  1. I think that's what the administration has done though, that's always been the message. They used to have a press conf every day, for weeks, stressing how serious it is and what people should do. At the same time, it's important to be positive, to strive for reopening. That's a tough needle to thread. Trump and Evers have both tried to thread that needle, albeit their style of communicating is let's jyst say a tad different.
  2. Basic science changes by the day. Now the CDC modified their position on airborne spread yet again. Spreading from bars is also not science, it's theory. Kids gather together at college anywhere, everywhere. Equating herd mentality with flat earthers is not being intellectually honest. Borderline being unnecessarily argumentative. I won't post it again, but gighly tespected people at Stanford, Yale, and elsewhere have laid out the case for herd immunity. Nobody knows for sure what would work best.
  3. Bars causing spikes makes sense when you think about it, but has this even been proven in Wisconsin or elsewhere? I'm not doubting it, just interested if there's been anything to back up the theory. Either way, that's just the way it is. This could go on for another year, or longer, regardless of what Trump/Biden or Evers do. By then every bar, restaurant, and lots of other businesses will be out of business. That just can't happen. Isolate the at risk population, otherwise open it all up 100%. Even though case count hasn't gone down, deaths have- drastically. In fact, there's plenty of evidence to support herd immunity is really the only way to end this quickly. We can't hide in the corner for two years, for a whole lot of reasons.
  4. That sounds like a lot of running, but it shakes out to 3 miles a day. Don't get me wrong, way more than I've done. But if we're talkjng strictly weight loss, it's not just miles. Its running at fast pace for an hour or more.
  5. When talking about weight loss, specifically, a couple things to keep in mind: Key is to eat at 500 calorie deficit every day. Google TDEE calculator to learn more. Exercise and fasting can both help a bit, but it all comes down to calorie intake. I've read a lot about this, and consensus is around 80- 90% of weight loss comes from limiting calories. Unless you run a LOT. Fasting is just one very effective way to reduce calories. Type of food doesn't matter either, you could eat nothingbut doritos and skittles. Secondly, you can't target weight/fat loss. You can do 5,000 situps a day, it won't help you lose weight in your gut. As you lose weight, it comes off where it comes off. That's mostly genetics. FWIW I've lost 47 pounds during covid, starting from 225. Still drink a pretty healthy amount of beer during weekends, still have pizza, fried chicken, etc. Working out, sure. But I think the big things have been cutting the size of my lunch in half, and trying to limit night time snacks.
  6. Yes, but that's ignoring the fact there's a bunch of other teams who can put together a much better package. Better players, and more importantly better draft picks. If you're Washington, you want Bledsoe and some nebulous 1st round picks down the road that will likely never be lottery picks?
  7. I would love Beal, but I have to believe they'll get 10 better offers than that. If those 1st round picks were lottery picks, sure, but they're not.
  8. Bledsoe you expect to be trash. Middleton is the dissapointing one, just awful.
  9. Regarding Bud, depends what Giannis wants. I mean, Bud should be gone. Dame thing happened in ATL, now here twice. And in magnificent choking style both times. But if Giannis wants him, like he wanted Middleton, Bud stays. Here's the problem. Bud or no Bud, how do they improve the roster with a legit difference maker? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure they're locked in with who who they do to cap, current contracts, etc.
  10. Why don't fans understand the smallest market in MLB has to take fliers on a group of players every year? Many don't work out, dfa, move on to the next. This is the price for making a run twice in recent years, including one year where they gave away a ton of assets. Yet, here we are, roster filled with a lot of mediocrity and they're still right there in the hunt.
  11. It would be ironic. He wanted Middleton and everyone else back, then trurn around and say sorry you guys suck I'm outta here. Especially ironic when you consider he's part of the reason they're losing.
  12. Maybe, but nobody else semms to have lost cohesion. Plus, this is the same crap that happened last year. Put some pressure on them, and they fold. I have always thought choking is an overused word in sports, but they choked last year and they're choking again. When you're so tight you can't even pass the ball cleanly for long stretches of time, the pressure got to you. Or have countless crazy shots that miss everything. You can just see the confidence Miami has, heck even the Magic.
  13. They can win the series, but I have lost all hope that they can win it all.
  14. The way Bledsoe has played has inspired confidence..a little. He's so strong and long that he should be able to finish at the basket like he has. And the Heat had been nailing 3's. But everytime we get a little run going, the Heat seem to just suck all the momentum out of the Bucks. Turnovers suck all the momentum.
  15. Jimmy Butler just going off in the 4th quarter with Wes Matthews sitting on the bench was maddening.
  16. Giannis is a 2 time MVP, but hes just not a dominate a series type of player.
  17. BF.net summarized: "What has Stearns done lately, the farm is horrible." Stearns trades for upside arms to bolster the minors. "Why is Stearns trading a bullpen arm for prospects!?!"
  18. Yea, I'm used to ignoring political/social opinions from actors, as an example. Otherwise I wouldn't with many movies or TV series. But that's all off-screen, I wouldn't watch a movie about it. I think that's where I draw the line with athletes. They should be free to have any opinion they want on politics or anything else, and shout it from the roof tops. Just not on game day. Honestly, calling off the game bothers me less than BLM plastered all over the place and replacing names with bumper sticker slogans. Now, if they take it one step further with the "America sucks" rhetoric that is becoming more common, that's my line in the sand.
  19. It would make sense, but sense has nothing to do with it. The cops involved in the Floyd case were arrested quickly, and that didn't stop the carnage. If we could all have a reasoned discussion about policing reform as a priority, it would get done. But this is about so many more things than improving policing.
  20. Does Giannis still get DPOY if the season isn't even completed?
  21. That's why testing and better therapeutics will be the trifecta, and hopefully we'll have all 3 in place within the next couple months. There are really good therapeutics now for specific application such as antibodies, hydroxychloroquine, etc, but what we really need are better therapeutics for patients that are in more critical condition.
  22. Yea, the problem is this time around it's not just the anti-vaccine crowd, There will be a percentage of people who will think it's rushed and unsafe/ ineffective. So if/when the vaccine does get approved, they're going to need to have Trump, Biden, Pelosi, Fauci...a bunch of them come together and all take the vaccine united together.
  23. Very good summary Monty. I think it's clear Mark A doesn't have a firm salary set every season. There is a range, and if the right opportunity presents itself (Cain, extending Yelich) he will spend more money. Instead of a knock on Stearns, it's actually pretty amazing he was able to get both Grandal and Moose on one year deals last year.
