  1. I don't think they get a deal like that during the off-season. In fact, I can't believe they got that haul for Fiers/Gomez. (Since our new GM was involved in that, it scares me, but that's OT.) That trade was done at the deadline with a team that needed juice for the end of the year/ playoffs. Lucroy is starting to get up in age, and it's unclear if he had a bad year, or if it is closer to a trend. Peralta has the stuff to be a very good SP, but he struggled this year. Was it injury or something else? Either way, I just don't see anyone delivering several top shelf prospects for them. I know I could be dead wrong, and if they could get a return like that I would take it in a heartbeat.
  2. It would have if they were coming off the seasons they had in 2014. But both struggled this year, and that will really hurt their trade value. I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, it's just that the return may not be what you think it is.
  3. If someone is willing to take a significant portion of his salary, I don't even care if you get a decent prospect back. He is the one guy on the roster I view as a salary dump. I don't know what it would take for me exactly, but if someone would take on 50% of his deal, I would probably do it.
  4. Goal should be to the get the BEST talent, regardless of position. This team is not close to worrying about being too loaded at any one position. Look just a few months ago when it looked like they were loaded at SS. Instead, they have a legit star prospect (yet still a prospect) and a bunch of mediocre (at best) options in Segura, Sardinas, Rivera, etc. If a year or two from now they have a problem with too many corner OFs or too many SS, you can take appropriate action then. I have seen way too many times, in all sports, where a team targets "need" instead of best talent.
  5. The difference is, they haven't had anyone pushing him in RF/LK until now. I don't think it's necessary next season, as I'm fine with giving Rogers the chance and Santana can get plenty of ABs playing CF, some games in the corner OF. Issue may come in 2017 when you COULD have K Davis, Santana, Phillips, Coulter, and possibly Taylor and Roache ready to play the OF. Plus, with Braun's back, abs, whatever other issues he has, it just makes sense to consider this move.
  6. And right after that, they can trade Logan Schafer to the Dodgers for either Greinke or Kershaw.
  7. This. They need to be open to any deal at any time. None of this "wait to trade Lind when his value is higher" or "Braun is a team guy, he can't be traded." They have no obvious long term solution at C,1B,2B, or 3B. More young depth for starting pitching than they've had in well...maybe forever. But no guarantees they're all set there, by a long-shot. Plus, this entire team is incredibly right handed. So what does that mean? Be open to absolutely anything if it makes sense for a team to start competing (for real) in 2018. That means no Segura, Lucroy, Lind, Garza, KRod, Gennett and probably no Braun. Even Peralta can be dealt if the price is right. I really do get they need to consider selling tickets, future TV contracts, etc. But a few years in a row of 75-87 won't exactly make people rush to buy season tickets. And that's exactly what will happen if they try to keep the team "competitive" instead of rebuilding.
  8. There are reasons. With Lucroy, it's a real concern about concussions if he remains a catcher. As for Braun, you have a lot corner OF types either here now, or on the way shortly. Not room for all of them. Plus, he has his own health issues.
  9. Yes, most likely this is the beginning and end of discussion. My only point was maybe it's worth working with him at 3B all off-season and ST. But they know him best, and if they believe that's an exercise in futility, I get it. Then just put him at 1B. Lind should be traded no matter what anyhow, but it does create a bit of a logjam at 1B if they were planning on moving Lucroy there...or maybe even Braun.
  10. Lind should be traded no matter what. Rogers should get a shot playing 1B every day. Alternative is have someone work with him the entire off-season/ST on his 3B defense. If he can be avg there, you could put him at 3B and Lucroy or Braun at 1B. (I'm assuming both of them won't be traded.) That's what I would do. Rogers has shown power throughout his career. I actually give him credit for concentrating on BA and getting on base early on, the power numbers will come. He could be even more than a stop-gap, just give him a chance.
  11. Just when I was getting optimistic Peralta, Nelson, Jungmann fade down the stretch. Yes, Nelson was hit but had been struggling the last few weeks. Really need a 1a and 1b, and whenever that looks promising something always seems to go south.
  12. Houser touching 98 on his FB, consistently hitting 96. Not sure what gun is used, but wow. Just wow.
  13. Seems odd to sign another light hitting OF, when there's plenty of OF options available already in AAA/AA. Then again Perez was a big yawn at the time, and has actually been a serviceable player. As others have said, nothing to lose I guess.
  14. What is the harm in having Medeiros start the season in wi? If he continues to improve, he can get bumped up at any time. It's not like that would delay his timeline to MLB right?
  15. Medeiros was pretty mediocre, especially if you remove his first outing of the year. K rate is very good, but no harm in letting him begin the season in Wisc and earn a promotion. Nice work here And That! Obviously things change, but I bet it ends up very close to this.
  16. Brandon Diaz. Also, I think Medeiros starts in Appleton, certainly before Devin Williams would. But I'm thinking both start off there. Also, I think a couple more position players repeat
  17. The good ones. Not that the Brewers have a lot of experience in drafting/ developing starting pitchers but Yo is one example. Peralta is headed there. Nelson certainly showing signs he could be in the rotation for 6 years. Here's how I look at 2016. Yes, I would love to jettison Garza, and use that spot in the rotation to test drive guys like Pena, Thornburg, Suter, etc. However, I would not want to start the clock on guys who could be top of the rotation guys like Lopez, Hader, maybe Wagner and Houser too. With all that said, I think you need to bring a guy up when he's ready. If Lopez (for example) has a lights-out first half of the season you almost have to bring him up. All I'm saying is paying attention to service time is not foolish, it's something to consider with your best prospects. (Same goes for Arcia and Phillips by the way.)
  18. We don't know yet if 2015 was an outlier or a trend. But I agree with you, there's no reason not to start him next year to find out. I think even if he does have a season similar to 2014 there's no way he'll get a Gallardo type deal in return. Yo was 28 at the time, Garza will be 32 next year when a trade is made. Not to mention Garza's reputation. Bu that's ok, I would take any trade offer whatsoever just for salary relief.
  19. True, but Herrera is not part of the future, while Scooter MAY be in some fashion. I doubt Scoot will ever hit LHP, but if there's ever been a time to give him a bunch of ABs against them, it's now.
  20. Yes, Lind is exactly the kind of bat they need. Problem is, it does us no good the next couple years at least. So, the logical thing to do is trade him during the off-season. At some point down the road they may need to trade for a LH bat or pick up a FA similar to Lind at 1B or 3B. What I fear the Brewers will do is keep Lind, Lucroy, and Krod around until the trade deadline next season. Just so they can enter the season with something to sell to the fans.
  21. Fair enough Paul, and I agree a lot of that. Rogers should be playing more, Herrera not at all for example. What you outlined is all worth discussion, but OP presented it as "lets lose all we can."
  22. Everyone understands the argument. This is nothing new, people have brought it up back in May already. I went into more detail in my original post in this thread, so yes this last one was short and sweet. But I still stand by it. For you and others that want losses, it would have been better for your cause if Davies got rocked.
  23. Great win by Davies. Another nice outing by Thornburg. Santana gets on base 3 times again. Segura stays hot. All of this must be horrible news to some of you guys.
  24. I get it. I want the highest possible pick too. But that's how I would look at it AFTER the season. As in "Hey, good news is we have the #3 pick next year." But will I actively cheer and hope they lose? No. Never. I want to see Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann, Davies, etc win games. I want to see Segura and Lucroy continue their end of season surge. I want to see Santana continue to take. Guess what, that means fewer losses. Let's see the young guys play well to give us hope, and the veterans as well so they can be traded. Let's lose a bunch so we get the 4th instead of the 7th pick is foolish compared to winning and what comes with it.
  25. At this point, dealing him for some A-level prospects with a ceiling would not be a bad idea. Same for K-Rod. Yes, because lots of teams would love to give up high ceiling prospects for a horrible starting pitcher locked into a bad contract for two more years.
