  1. Best Hitter vs LHP Award: Scooter Gennett
  2. CC has made comments about how pitchers don't need to avoid CS, no reason to baby them. However, player development/ Front Office may have a different opinion and want some of these pitchers to avoid CS, or at least not have to spend a whole season there?
  3. Remember, it's not all that important where these guys are assigned to start the season. Some of these guys could advance very quickly once the numbers game gets shuffled and reshuffled at all the various levels within the system.
  4. I have watched him vs LHP this spring, and he looked very comfortable actually. I would pull him vs a LOOGY, but give him a chance against LH starters. Not every time, but sometimes.
  5. I don't always agree with JohnBriggs, but when I do it's about Scooter Gennett. You can't use his numbers from early in his MiLB career and very scattered numbers from his MLB career, while ignoring what he did in CS last year, and ST this year. In each case, it's a small sample size. And that sample means even less when dealing with a young player. Trend means more than what he did 3 or 4 years ago, and the trend is he's able to hit LHP at a serviceable level. If that means taking ABs away from Hill, who shouldn't even be on the roster, sobeit.
  6. Fully aware of his history vs LHP. But there are times when a young hitter figures it out. Usually the don't, since they're never given enough opportunity to get comfortable or they simply can't and never will be able to hit LHP. This season, there's no good reason not to give him more opportunities against LHP, and if he fails I'll shut up about it forever. Whether he's part of the future for the Brewers or not, he's obviously more valuable if he can prove to be a full time player at the position.
  7. Yes it does, they've already punted. And that's not including a Lucroy trade that's still possible, and Ryan Braun's back acting up before the season even started. There is no chance at any magic. Scooter has a better chance of being in the All Star Game than the Brewers have of making the playoffs.
  8. He is young, most LH hitters really struggle against LHP in the minors and early in their MLB career. Especially when those ABs are really spread out. I'm not pretending his splits will ever be equal, but if he can even be serviceable vs LHP, it absolutely would increase his value. If he wasn't such a natural hitter, I would say it's a lost cause. But I do think there's a chance in his case. If we want to use small samples, he hit LHP very well in Spring. Plus, it's not like he has to start against every LHP. Give him some chances here and there early on and see what happens.
  9. If the goal was winning the WS this year, I would agree. But it's not, so I don't see the downside in letting Scooter have plenty of ABs vs LHP. Downside is zero, upside is his value goes up significantly if he can prove he can play full time at 2B.
  10. No official word on the injury, but it wasn't Tommy John (don't even know if it's arm-related), but we do know Luna should be good to go for the start of the Maryvale Rookie League season in June. Luna yet to appear this spring... Very curious to know what the deal is with Luna...
  11. Who ever said waiting was risk free?
  12. Last chip, other than Smith, Jeffress, Scooter, Peralta, Braun...
  13. Exactly, I go every time it's in Milwaukee no matter who's playing. I would argue early rounds are no different than Sweet 16 weekend, because you get more games to watch in the early rounds. Vast majority of people who go to tourney games are like me, it's a fun experience to watch. The bands, talking to fans that traveled to Milwaukee, but mostly just watching the games live in person. Great games, upsets, buzzer beaters, etc.
  14. That's why Smith hasn't been traded yet. He could be part of the rise back to the top, so he doesn't fit the profile of a player they need to trade. This is a case where I think they should hold on to him unless/until someone offers a really good deal. That could happen at the trade deadline, there's always teams looking for a bullpen arm, especially LH.
  15. I loved that show! Looking back, it was pretty ground-breaking for it's time. It wasn't even on in prime time, and dealt with a lot various social issues. I will dig around Netflix and Hulu to see if I can catch a couple episodes this weekend for old times sake.
  16. Johnny Davis, another guy in nobody's Top 50. Completely forgot about him, and he turns in a 4-5.
  17. Think of it as the Super Bowl. Even if zero fans from the two NFL teams attended, it would sell out instantly right? NCAA Tourney is basically the same thing. Obviously not at that magnitude for a single tourney site, but same concept in that most fans that attend don't have a rooting interest in any of the teams. For example, Milwaukee always sells out instantly. I have been to the first two rounds in Anaheim and Arizona as well, same thing. It's not like the arena is filled with fans from the teams participating, those sections are rather small. And they still sell-out immediately.
  18. Wasn't your entire post projections? Difference is, yours is subjective opinion. Analytical projections are far from perfect, but at least there's an attempt to use objective data. For example, you say Santana is a HUGE upgrade over Davis- a guy who had an OPS of .828 last year. Let's see how Santana does over the course of an entire MLB season before we say that. What would he need to do to be huge upgrade? OPS over .900? I hope you're right though! You also say Garza/Peralta will be much better than last year. We don't know that either. Not do we know if Anderson will be way better than Lohse. Krod had 2 blown saves all year. To say Smith can do that, and Morales can take his role, bingo it basically evens out... that's another stretch. Most of what you said is putting the best spin on things, which is fine, but there's also a chance none of those things will be true.
  19. Right, plus we're getting a bit carried away. I think only one person thinks there's a strong chance they lose 100 games, nobody thinks there's a strong chance to win 82 games. OBVIOUSLY, neither are likely. The question was which one is MORE likely, which I thought was a pretty interesting question.
  20. Nice to see guys not even sniffing anyone's Top 25 having a good spring. While they aren't super-stacked at the very top, they are incredibly deep in prospects.
  21. If all the current players are with the team all year and I HAD to bet on 82 wins or 100 losses, I would put my money on 82 wins. However, if they trade Lucroy, Peralta, Smith, Jeffress, Scooter, Carter, etc. than I would bet on 100 losses. That would be a completely different team the last two months of the season.
  22. Stop and think about this. We're wringing our hands over whether the likes of EYJ, Middlebrooks, or Wilkins make the 25 man roster. In a couple years, we'll be talking about guys like Medeiros, D Williams, Ponce, Harrison, Lara, I Diaz, Clark, etc., etc. possibly being blocked by Hader, Lopez, Davies, Arcia, Phillips, Santana. There's going to be some very big decisions down the road, will be fun to debate.
  23. No, neither can play SS. I would prefer Rivera to get the majority of starts at SS. If it's Villar, then Rivera will get plenty ABs at 2B,SS,3B, and PH. Maybe not quite as many as starting every day at 2B in AAA, but pretty close. And I think it's worth finding out this year if Rivera is part of the future or not. There's a domino effect, as that will also help determine if Scooter is kept around.
  24. How do we know Stearns is holding out for a monster deal? We don't know what's being offered, but it could be nothing acceptable has been offered. Plus, it further complicates things if another team is looking for Smith or someone else to package. So everyone thinks about it forever, never gets done. While in the heat of a pennant chase, those decisions are made in a day. For example, what if someone offered a return similar to the Lind trade? Would you do that? I wouldn't, concussion concerns or not. I don't believe Stearns is waiting for a monster deal, or perfect deal- just a fair return. And I'm completely in his corner on that one.
