  1. Yea, that started in other sports. The "Milwaukee Basketball" shirts have been around for a few years now.
  2. As the years have gone by, I have moved to Hefeweizen style more than anything else. I have tried many Hefes and Weiss from WI breweries and brew pubs, and have yet to find anything close to best of the German Hefes and Belgium Witbier brands. Any recommendations?
  3. The good ones are on traveling teams, yes. But some of these communities are very good at building LLWS caliber teams, traveling teams season is at a different time. Remember, baseball is a 12 month sport in much of the country. (And yes, don't get me started on traveling sports teams!)
  4. Juan Nieves part 28. Simply amazing how many Brewer pitchers have gone down with injuries over the years- most before they ever made it to MLB. TJ or not, at least there's hope these days.
  5. I don't know how you can say that, as if it's nothing. There is no value in having anyone 30+ years old on the roster right now. And yes, we'll see how the young arms do before we know for sure how good this trade was. By the same token, we'll see how good Fiers is next year and the year after as well.
  6. What happened to Tyrone Perry? Haven't seen his name in the box scores for quite a while now...
  7. I don't think the closer role qualifies as "being discarded." At some point (maybe soon) we could very well have multiple options for the rotation. Davies, Suter, Thornburg (maybe), Smith (maybe), Lopez, Hader, Wagner, Houser, etc. I get it, not all these guys will pan out. All I'm saying is if 2-3 of these guys are the real deal, at some point you need to find spots for people. Peralta FB and slider combo seem to be perfect for a closer. Not saying he stinks, he's done as a starter, etc. Just something that could make a lot of sense down the road in 2017.
  8. Well, that's part of what worries me. If a lot of his success depends on his ultra-quick work rate, deceptive delivery, he can get through MLB line-ups once or twice, but eventually they will settle in and get used to it. You're left with a lefty throwing an 88 mph FB with nothing real special to go along with it.
  9. The problem is, they could be competitive for half a season. Closer to the 2014 season. Some guys have a hot 1st half, elevate their record, and there's your fool's gold. Unlike some, I don't want them to be horrible again next year just to get a another top 5 draft pick. I would love for them to win, say 77-78 games. That would tell me the young starters performed very well, and at least a couple of the young position players really hit well (Santana, Davis, Scooter, Segura, etc.) To me, that's the best of both worlds. The team already starts improving next year, while still adding more prospects for Lind, Lucroy, maybe Braun, KRod, etc.
  10. Maybe it would make sense to make him the closer at some point? His stuff would seem to work well in that role?
  11. I'm sorry, I'm just not sold. Same reason I'm not sold on Ortega- they don't strike people out. If you can't over-power or fool hitters more often in the minors, that usually does not translate well to MLB. It's not impossible, and I hope I'm wrong. Because if he can stick in the rotation, it would be great to have a lefty. Not only that, you would now have two pitchers in the 2016 rotation that we never would have imagined earlier this year- with the higher ceiling guys (Lopez, Hader, etc.) coming up right behind.
  12. Reilly, they could be competitive if all those guys reached the numbers you suggest. I think it's a stretch for some of those guys to reach those numbers, and almost impossible for ALL of them to do so- which is what it would take to be .500ish. With that said, it wouldn't shock me. I'm not convinced Mark A is on board for a true rebuild, and the trade for Davies makes me nervous that he still wants to win now. I think they wanted a SP capable of joining the rotation next year, when that shouldn't have mattered in the least. Maybe it was never offered, but I would much rather have a higher ceiling guy or two at A or A+. (D Williams/ Ponce types) for Parra rather than a "solid" #5 type of starter who is almost ready in Davies. Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but it just feels like Mark A has not given up on 2016.
  13. I think promoting these kids as stars is not good for them, but who knows. It's just odd that they're on national TV, Sportscenter, etc. being hyped up as stars. That can't be good when reality sets in after it's all over. Especially for the kids that make crucial errors, bad pitching performance, etc. They just lost a game and got their team kicked out of the WS on Natl TV. The coach can say all he wants that we win as a team, lose as a team. Tell that to little Bobby who just had a ball bounce off his knee to let the winning run score. Sports are good for kids. Teaches them how to play as a team, listen to authority, deal with winning and losing. But when you're put on a NAtl stage, I just fear that's too much for some kids to handle.
  14. iPhone or Android? I agree, I've never had a case for any Android phone in my life, but if I had an iPhone I would get one based on what has happened to my fiancé over the years. Android. Although my son has had an Iphone for years, has never damaged one either. My daughter has had Iphones, damaged the first two she had, otterbox ever since. Wife has had both Android, now Iphones- also damages every single one of them. She's had cases but always ends up taking them off. So, I am beginning to wonder if it's a Male/Female issue.
  15. Welcome back Jake and David, see you later this week!
  16. First, how do we know we would be selling low on Lucroy? Right now, I'm sure there are teams who think he had an off year offensively and can/will bounce back. If you wait until next year, what if he has a similar year? Now his value really drops. As for Braun, there is no reason to keep him and pay him tens of millions of dollars over the next (at least) the next 3 years for nothing. Then, by the time they're ready to compete again, Braun will be past his prime. Why not pocket all that money and use it to buy a FA a few years down the road when that player will have an impact? I would trade him today for a Hader or Phillips type. Just one top prospect, that's it- along with the huge salary relief. Bottom line, I don't see it as an either/or, I would try hard to trade both of them. Add 2-3 more Top 25 prospects, with one of those being a top 5 type. Lucroy and Braun simply don't fit into a 2018 or 2019 WS run, so why pay them until then?
  17. Although I don't agree with the logic, I do understand where he's coming from. I find myself trying to explain the strategy to family and friends who don't understand (or want to understand) the "big picture" of how a small market team can compete. And not just going "all in" one year, rather being a contender for an extended period of time. They see Sexson, Sabathia, Fielder, Greinke, Gomez, Gallardo, etc. get traded or not re-signed and pick up guys they never heard of. I don't get into detail with most people, I keep it simple by saying "we're trying to do what KC, Houston, Pitt, etc. have done." Does it always work? No. Can it be done quickly? Usually not. But it is still the only way to be a true contender as a small market team. Infuse your farm system with as much talent as possible.
  18. I like the timing of the four polls, with that flexibility of the mid-season poll. I do think end of season should be done early- beginning of Oct. (Always in a hurry to do a new one when you know it will be better than the last.)
  19. Closer, but from all the comments I read, it wasn't that simple. But yes, it looks like even without Phillips, getting the other 3 instead of Wheeler/Flores is a much better deal- at least today. Partly because Houser has been better than just a run-of-the-mill decent AA pitcher.
  20. Yes, I think it was sarcasm. He doesn't want young talented players under team control for 6 years like Santana, Hader, Phillips, etc. Guessing, but I think he rather have Gomez, Lucroy, that type of player.
  21. To be fair, adding Fiers to the deal had a lot to do with the return.
  22. Yea, I can't speak to his velocity, they don't post the speed all the time this year at TRats games for some reason. The couple times I've seen him, he's looked good. Very natural, easy delivery. Appears to be pitching rather than throwing. But they are really limiting his innings. He's one of those guys where it's just too early to get real excited, but the potential is still there.
  23. I think those ratings are behind the times, for sure. And if does have a great curve he doesn't need to throw a change much.
  24. September call-up. Same with Davies. I will be shocked and disappointed if they're not both brought up then. Hopefully Reed also. Then Peterson and Schafer should never see the field again.
  25. Problem with that is he was every bit as inconsistent before the injury. (If by inconsistent you mean borderline crappy.)
