  1. It's nothing more than repositioning the deck chairs on the titanic in the colored water industry.
  2. I don't see how this is any different from the DOD spending money on TV commercials or sponsoring a team in NASCAR. This is just part of recruiting. Regardless of how we feel about that in general, I'm just saying it's the same thing. With that said, yes it did surprise me. I just assumed the Brewers and every other team were doing this just to be patriotic, not getting paid to be so.
  3. Yea, in today's NBA you need a guy who can anything with ball in hand at the end of games. It doesn't necessarily need to be a PG, but it usually is. Someone who can shoot the 3, drive and breakdown the defense, drive the lane and draw a foul. Middleton has proven the ability to make big shots at the end of games, but he's not a "here's the ball, operate for 4 minutes" type of player. Parker will never be that guy either. Giannis is the only one who can get to that point if his shooting continues to improve, gets more respect from refs to get fouls called, etc. Beyond that, to get to the next level they need to rebound better. Much better.
  4. Again, I don't think there's any chance at all this happens. But all three would get plenty of minutes. It would mean they would play big more often, with 2 of those 3 on the court together. That would mean Jabari would play some 3 at times, which he can do depending on who the opposing team has on the floor. Plus, they could always trade Monroe at some point for a PG, which would solve that need too. I do like Monroe, but wouldn't it be great to have a complete PG, Giannis, Middleton, Parker, then two rim protectors/ rebounders in Henson/ Whiteside?
  5. I don't know, why do teams want more than one shooter? Having more of something positive is not a bad way to go. What have the Bucks been able to hang their hat on the last couple years? Length. Defense. Shot blocking. Whiteside would bring that to the table. Everyone is trying to be like the Warriors now. Play small, shoot a ton of 3s, etc. The Bucks aren't going to win games or playoff series that way. But they CAN win playoff series by being an outstanding defensive team. They've gotten away from that. By the way, I brought up Whiteside as someone I would like to have, I don't in any way expect that to happen.
  6. They could sign Conley and Whiteside next year- those are the guys on my wish list. But....that won't happen either.
  7. Hawks aren't trading Teague. They had their chance to let him go, and re-signed him. They're playing him together a lot with Schroeder and that's working for them. Ennis? Anything is possible but I just don't see it. Copeland always shoots like that. Like a lot of shooters, he streaky. Like I said earlier, really no reason for him to be in the rotation once Jabari is back full time, Henson is back, etc. They barely pulled off wins against two horrible teams, but that's ok for now. They just can't get off to a Brewer-esque type of start, and wait for everyone to get back healthy. Lots of things not to like so far, but it's early. By the way, I guess I didn't know what to expect from Jabari but wow he really struggled. Now my expectations are in check at least, I look at it as whatever you get out of him this season is a bonus.
  8. If/when everyone is healthy, Inglis, Ennis, Copeland, Plumlee, and Vaughn shouldn't be in the rotation. They can each get some minutes every once in a while, but none of those guys should get minutes every night. Copeland is just horrible on defense, Plumlee you can use here and there when another big body is needed, and the other three just aren't ready. Vasquez shot is broke right now, so his minutes should be limited too until he gets that worked out. A Vasquez who can't shoot is basically the basketball equivalent of Yuni.
  9. I don't mind JOB or Plumley. (Inglis shouldn't be playing yet.) They are cheap, and one of them has upside at least. JOB has a nice little jumper, and is ok at defense and rebounding. Thing is, when either is on the court they better be the 5th best player out there. Due to injuries, there have been too many line-ups of Bayless, Vasquez, Plumley, JOB, and Middleton. (or something similarly crappy.) Like you, I thought this team was built on being able to switch on defense, and that concept is dying a slow death. Also, the Bucks did a really good job of trapping then running the shooter off the line when it got kicked out. This year they're a second or two late on doing that. It really is all the big things and small things not going right so far. In the meantime, they need to let Giannis and Monroe take over on the offensive end. Against Toronto for example, Monroe only had 7 shots. That can't happen. Giannis didn't have too many more than that.
  10. I really haven't agreed with any of the moves they've made since (and including) when they traded Knight for MCW. MCW is horrible. He can't shoot, dribble, or pass. Three pretty important job responsibilities for a PG. I didn't want them to sign Middleton to a big contract. He is a textbook case of a guy propped up by the new NBA advanced stats. His contract isn't horrible, but they would have been much better over paying Brandon Knight. I hated the Vasquez trade, hated the Copeland signing, and really not thrilled about Monroe either. I also wanted Portis over Vaughn in the draft, we'll see how that shakes out. Good news is, any/all of these things can be corrected. It's not like there are any contracts here that are too tough to move. But what really worries me is I don't understand what kind of team they're trying to build here. They should continue to build on defense and length, but I fear they believe hey can copy-cat Golden State like everyone else. Problem is, last time I checked they don't have Steph Curry on the roster. These things always change, and instead of chasing what other teams are doing now, build your own identity and make other teams adjust to YOU.
  11. Right, and not to mention Copeland and Vasquez who will get a lot of minutes apparently. Both are bad defensive players. That's why this off-season was puzzling to me. I wanted to build on their strengths, while instead they have tried to plug their weakness- shooting, and really didn't address that very well anyhow. Monroe is fine, I will take his offense and rebounding for what he gives up defensively. But my master plan would have been to keep adding length, and players who can play defense. At some point a year or two from now if you still need a shooter or two, then go out and get them.
  12. Getting Giannis back will definitely help the defense, but Parker won't. I still see this defense taking a step back, which was their identity last year and the main reason they took such a big jump. And they continue to have way too many unforced turnovers, and it's not just MCW.
  13. Two stats I find interesting: 7 of the top 10 are in the high minors. In the past, list has been weighted more towards the low minors. 14 pitchers, 12 position players. Much more even compare to recent polls, where it was weighted more heavily with pitchers.
  14. How are they different? They're not. The Brewers last contending team was built through the draft. Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hart, Lucroy, Yo, etc. Then they added a couple vets to try to put them over the top. Very similar to what the Astros and Cubs have done this year. But the Brewers are not in the same position they were last time around. You can't just add a Greinke and a bat to this roster and compete next year. There is no reason they shouldn't try hard to move Lucroy and Braun during the hot stove league.
  15. I want to believe in the over. New owners, new uniforms, new court, soon to be new arena. So much excitement. Yet, I look at the moves they made and I'm not sure I like it. They replaced three good defensive players with three bad defensive players. Defense is their identity, and it seems they're getting away from that a little. I have faith Kidd and his staff can make it work, but I need to see it. Plus, they came out of nowhere last season. This year they're not going to sneak up on anyone. Finally, it is really tough to win with defense year after year when you can't shoot, turn the ball over a ton, and foul too much. I know that makes it sound like I expect them to win only 15 games again, but that's not what I'm saying. I think the ceiling is the #2 seed, and the floor is not making the playoffs with 38-40 wins. If I had to guess, I would say 42 wins.
  16. That's why I'm 50/50 on whether I like the current way they seed, or go according to record. I really believe in the importance of divisions. Yet, it just doesn't seem to make sense that a 81-81 or even a 79-83 team could theoretically win a division and be a #3 seed, while a WC team with a much better record has to play a one game playoff. But...I can live with that. I think the one game playoff is another issue altogether. Yes, it does add excitement- no doubt. There just seems to be something "wrong" with it. Some of you have said no system will never be completely fair. That's true. Sample size will always be too small in any playoff series. But one game? That's about who has the better ace, and that's it. All I'm saying is there's plenty of time in the schedule for a 3 game WC series, so why not do it.
  17. You already know the answer. Money. No way would they even consider shrinking the season.

  19. I've gone back and forth, but after reading everyone's responses, this is where I am. I am a big believer in maintaining the integrity of divisions, it really helps create and continue rivalries. And division winners are still rewarded, someone could win 80 games and still be in the playoffs, as it should be. But when you can have a WC team with 100 wins, and a division winner with 80, I just think it's best to seed them accordingly. Sure, they all the know the rules going in- but that has nothing to do with coming up with the best system. As far as 1 game vs 3, I do think there could be time to condense all the playoff series and have plenty of time for two extra games. These guys are used to paying every day. Plus, as someone said, there's absolutely no reason to have 3 days off before playoffs start.
  20. At least 90%. Probably closer to 98% I would also say 90% of evaluating coaches is subjective. Very difficult to say coach x is a "bad" coach or "good" coach. It's almost never that simple. But sometimes there's nothing to lose by making some changes, and this one of those times.
  21. In my opinion, Davies, Cravy would no longer be on prospect list. Both had a number of starts, not just September call-ups.
  22. It's a good thing to be on the same page, same philosophy. It gets interesting when decisions actually need to be made, and that's when consensus is more of a problem than a positive. Add CC to the mix, and the danger is having at least four people involved in the decision making tree. Not saying this whole arrangement is doomed or anything, but something they need to get a handle on. Who makes the decisions? Mark A's answer would be Stearns, but is it really?
  23. I have mixed thoughts. Long time coming for Kranitz, and I don't mind the wider housecleaning. Then again, I wonder as long as you're cleaning house to this degree, just clean out everyone (including CC) and start fresh. But we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, and if Stearns honestly wants CC, that's fine by me for another year. But I hope it isn't just because Melvin gave CC his blessing before he stepped down and Stearns has no control over it.
  24. Entering the season yes, but he will be 30 by the end of it. Still, I agree, it's not like he's over the hill. But if I'm a GM I'm wondering if 2015 was an anomaly or closer to the hitter Lucroy will be next year and future years. Yes, he was injured, but he hasn't shown any power at all and his OBP isn't that great even since he has returned from injury. Plus, he just had a concussion, and I would wonder how long can he (or wants to) stay behind the plate. I know he hasn't indicated otherwise, but you have to be aware of that possibility at least. But that argument aside, there's still the lack of hitting this year that would concern me. All it takes is one team that really wants him though....
  25. Long John Henson signed for 4 more years, good contract. Every great team needs a guy like Henson.
