  2. Half time show has to be mainstream, and upbeat. Dave Matthews will put everyone to sleep. Like them or not, Bon Jovi and Journey would be real popular. As far as the ads go. I love the first 2 Doritos ads. Betty White...the Kia ad with the sock puppets were good. I thought Bub Light and Coke really fell down. They have a history of having real creative ads, and these were just boring/mediocre. What's interesting to me though is how millions are spent, and I would think with the intent is that people would learn something about the product, cause them to buy, get/keep their name out there, etc. This worked for Go Daddy big time after they first advertised during the SB. But that naked ad? I couldn't remember if it ws Monster, CareerBuilder, or someone else the next day, until someone told me. In fact, the #1 product that stuck in my mind the next day was the Hyundai Sonata commercials. No talking animals or naked people. But I did look back and think.....hey that's a pretty nice car for that price range. No clue if I ever buy one, I doubt it, but it left a positive impression.
  3. I guess it comes down to preferences, and our individual living situations. I'm guessing some of you are single, and that makes it easier for you live without cable. Being married with kids, it's not realistic for me to expect all of them to share a computer or two to watch movies, find certain web sites to re-broadcast TV shows, etc. Bottom line, cable allows me to put real time broadcasting through my entire house to 7 different TVs. The main 60" TV is HD, and I simply don't want to watch anything that's NOT in HD unless I'm forced to do so. (Some of the Brewer games...and that's very hard to take.) Plus, more and more games of any sport I'm interested in are on ESPN, the NFL draft, etc.
  4. I understand the studios, etc. have to protect other distribution channels, delaying the release of newer movies via live streaming on Netflix. However, even at that the choices available for streaming is woefully inadequate in my opinion. It's 2010 tomorrow, and it's hard to believe we haven't reached the point where we can view any movie or TV show we want, any time we want. Frankly, I would be willing to pay $20-$30 a month to Netflix if they could offer that.
  5. I think you should call American Express and ask for a supervisor. Whoever lowered your credit limit, raised your interest rate, etc. is a desk jockey doing something a flag in their system caught. And anyone you call is a desk jockey sticking to a script. So you need to talk to a live person that can actually make decisions. Explain that you've been a customer for 3 years and have always made payments on time. Then explain your situation. I would simply lay out that you've been a great customer, and want to continue to be a customer but you can't live with these new terms. Be friendly, jsut state the facts. Then leave it in their court to make a decision. No matter what they decide to do, I would leave the account open. If you pay in full every month, it really doesn't matter what the interest rate is. (I have no idea what the APR is on my cards.) Closing out the card would hurt your credit score, and you don't need any more of that. You should also make occasional purchases on any cards you have active, this will help your score. Just be sure to pay them off right away. Finally, see if you can get another credit card. The more credit you're given will help your score. BUT try to find one where you can be pre-approved. Because it may hurt your score if you keep applying for cards and are turned down. Hope that helps. All this is just what I've expereinced, heard, etc. I'm sure there are others here with better tips... Good luck!
  6. If you don't have a lights-out rotation, you better have a great bully. The Brewers need to maximize the wins they can get when they're leading or close after 6 innings. That's not a bad strategy.
  7. Wow, I ust be alone. I thought the whole Scott's Tots thing was hilarious. "I've made a lot of promises I couldn't keep, but this one was the most generous of all." A case of paper instead of laptop batteries would have been more fitting, but oh well. It is well within Michael's character to have made a promise like that with good intentions, then putting off the inevitable bad news. I also think the whole "Dwight making Jim look bad" angle is interesting.
  8. I agree. I had a feeling they would rush the court, and I mentioned to my wife "man I hope they don't do that." If UW- Green Bay beats Duke, hey go for it. But UW beating Duke early in the season shouldn't rise to the level of storming the court.
  9. Good ideas so far. I would pull her aside and say "It's come to my attention that you may not be working all the hours you have been reporting...." Not knowing this person, I don't know if that would "scare her into honesty" or not. Just make it clear whatever happened in the past is one thing, but it can't continue. She'll be paranoid how you know, who may have told you...etc. then either she'll be "scared straight" and stop it, or she continues doing it and you terminate her.
  10. I agree, Poli Sci to me means either Civics teacher or a job in politics. So ask yourself, do you want to be a teacher at any level? That's usually a fairly easy yes/no for most people. Are you interested in working in politics? If you are, you will need to start networking in a year or two (or even NOW) to get a job after college. Jobs like that have everything to do with "who you know." If you do go into law school, that would work too. The only other thing you could do is sales. Again, this has to do more with who you know, and representing yourself well. Most companies won't care what your major was. I work with a sales guy that has a poli sci degree and he makes around $180,ooo a yr, so anything is possible. I noticed from your other posts you're not exactly sure what you want to do, and that's ok. Most people your age don't. Heck, a lot of people in their 30s and 40s don't know what they want to do. Just expose yourself to a lot of different people and experiences. That's the best advice I have. Go to job fairs on campus. Nothing wrong with talking to employers now, in fact they would welcome your interest. That will give you a good idea on what jobs are out there, which ones you like, and what thoe employers are looking for. As always, good luck!
  11. Yea, I was warned it was awful, but rented it this weekend anyhow. Will Ferrell's "act" is starting to grow old for me, but i still think he's funny. Unfortunately, this movie was so bad I didn't even finish watching it. And that doesn't happen often. It was just put together in a really strange way. Obviously it was a comedy, yet they kept trying to make it seem "realistic" at times... just baddddd.
  12. Yea, he's 6'5" maybe 6'6". but he does have a body that should be able to bang in the Big East. I don't see him playing quicker, that's not his game. He needs to learn how to score in the post, but more importantly how to rebound and defend. Something he didn't need to know in Wisc HS ball. He was big enough to do very well without worrying about technique. Now, he really needs to learn the art of rebounding. How to pump fake and draw fouls in the post, how to take a charge...all that stuff.
  13. That's what you get when you believe what you hear from ESPN ; ) Well, technically it may be true, but with the player option he has (as described above.)
  14. I like Redd too, class act. The problem is, who would trade for Michael Redd right now? He will have to prove he is healthy AND can still shoot. Even at that he carries a huge cap number for another couple years.
  15. If I'm not mistaken, all scholarships have been filled for next year. Two more guards and a 6'6" swingman. Otule may be back, but it doesn't look like he can stay healthy. Not sure why Buzz can't get a couple quality big guys, maybe it's by choice? It's the one thing keeping them from being a legit Final Four contender, although a lot of teams can say that. Maymon just has to learn how to be aggressive without getting fouls called. Very fine line, and diffiuclt to learn in the college game. But yea, guys like Maymon, Williams, and/or Fulce need more minutes by the time the Big East starts, or this team will be gassed.
  16. Marquette and Wisconsin better be ranked in the top 25 after this week.
  17. Trading Braun in a couple years would be a way to afford signing Fielder to a long term deal. Think about it. Keep Fielder and Braun together for the next 3-4 years, and then trade Braun for a very handsome package in return. Braun would have huge value because he would have a couple years left on a very reasonable contract. Any reason why this wouldn't make sense?
  18. I agree with the first part. Redd's value would be as a guy who draws fouls and cashes in at the line. This team doesn't get to the line enough, and that would help. I don't think he's the best outside shooter. Jennings is obviously better. Plus, Ridnour, Delfino, and Ersan can shoot. I think Meeks will eventually be a more consistent shooter. It all comes down to shot selection. The 2ns half of the Nets game was a great example. Guys passing up a good shot for a better one. Redd has to fit into that. What I like most about redd coming back is that it gives the Bucks another legitimate option at the end of games. A guy who can knock down a shot or draw a foul, and has been there before. As everyone said, if he trys to be "the old Redd" and go 1-8 from behind the arc..... pound the ball out on the wing for 10 seconds...that's just not going to fly. The difference is, I don't think Skiles will stand for it. The team has already proven it can function without him, and he's not the star that drwas the fans anymore. If he doesn't play within the offense, he will get yanked.
  19. Deep in mediocrity.
  20. I think there's enough ABs for him to come up with the team in April. With Weeks coming back from injury, they can move McGehee over there every 4 or 5 games. Plus, McGehee will need days of himself. I can see Gamel getting 2 or 3 starts a week, plus PH every game. And that's IF Weeks and McGehee are 100% and still on the roster. Gamel can also DH in the AL road games. Now that Hardy and Lopez are gone, there isn't the big log jam in the IF and it should work itself out one way or another.
  21. I was. Look, obviously there are good players from Wisconsin, and there are good white players. But this latest recruiting class is awful, and seems to be slipping every year.
  22. Yea, Badger basketball games are like that too. All the old guys can afford the good sets, and they sit on their hands. Bucks games are even worse when it comes to that. Wouldn't it be nice if a small market team like the Bucks could use a rocking, obnoxiously loud Bradley Center as an even bigger home court advantage?
  23. Gamel has a spot. He will get plenty of time at 3B. They're not going to let Casey play every day with those bad knees. Plus there will be games when he plays 2B, because they'll want to give Week's wrists some rest too. Add in DHing, and Gamel will get enough ABs. I don't know if that works for 6 months, but injuries happen and often times these things get resolved on their own. But with all that said, I would still trade Gamel if the proce is right. Just like anyone else on the roster.
  24. Wow, another great recruiting year for Marquette. They didn't need quantity, but they got big time quality with Blue and Jones. This year will be interesting, we'll see if guys like Fulce and Otule, Buyks, and Maymon can step up. But they should be loaded for the 2010 season. They lose Hayward, Acker, and Cubey but add two great PGs in Blue and Cadougan. One could argue they'll have more talent that they did with the trio they had the past 4 years. They have some taller athletic guys, guards that can really play, and if Yo Mbao develops into a legit starting Center.....they really have a shot at being a great team. Now we'll see how good of a COACH Buzz really is, but man he sure has proven he can recruit. On the flip side, Bo Ryan seems to be lost in the 50s. I admire him, and obviously he's a darn good coach. But you can only go so far with "scrappy" players. What a horrific recruiting class he's bringing in for next year. With the tradition, facilities, etc. UW has they should be able to build a top flight basketball program. I don't mean to insult anyone, but you just can't make a run in the tourney with a bunch of scarappy white guys from Wisconsin.
  25. I want to believe that. But with the economy we're in, along with all the money local sports fans spent on the Brewers this summer, is there enough to go around? TV ratings may go up, but will fans actually pay for tickets? And even if they do, will the Bucks need to offer big discounts to fill the seats?
