  1. HRs and lasers off the wall are not ground balls. Both are up this year for Wily.
  2. Yea, I really believe a SP needs to have an off-speed pitch (whether it be a change or curve) to go along with FB/Slider.
  3. So basically hitters are just sitting on the FB? Over-simplifying it I know, but that's what it sounds like.
  4. Knock on wood moment. I have never had a case for my cell phones, and have never damaged one. I just don't like any extra bulk. I have dropped them plenty of times, just never damaged them beyond a knick here or there. By the way, bummer that belt clips are not in style anymore- that was really convenient.
  5. Thanks Reilly, yea it didn't seem like his velo was down much. I can't believe 1 MPH on his FB is the reason for his struggles. If I had to guess, he either is not locating his FB, or he can't throw secondary pitches for strikes enough. Like you said, interested to see what others have to say.
  6. Anyone have a theory why Peralta is struggling this year after a really solid season in 2014? I know he had an injury, but he has struggled all season. Is his velocity down? Not locating?
  7. I almost ranked Lopez #1 prospect last time we had the poll. Simply because a SP that could be a top of the rotation guy is more valuable than a SS (in my opinion.) But I wanted to wait until I saw a full season from him. Will still be a close call for me next poll.
  8. Yes, that time is when a pitcher is AB, and the count is 3-0.
  9. September call-ups are soon enough, no need to push it a couple weeks before then.
  10. I'm concerned, but not in panic mode or anything. I like to see top prospects dominate the level they're in, all the way up the system. Braun, Fielder, Weeks, etc. all did that. It just has that "can't miss" feel when you see that out of a prospect. But again, he's hitting, he's taking walks, hopefully we'll see a power surge at the end of the year yet.
  11. I understand that, but a course used for major should not be a pitch and putt with no wind. They need to make it tougher, and if the winds are really gusty, they can always make the course a llittle easier that given day with pin placements, moving up the tee box, etc.
  12. I would have asked the obvious question. Do you have a stop sign?
  13. That's the beauty of baseball, stats mean something. With Sam, other than those that really understand NFL, people couldn't understand why a guy with so many sacks in college wasn't a fit for the NFL.
  14. Roache is a guy that hasn't been mentioned much, and appears to be putting it all together. All the SP you mention (throw in the 3 SP we just got in trades also) that seem to be middle of the rotation guys won't turn out that way. True. But it's also true that with the sheer number of guys that fit that profile, it's also possible 1 or 2 of them can develop into top of the rotation starters too.
  15. I don't think he needed to keep it to himself. He also didn't need to make a public announcement about it. He wanted to do so, fine, but he didn't need to. Some of his teammates already knew, many others figured he was gay. Sounds like nobody cared, so why not leave it at that? That's my only point in all this. 20 year olds don't care about this stuff anymore, or 99% of them anyhow.
  16. This is also why you don't pay attention to position when making trades for minor leaguers. You want the best possible talent in return, and figure the rest out later. If one day we have a big problem with 6 ultra-talented OFs ready to play every day in MLB, I'll deal with that problem.
  17. Oops, I meant Clark not Phillips (in terms of being too far away.) As far as Braun goes, things can change quickly. Look at the 1B/3B situation a few years ago. It looked like they were loaded there, and every single player either got injured or crapped out. Even today we talk about SS depth, but Arcia is still the only one on the same track he has at the beginning of the season. Sure, there is OF depth in the system, but that still needs to be played out. Don't get me wrong, I would still trade Braun in a heartbeat. But if you can't find a fair deal and he stays, not the end of the world. Plus, he can still be move to 1B. In fact, if he does stay I can almost guarantee that's what they do with him- just makes too much sense.
  18. I doubt it. As others have said, this is a minor league player in Helena playing for a Brewers affiliate. If he played for a Yankees or Red Sox affiliate out on the East Coast somewhere, it would be a huge story.
  19. Lara, Gatewood, Harrison, and Phillips are so far off that I wouldn't even consider slotting them into the line-up at some future date. Yes, they all have talent, but even Coulter hasn't proven he'll make it all the way to MLB. I agree, it's fun to think about the line-up down the road a few years if these guys all reach their ceilings.
  20. Other than our beloved Brewers, Brevard is a big (unpleasant) surprise. Sure Roache got promoted, but 20 under .500? I expected much better.
  21. The course did look beautiful, just far too easy for a major. Sure, some holes look like Lake Mich is in play, but its not. 867,000 bunkers but almost none of them in play. Greens very manageable. Don't get me wrong, I rather have that than tricking up a course just to make it tougher. WS looks like a links cpurse, but its not. I think they need to put more bunkers in play, easy enough to do with still being true to the design. Yes, I know winds weren't gusting much, but still needs to be a bigger challenge.
  22. Good news is, they will actually have money to spend on a FA position player or two- especially if they can find a way to trade Braun. If they can develop their own young pitching staff, which doesn't look far-fetched at this point, it should be relatively easy to find a position player or two to plug in when the time is right.
  23. You may not like it, I may not like it, but people are entitled to their beliefs- religious or otherwise. I know people who think like this, and they don't "hate." They simply don't believe in the lifestyle, they believe it's a choice, etc. We can all say that's stupid, old-fashioned, whatever, but they have a right to believe what they want to believe. Maybe. Probably. But if he just let it be known he's gay in a casual conversation with teammates, I would expect some shrugging of shoulders, maybe some would be surprised, but that's about it. Because again, I guarantee there have been other gay players who didn't hide it, or proclaim it either. Never became a media story, everyone just kept on doing what they're doing.
  24. I guess I don't understand why it's necessary to make an official statement about your sexuality. If you want to tell the guys on the team you're gay, fine. (My guess is this was probably not a secret anyhow, considering how much time these guys spend with each other.) But either way, I don't know why there needs to be a big announcement. We all know he isn't the first gay player, or even the first that was widely known by his teammates (and probably the league.) But we never heard about it. Why? Almost nobody cares anymore. Maybe a player here and there had issues with it, but they deal with it. Maybe there's even some ribbing that goes on, but players will find anything to tease their teammates about. I guess my point is this. I thought we were beyond having to "officially" come out of the closet. Just keep your personal life personal, if anybody asks you can either answer the question or not. Then get on with it. Because honestly, I'm guessing 90% of fans feel the same way I do, which is I rather have a gay player that hits .900 rather than a straight player that hits .600. Finally, if a player DOES have a problem with it that is their right. As long as they treat Denson with respect, a player shouldn't have to go to some sort of sensitivity training if they don't agree.
