see all that for myself.
  2. That wasn't the reason, and you know it. I get you have different opinions about things, and that's fine. But it's this sort of comment that drives people crazy, since you know $2MM isn't the reason they let him go.
  3. Dubon will have about 70 games at AAA starting next year and so far his hitting is nothing special for the park/league. I guess the same could be said for Arcia last year but Dubon is no where near the prospect Orlando is/was. Doesn't matter. He is ready defensively, and his OBP could very well be as good or better than Arcia. Power is lacking, but that's ok. Ultimately, he's probably UT, and a very good one. But 2B is open next year, I rather see Dubon every day than give Villar another year to find himself, or some stop-gap veteran.
  4. I don't think they must sign a big FA, or must trade for a SP, or must do anything. Circumstances will dictate all that. For all we know, starting pitching will be the strength of this team 3 years from now. That's why it's dangerous to make big moves at this stage in the process. Everybody wanted a SP at the deadline, yet that's been the strongest part of the team. We need to know what we have in guys like Santana, Shaw, Arcia, Thames, Brinson, Nelson, Anderson, Davies, Suter, Hader, Brinson, etc. Way too many variables, and short history with these guys- or short history of this kind of success.
  5. He also basically zinged the Brewers by pointing out he never pays for any concessions. Bottom line, I mean look. He could be a great guy, who knows, but you're definitely going to get a healthy dosage of strange with anyone who's entire life revolves around one thing. Not wanting to take meds because you may miss a pitch in the bathroom? Ummm....ok.
  6. People loved Sogard all year? I'm sure they loved his production but I recall many people saying to enjoy it while it lasts because he'd he very likely to revert back to career norms. Was that the general consensus at the end of May? End of June? Beginning of July? No. It was within the first 10 days of his performance. To be fair, there were lots of people saying this continually in the IGTs and elsewhere, not just the first 10 days. General consensus was enjoy it while it lasts, could last a week or two months, who knows. But yea, it is comical that somehow Kinsler was supposed to be the bridge between where we are now and winning the WS.
  7. Settle the heck down. The guy has had a mere 46 ABs and has enough airlines miles logged between Milwaukee and Colorado Springs in the past couple months to earn lifetime platinum status. That doesn't matter. When someone has an agenda, you will never have legitimate debate. Point of view has never been objective, so this is what you're going to get. Agenda here is that rebuilding is wrong, and will never work.
  8. Pretty much what I expected, but interesting that guys like Phillips, Ray, Erceg, etc. are all over the place. Really hard to know how Top 10 will end up this time.
  9. I have empathy for fans who will die before they seriously go after a championship. A lot will. Heck it's been 35 years and I see no sign that any World Series are likely anytime in the foreseeable future. There's an awful lot of fans that have passed away since 1982. They had a chance this year. Not a great chance but a chance and guess who got the 2 guys who would have been the most help? That's right. The Cubs did. I'm an optimist. I won't throw in the towel just yet. But it's discouraging. As for the rebuild? That's almost laughable. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard about some rosy future for this team. They had more hope when John Jaha, Jeff Cirillo and David Nilsson were top prospects in their system. How'd that work? And those guys actually had some success in the big leagues. They have some nice prospects. So what, they should have. Some of them aren't producing in A ball. Oops! Brewers can't go out and buy Jon Lester's of the world. They never will. Yea, maybe you shouldn't be a Brewers fan. Rebuilding is so horrible and it will never work. When the time is right they will never sign a FA or make a trade. Mark A is cheap, Stearns is just this nervous kid shuttering in the corner. Things are so dire, you may want walk away now while you can.
  10. No, but it surprises me some people actually think Stearns is passive. He certainly has been this month letting his rivals sew up the division while he stood pat. That's not being passive, it's being smart and not letting emotions dictate decisions.
  11. There is value in sitting on the bench in the Majors. Plenty of starts and ABs to go around for both Brinson/Phillips, especially with Braun needing days off. It's not all bad starting a couple games, then taking a day off. Time to reflect on things, watch the game from the bench, slow everything down a bit. They've both been up already so the time is now, in my opinion, to start finding out if/how they fit into the long term plans. Part of me really wishes Broxton would get one more chance, but he has had plenty of chances.
  12. Is the overall talent in DSL stronger than it's ever been? Just seems every day there's different players with big games. Both at the plate and on the mound.
  13. One way to find out. What is Brewers record in games youve attended?
  14. OMG, now it's WITH certainty. And not just contending as you said, now its LEGIT contending. Instead of leaving like you promised, you keep moving the bar.
  15. No, but it surprises me some people actually think Stearns is passive. Further, if you can 100% without certainty prove to me, the Brewers will contend again anytime within the next 5 years, I will leave this board for good. Goodbye!!!! I can prove 100% without certainty the Brewers will contend again in 5 years. Now we will see if you're a man of your word.
  16. No, but it surprises me some people actually think Stearns is passive.
  17. Just flip him, like it's that easy. Almost never works, just like Lucroy and Jeffress. It's not about any prospect being as good as Gray. Maybe one will be, maybe not. But you get 6 years out of a prospect, vs 2 from Gray. And 2 years that don't mean much yet, sorry to say.
  18. This is the concern. And remember the gun is recording at least an extra tick this season. (I think closer to two MPH.) So he's really probably down at least 2 mph from 2016.
  19. If you don't trade Brinson or Hader what are really giving up?? A lot guys who should have a positive WAR for 6 years, vs Gray on rental for a couple years.
  20. Hoping they can still get a top 100 prospect for Knebel or Thames, but I doubt it. Maybe a smaller return for Garza or Hughes?
  21. We are rebuilding. That means Dubon at 2B next year, not Kinsler. Brinson and Phillips in the OF, not Granderson. I think (hope) Stearns is focused on building a team that can consistently win 95 games, rather than making moves like that to go from an 80 win team to an 82 win team.
  22. Yea, that's why you stay the course. Brinson/Phillips should be playing a lot the rest of this season and next year. Next season, start off with Dubon at 2B. Add Woodruff to the rotation to start the year. Maybe Burnes or Ortiz later in the year. Then it's just sit back and see which guys show they're part of the future, which are not, and who is still a question mark. They will definitely pony up some money and/or prospects for some help at some point, but hard to do that until you know what is really needed.
  23. Brewers chances are eliminated in 2018 and 2019? Wow, can you tell me where the S&P will be in 2019? That would be really helpful. By the way, Melvin "being aggressive" did not work. They didn't make it to the WS, much less win it. When the time comes Stearns will be plenty aggressive, thankfully he's using his brain instead of emotions to determine when to do so.
  24. In 3 years the Cubs will stlll be dealing their prospects (which Theo will draft and sign and develop between now and then) for good major league players to fill their few holes, and be 15 games ahead of the Brewers who will still be telling us to be patient because even though the first and second wave of prospects were busts, that third wave is really something. Epstein and Hoyer are head and shoulders above Stearns and will still have the advantage of a budget twice the Brewers'. One franchise is trying to sell hope for some future that never seems to get here and the other is selling winning. Brewers have 2, count em 2 playoff appearances in 35 years. Pathetic. It's so ironic. Why have they had only 2, count em 2, playoff appearances in 35 years? By doing exactly what you want them to do again this year!!
