  1. I hate all replay, but the way it's been done so far this year could be worse. That's the best you'll get out of me.
  2. By the way, nothing says they can't trade Lohse after this season if they want to add Thornburg or Nelson to the rotation.
  3. A big fastball and a nice change-up, he definitely has closer stuff. Maybe he eases into that role this year already, or next. He is still young, and can still be a part of the rotation at some point between now and 2016.
  4. We all have our own views about Braun, and I don't think we'll change each other's mind. For me, I forgive him. Who am I NOT to forgive him? At the same time, I do look at him differently. If I was there opening day, I wouldn't have joined the standing o. Im happy when he does something on the field that helps the Brewers, but I'm not really cheering for him. At least not yet. And yea, I'm weird because I do cheer for Rickie. Always liked the guy, and I'm really pulling for him. (Not that I wouldn't rejoice the minute he's traded.)
  5. Sometimes it's very easy to forget there is almost no science to support how a pitcher needs to be stretched out, number of pitches in an outing, innings per year, etc. Every body is different, and reacts differently. Somehow 100 pitches has become a magic number, with nothing to support it. But we like round numbers.
  6. For no valid reason whatsoever, of all starters this year Garza is the one I'm nervous about before each start. I think it's because I'm so used to being nervous about at least one starter, my subconscious mind has selected Garza.
  7. I hate replay. Do away with all of it, in all sports. Here's why: 1) Not everything is reviewable. Balls/strikes have a bigger effect on a game than anything else, yet that is not reviewed. Instead we're supposed to get all worked-up over a saft/out call at 1B, and whther the manager should have reviewed it. Meanwhile, the HP umpire is wildly inconsistent and forces a pitcher to have ten 2-1 counts, instead of 1-2 counts. The cumaltive effect of that is far greater than any single play. Football, same thing. PI calls are huge, but not reviewable. In college football, the officials can completely botch the end of the game (See Wisc/AZ State) but they review an out of bounds call in the 1st qtr. In college basketball we stop the game for 5 minutes to try to jusge if someone intentially elbowed someone in the face, but don't review basket interference. 2) The calls that do get reviewed are still often wrong. So what's the point? 3) Most of all though, it sucks the enjoyment out of the game. Sports is about moments. Sudden moments that cause jubilation or heartbreak. That is being taken away from us. Big TD to win the game? Hold on, don't get excited...wait for the review. Ok....after 5 minutes....NOW you can be excited. I hate that. Hey....what a spectacular throw from Braun to gun someone at home. Maybe not....let's wait and see. Will it get challenged? Will it hold up? That's not sports. Turn on ESPN or MLB Network, and what are they talking about? What was challenged today. Why it was challenged, was it a good use of challenge, did they reverse it, should they have reversed it? Yuck. Sports are played by humans and should be officiated by them. Mistakes will be made, and as fans we can debate those calls. Heck, has anything even changed in that regard the more replay is used anyhow? There's no turning back now, but I long for the day already when something happened and you had an immediate reaction without immediately thinking about whther that play will stand or not.
  8. I work with people all over the country. Generally speaking, fans of other teams have the same view of the Brewers as the national media does at any point in time.
  9. I would never throw a ball back. Some of you may be too young to know this, but that is a tradition that started at Wrigley. And there's no way I'm carrying on any tradition that is Scrubs-related.
  10. Sounds like Taylor will be back. His beef was with Buzz, and now that he's gone sounds like he's staying. Maybe there's a Plumley we don't know about that will land in Milwaukee next year ; )
  11. Yes according to MLB. Seems impossible that they may be a little less than objective? Reminds me of when we graded our own papers in grade school. Then again MLB was right when they said PEDs weren't a problem.
  12. I mostly agree. I have no problem with establishing roles, but they don't need to be rigid roles. I've already seen several examples of RR basically forcing himself to use several relievers just so they can fit into their roles. Just today against Philly they have a comfortable lead and he blows through 4 relievers. That's just stupid. I get Henderson, he needed an inning. But there's no way he needed Duke, Smith and Kintzler to all pitch in a 10-4 game. I look at it this way too. Every reliever is going to have a bad outing from time to time. If you keep trotting out 4+ relievers every game you are increasing the odds that one of them will be off and blow the game for you.
  13. I guess I have too many other issues with RR to get worked up over how he manages challenges. Something tells me if there was a bad call in the bottom of the 7th, and RR already used his challenge on the Segura play, many of you would be all over him for that. (And yes, Segura was obviously out. Sometimes it's close, this one was not.)
  14. Cohen is coming for sure, and it sounds like everyone on the current roster is coming back. That's apretty good start for Wojo. Ahmed Hill would be a big loss, but I expected more collateral damage than that, so I can live with it. And that's not even a done deal, he could still be coming to MU.
  15. Don't you think Braun went to specialists for advice? Some of you make it sound like it was the Brewers medical staff who made the decision. Not one of us knows if it was wise or not to have the surgery. Or maybe one of you saw his x-rays and considered the many times you've done this procedure?
  16. Curious about what you've heard. From what I've read/heard Steve Taylor and JuJuan Johnson may not be back. In the case of Johnson, grades may be part of that as well. As far as recruits, sounds like the kid from GA (Hill) is still coming. Cohen is completely up in the air, don't know about the others. For 2015, Noskowiak is up in the air as well. Go Bucky! I have a feeling this won't be a close game. Either KY will dominate with their length and athleticism and continue to knock down 3s, or our Badgers will shoot well, equalize the boards, and frustrate KY on defense. No idea which will happen, I just see one team or the other controlling the game.
  17. That reminds me, I want to re-watch Curb again from the beginning. It's been a long time since I've seen the first 3 seasons. Not everybody's cup of tea (my wife doesn't like it) but it's right down my humnor alley. Agree with you on Big Bang, I know so many people who love that show, and I just don't think it's funny at all. Louie is finally coming out with a new season in May. It's not near as good as his stand-up, but funny enough to watch.
  18. That's what pens are for. I go through 2 or 3 a week on average.
  19. This is something I think (hope) Wojo will change in recruiting. I don't get the sense that Buzz, while a really good recruiter, ever put much thought into building a team. He just wanted to attract the best talent he could get. I would rather have a guy who may be down the chart a bit, but fills a need. Like a shooter, big man, etc. And no, JuJuan Johnson is not a good outside shooter, but he may not be back anyhow. He's a slasher, and I think a pretty good player who could improve. Mayo and Duane Wilson can definitely shoot, as can Sandy Cohen if he decides to come. As far as an "experienced staff" meh. Good coaches are good coaches regardless of age or experience.
  20. Don't know if you have HBO (I don't) but they're coming out with a series soon called "Silicon Valley" and it sounds like an Office Space/ The Office type of show. Modern Family, The Middle, and Parks & Rec are the only comedies I watch.
  21. My guess is Bennett is smart enough to see the big picture. He's young, and why make a lateral move to MU? Going from Wash St. to VA was a step up. His next move could be Wisc, or a top shelf program like North Carolina, Kansas, Syracuse, etc. I agree with rwa, my guess is Wojo will be a really good basketball coach, and I think that's important for a team that (for the most part) will have guys there for all 4 years. If he can bring that, and be more or less similar to Buzz in recruiting that would make this a really good move. As I've said before though, he'll need to save the freshman class from this year and the incoming commits for next year- that's not going to be easy at all.
  22. Bennett just won the ACC reg season and tourney, and was a #1 seed. Why in the world would he leave a team that has arrived in the ACC for a job in a lower level conference? It would have to be ONLY about the money, and Bennett isn't like that.
  23. MU already has t0p tier facilities and a budget higher than just about anybody for assistant coaches. Sure it would be nice to get Bennett or someone like that but it's not realistic. Would have been nice if Wiggins and Embiid went to MU- same issue really. The trick is to find someone who is about to become an elite coach. Is that Wojo? No idea but we shall see. My guess is he's a better coach than Buzz, but is he as good or better at recruiting? That remains to be seen. Will be very interesting to see what players transfer, and what happens to the commits for 2014.
