  1. A co-worker's daughter goes to Purdue and mentioned they would do this. I thought it was a brilliant idea. Still be able to meet for labs, but at the tail end of the year (between Thanksgiving and Christmas), you avoid recontaminating all the family exposures and implement the already-tested school from home for a month. Should save students some money also. That's all well and good, but how will the laundry get done?
  2. The weed not being addictive thing has pretty much been debunked....people can be addicted. Anecdotally, I know more people that NEED weed than alcohol. The difference is that it doesn't affect their lives and personal relationships as much. I think it's like 1 in 10 get addicted (something like that). And it makes sense that people need weed as many use it like a daily medication. Nobody knows % of addiction. If it is 10%, that's a lot of stoners addicted. And it's for "medication" rigggght. Everyone I've known that's addicted from college to present were not exactly using it medicinally. Anti-marijuanna is not a sexy field of study, so there's not a lot of thorough studies on addiction and for that matter harm that comes from regular use. Until there's a lot more research done, I'm going to go with my current assumption. When you ask a stone a question and it takes 5 minutes to respond, it's probably not too good for the ol' thinking machine.
  3. I have a tough time understanding this line of thinking. Whether they have any sort of season this year will likely have no bearing on next year, so why not play in 2020? The game being played on the field is still gonna be baseball, and any baseball this summer would be better than none in my opinion. MLB Lite is better than none in your opinion, and that's the case for a lot of people. I rather have none, and at this point just cancel the NBA season too. It's really just trying to come up with anything and call it a legitimate season/result, and it's just not. Like I said, I'm sure I'll try to watch anyhow. And it would be exciting if the Brewers kept advancing. Yet it would come with this weird experience and asterisk in the background, and that's what bothers me. Best analogy, we went out to a restaurant a couple weeks back, that had limited seating. Nobody at the bar, only 25% of tables used. Yes, it was technically dining out but without the atmosphere it wasn't the same. Felt mote like being fed than dining out, and I'm afraid that's what any MLB season will fee like this year. The purpose of any sport is to entertain, not just create results. Watching my team play in a generic empty stadium is not very entertaining.
  4. Just cancel the season. I've seen parts of Bundesliga matches since they started play again. I don't want to watch MLB in generic stadiums with no fans, playing only a 1/3 of the schedule. Will I? Sure, but it will be really weird and if the Brewers win a WS this way both the journey and end result won't be as satisfying for me. I'll take it, but I woud rather just punt on this season and win it next year.
  5. No, I don't sauce periodically, it doesn't penetrate the ribs anyhow. Just a nice glaze at the very end when they're done. Crank up the heat and let the sauce sizzle for a few minutes.
  6. Yea, there's a saying around my house when I'm smoking. The meat tells me when it's done. Start early, you can always slow it down. Even hold it in a cooler, they'll stay hot a long time. But you have to have a thermometer to know your grill temp. 225-250 is where you need to be. Let em ride until they're done, I never foil.
  7. I don't know, I thought that was the whole point. Antibody treatment, other treatments, vaccines...I don't think anyone was waiting for those things to be available to 5 billion people any time soon, if ever. I just figured whenever we discuss this, it's assumed we're talking about the groups you mentioned.
  8. I'm confused as to why someone with a background in crop diseases would be consulted on respiratory disease transmission. We were hoping you or Igor would know.
  9. I fully support any means of peaceful protest and kneeling during the national anthem is something that I personally have no problem with. However, it's interesting how the media moans and groans about this politician being divisive and this statement or action being divisive, while there is no question that people kneeling during the anthem is purely a symbolic gesture and it is incredibly divisive. I don't know how it can be viewed any other way. Agree or not, there are a huge amount of people, maybe even a majority of Americans, that listen to the National Anthem and look at the flag and the first thing they think about are people who sacrificed their lives in conflicts like the Civil War and World War II. Those feeling are certainly not limited to the political left or the political right. Again, I personally have no problem with any peaceful means of protest. But I do have to question why people of these means would participate in something that is so clearly divisive in a symbolic gesture that really doesn't accomplish anything? If these high-profile individuals are motivated to make a meaningful contribution and promote real change, I think financial support for organizations like the UNCF is a far more productive action. This is a great point. We have Twitter, Instagram, ESPN... athletes have 100 ways to make their point and get their message out loud and clear. If we really are all trying to come together, this is an unnecessary divisive act. Also, there's always a lot of comments about how it's fine because they have the right to do it. One thing has nothing to do with the other. There's all kinds of things that people have the right to do, but is frowned upon by most people. Can I cough in the middle of a grocery store without covering my mouth? If my 18 year old meets a girl gets married in a week, do I just say "you have the right" and leave it at that. Best example, the confederate flag. To most black people, and a whole lot of white people they see it as a nod to racism. White people down south? They see it as southern pride, and some wave it just to stir the pot.. And some, of course, are racist. But either way, they have the right to raise that flag in their yard, or display it in their truck. Doesn't mean you have to agree they should. That's where we are with the NFL, and other sports. A lot of people will say they won't watch. For some it's just talk, they'll watch- but some won't. Ratings will tell the story. Regardless, it would be ideal if players used other forms of messaging.
  10. That behavior wouldn't be considered to be any different/ better than players kneeling.
  11. We just don't know yet, but it's not far fetched. You don't think if the hospitals were that busy, they wouldn't have used the children's hospital for overflow? Chinese govt may have contained it well back then, but eventually couldn't contain it. That's plausible.
  12. I have the impression from the media that OMG TEXAS ARIZONA GEORGIA etc are about to go into covid crisis. From the numbers you posted it doesn’t appear the case (big surprise)...although yes we’re having an uptick. To be expected with people going about their business and thousands of angry protestors completely ignoring the very social distancing guidelines they forced the country to obey. Everything doesn't have to be so extreme. Putting data out there is not saying crisis is happening. When things started opening saying "this is a risk that could lead to an increase". Is not saying "there will be a spike" so then it's a 'gotcha' if there isn't. This is all exactly how it should be being covered. We have to watch these things and see what happens. Get data, report it. There has also been plenty of reports saying how there hasn't been a noticeable uptick in many other states. It would help everyone if folks didn't rush to their corners and scream at each other. I get what you're saying, but I don't notice any screaming going on. In fact, been meaning to say this. This entire thread has flirted with political conversation, and probably has gone past flirting with it at times. Yet, I think everyone has conducted themselves appropriately, unless posts have been removed I guess. Kudos to the Mods for allowing this dialogue, as long as it stays civil.
  13. Yea, not sure where you get the "all players" part. Also, you may need to take a pass on all sports because I'm pretty sure we'll see athletes kneeling in the NBA, MLB, Olympic team, etc. Not saying I agree or disagree with your position, just pointing out this is going to be really common when sports resume again.
  14. That's another assumption that may very well not be accurate. ; )
  15. 1. Moneyball 2. Bad News Bears 3. The Sandlot Unpopular opinion, I don't think Major League aged well at all, and I never really like Field of Dreams much.
  16. I think travel will come back. Airlines, hotels, etc. will offer incredible deals if they need to get people back. We just took a vacation a couple weeks ago. Roundtrip airfare for $147. It will take a little more time for most people, but I fully expect tourism to come back.
  17. I could see outdoor seating at restaurants becoming a bigger long-term trend in WI. A lot of restaurants have started using outdoor seating, or expanded it. Maybe as people try that a few times they'll discover it's enjoyable, and it will stick long term? We'll always dine al fresco if it's nice enough outside, and notice often times most people prefer to be indoors. This may change that?
  18. Financially, I have definitely benefited from the crisis. I pulled a bunch out of the market when the S&P hit around 3,150, and another chunk around 3,300. Reinvested at the bottom. Now that S&P is back up over 3,100...yea it's been a good ride this year.
  19. Well, most people here have been wrong about their doom and gloom predictions. Big spike after the election. Big spike in GA, FL, etc. as those states opened. And oh my, what a mess in WI when we re-opened, it's going to be horrible. We could go on and on about things most here have been wrong about. Has anyone admitted they were wrong? Not that I recall. How that for hypocrisy.
  20. Great point. This can be extended to the CDC. I think often times people view CDC almost like it's one person. Of course ,it is not. They have to come out with official positions on everything, obviously. You can't announce "64% of our experts believe X, 28% believe Y, 8% believe Z." No, you come to a consensus as best you can, sprinkle in some politics and good old fashioned CYA, and make your announcement. That doesn't mean it should be dismissed out of hand. It also doesn't mean it shouldn't be questioned. There's a whole lot of Covid- related things that are not proven science yet.
  21. With all the chaos going on, it was really entertaining and uplifting to watch the Dragon launch on Saturday, and then watching them dock at the ISS yesterday. The video diriectly from NASA's feed was amazing.
  22. From April 3rd: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... cover.html "In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission." Which as you know, was a change from their original position. They lean on "new evidence" which is ridiculous. It's also contradictory since it's very easy to maintain social distancing in a grocery store. Heck, I even managed to do that before Corona.
  23. Just so I know what to look out for, what exactly is the definition of “junk science”? Is it any science? Science I agree with? Science I disagree with? science by someone who is not a scientist? Science by many people who are scientists? Great question. Junk science is "science" that does nor follow the scientific method. Commonly, it is influenced by any and all of: bias, politics, and money.
  24. And now you see why. I guess you're saying we should all wear masks then? Not sure, maybe you shouldn't wear masks like the CDC said originally. Or listen to them now and wear one. No, maybe listen to WHO and not wear one. Wait, Qdoba said I should so I guess I will.
  25. And now you see why.
