  1. I agree. These "projections" don't mean much for pitchers when most of them have two starts left. If Sheets goes 11-3, he's in. You can't leave off an 11 game winner. I still think Hardy has a good chance to win the last man on the roster via fan vote. Brewer Nation will do our part, and to other fans his power numbers will stand out. The casual fan won;t care how many SS are already on the roster.
  2. Just win at least one game, I have modest goals. In the bif picture, the Brewers need to maintain this gap through the All-Star break. If the Cubs narrow the lead to 4-5 games or less, they become buyers and that could make it interesting.
  3. 3rd base prolem WHOAA SOLVVD keep hitn rine BRAWN i thawt he coodnt play defenze he looks like hecan towo me
  4. I should have known! By the way, what happened to Ann "80s Hair" Carroll?
  5. Anderson has not grown on me, just personal preference. I don't need Dick Vitale doing Brewer games, but a bit of personality wouldn't hurt the broadcast. With that said, you could make a drinking game out of Shcroeder's favorite line "but still in all."
  6. I agree, time to add the Parra tracker. Also, aren't we due for a WHOAA SOLVD edition of in-game threads? Misuse of caps, phonetic spelling, lack of sentence structure, punctuation, and incoherent ramblings all welcome? (Or moreso than usual?) bush evn hits 250 agnst rodrugeez the brewers shood put up sum runs tanite.
  7. Fielder and Cordero are in, little debate about that. Sheets has two starts before the rosters are selected correct? If he wins both games, I can't see an 11-3 pitcher on a division leading team being snubbed. And the guy does have street cred. With Hardy, I think it depends how hot (or not) he is between now and the time the selections are made. For example, if he hits a few more HR it will real hard for LaRussa to pass him up. You have to ask, when was the last time a guy who was 2nd in the league in HR and top 5 in RBI was passed over. Worst case scenerio, don't they still have that "fans vote for the last player" thing? If they do, Hardy is guaranteed to be on that list. Then it's our job to make sure he gets selected.
  8. I notice, as expected, a complete lack of modern comedies. There are comedies from the silent era and golden era- some have stood the test of time, some haevn't in my opinion. Yet they remain o nthe lsit because I'm sure they were important films for that era. So why aren't any modern comedies on the list? There is a whole generation of people who can identofy with movies like Caddyshack, Stripes, John Hughes flicks, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, etc. Even something like Parenthood- what I would call a "comedy plus." If Hollywood is too snooty to give a few films like this the nod, how can older comedies be seen as brilliant films? They really aren't that funny, but I'm sure they were huge for people of that era. I guess what I'm saying is this. Isn't the purpose of a movie to really move people one way or another? And modern comedies certainly fall into that category. Who can put in a round of golf without at lest one Caddyshack reference?
  9. Don't let beer snobs tell you what you "should" like in a beer. I still love Corona with a lime, even though that has "bit the shark" long ago. I hate Miller Lite, Bud Light, etc. Sam Adams is scorned by many, but I love many of their brews. Miller Chill is good. I wouldn't drink it all the time, but it's a nice change-up every once in awhile during the summer. Just like Mike's, Summer Shandy, etc.
  10. I keep forgetting the new cover letter on these damn TPS reports.
  11. Good question. But beyond that, are the players buying what Ned is selling? Is it a team that expects to win every day? Do they believe Ned can bring them to the promised land? Do they approach an AB the way Ned wants them to? I could go on, but you get the idea. You better believe Melvin and Mark A are paying attention to these things.
  12. Firing a manger during the season could be justified, depends on the situation. With Yost, it may or may not be. None of us know what goes on in the clubhouse. Now, your 2nd question is a good one. No, it's commonplace to fire managers and head coaches without a laundry list of objective, substantiated reasons. Steinbrenner did it for years, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. What did Garner ever do to get fired? You look at all the chronic losing teams in MLB (Rockies, DRays, Royals, etc.) and they make a change basically for the sake of change. I'm not arguing if that's the right approach or not, that's just the way it works in sports. It's about winning, and if management loses faith in you, game over. Trying hard and making the right moves only lasts so long.
  13. Of course it's unreasonable!!!! It's also reality. Making the "right" moves only takes you so far. Winning is what matters. It doesn't have to be fair, it doesn't have to be right, that's just the way it works. I didn't make the rules. Melvin is sitting back, prous of all the talent he brought in. His only concern is whether he believes Yost can ultimately "get it done" this year or next year with all the talent he has to work with. Period.
  14. Wins. Very simply, "the buck stops here" concept is still alive and well. If a player is hitting .087 the entire year should he be cut? Well no, not if he's taking extra BP, listening to coaches, doing everything he can to turn it around right? Same thing is true for Yost or any manager. Whether or not he is making the right moves is largely irrelevant.
  15. Managers don't get fired for line-up changes and use of the bullpen. That is all ancillary to the big question. Do Mark A. and Melvin believe Yost is the guy that can take them to the finish line? Simple as that. So much if this debate is whether Yost deserves to be fired. In reality, that rarely has much to do with the decision. It's difficult at best for an owner or GM to pin point that manager or head coach in any sport is doing a poor job of managing. After all, players win and lose games right? If that were the case then every manager would have a job for life. So you need to look at the big picture, because that's what Melvin is doing. Every team has slumps. High and low points. But this team started 24-10 and have been in a downward spiral ever since. Again, there's a difference between a cycle and a trend. Mark A spent more money this year, and in a weak division may expect a Central Division title. Great for attendance this year and next (REVENUE $$$) So either they feel Yost can right the ship or not. The reason I started this thread is that I believed a horrific road trip would really put him on the hot seat.
  16. I honestly believe the ending can be chalked up to lazy producing. There was nothing ground breaking about the mystery ending. It's just Chase's way of saying "there are several fantastic ways to end...but it's easier to leave everything up in the air." I didn't lose sleep over it, but if you watch a show for years you expect conclusion. It's like playing the entire baseball season with no playoffs. And the artsy fartsy crowd can rejoice "how brilliant and clever...I wonder who would have won the World Series.?!?"
  17. I've had DTV and cable off and on for years- and in 4 different houses. Overall, DTV is better BUT I have stayed with TWC over the past several years for one reason- availability. People always tend to gloss over the weather issue, but it is real. I like Time Warner because I have had virtually 0% down time, and with DTV there are issues every time there was a decent rain coming down. It happened often enough that the better programming wasn't worth the annoyance.
  18. So, let's see if I can summarize the complaints... 1) A big power guy with a slow, long swing. This is not the 80s amd 90s. Do you really believe Melvin and Jack Z would have drafted this kid if he's just a big lumbering Billy Joe Robidoux type? You need to have more faith that that, you can bet they studied his swing plenty. 2) Bad defense. Yes, like Weeks, Fielder, Hart, and just about everyone else drafted recently not named J.J. Hardy. 3) Plays the same position as Prince. Even if he does, so what?!?! It's a bad problem to have another .900 OPS guy sitting in AAA two years from now? Wouldn't that be nice insurance if Prince can't be re-signed? Besides, it sounds like he'll be a LF. It's not much of a stretch to take someone with even decent athletic ability and make them a serviceable defensive player.
  19. I'm sure you didn't intend to do so, but that coomment is rather condescending. There is a difference between a "rough stretch" and a trend. IF the Crew loses all 3 series, that is 10 of the last 11. That's why I brought the topic up now. To me, that's a trend. I think there is cause for worry. Injuries have not been a factor this year, other than Weeks for a couple weeks. And most of the losing came while Weeks was in the line-up. So what happens when the inevitable injuries occur? What happens when Prince cools off for a week or two. I'm a glass is half full guy, but that doesn't mean there is no cause to worry. Finally, let me be clear there is little correlation in the history of sports between a Manager DESERVING to be fired and GETTING fired. As the old adage goes, you can't fire 25 players but you can fire the manager when things aren't going according to plan.
  20. The Brewers have lost 7 of their last 8 series, heading out for a 9 game road trip. Does anyone believe Yost's job could be on the line if they go 2-7 on the trip.....or worse? I'm not an anti-Yost guy, so there is no hidden agenda in this question. You have to ask youreslf though, if they lose all three series, that would mean they lost 10 of their last 11. I hope we all would agree this team is better than that. I trust Melvin does not have an unlimited leash for Yost. To answer my own question, I doubt a change would be made but it wouldn't shock me. More likely, they wait until the All Star break and see where things stand.
  21. Silver lining? There's tons of them! What position player is playing "above their head" right now? I would say Hardy is about the only one. Weeks, Hall, Braun, Hart and Estrada have proven they're capable of better numbers. Not bad odds. One player who may see a decrease in OPS, FIVE who could see an increase. Pitching- No starter has been lights out. Sheets and Cappy can pitch better than they have. I don't see much of a downside in the starting rotation, they can only improve. Same with the pen. They have not been stellar, I don't see a drop-off coming. Just another MLB mediocre pen with an outstanding closer. So we have a FIRST PLACE team, with the potential of playing better.
  22. I know nothing about this guy, other than his numbers in Huntsville. The numbers have me intrigued: Mark DiFelice 3-1 2.11ERA 42.2IP 6BB 43K 0.80 WHIP
  23. Proxy vote from my wife: Any disaster movie, even the made for TV versions. Twister, anything with a Volcano, basically anything from nature or man-made that can cause mass destrcution and bad acting.
