  1. Yesterday at 5-0 in ST all the newbies were talking World Series...now the pitching sucks. What a difference a day makes!
  2. Living in Apple-ton, I can tell you winning has very little to do with attendance. Weather plays a bigger factor than anything else. Let's remember it was rainy and cool for most of the 1st half of the season. In fact, it is still unseasonably cool many nights in July. Weather and promotions draw people to Fox Cities Stadium, just like most minor league teams I would imagine.
  3. Bennett always catches for Wes O. Maybe that tells us something about BOTH of them.
  4. Also, when DJ Stuart Scott was doing the highlights he pointed out it's Ginter with a hard G, not (J)inter. Jeez just pronounce the guy's name correctly, why point out how it's NOT pronounced?
  5. Evidently this Starks kid needed a "lesson" Holy crap get that guy out of the game before he hurts someone.
  6. Brewers RISP WHOHS are SOLVVD, at least on this road trip.
  7. When it's your 1st round pick, of course it is. The sooner he dominates rookie ball, the sooner he'll be in Beloit.
  8. The real reason would be injury. Also, it's hard to believe those three will be pitching as well as they are right now. That's why the time is now.
  9. And I haven't given up yet on DeLarosa yet either. If that guy ever becomes a starter in Milwaukee the Melvin legend will grow. This team could actually have the best ERA in the major leagues at the All Star break. Absolutely mind boggling. Like it or not, the future is now. Give this team a bat in RF and they will contend for the WC, maybe even NLC Pennant. What are the chances this team will ever have the lowest ERA in the majors in years to come? It's one of those years (knock on wood) where everything is going right, and that is real tough to repeat. Don't mess with kharma.
  10. They need a new person to work the on screen stats, it's getting very irritating. Takes too long to post balls and strikes, and sometimes it's wrong. Same thing with baserunners. How hard can it be?
  11. Without looking at the Power 50, I don't think Trofholz or Lewis are on the list right? Trofholz has been right around .300 all year with occasional pop, and Lewis sounds like a real good defensive player hitting over .400 (small sample). May be too early to put Lewis on the list, but both these guys are doing well for low round picks!
  12. I'll take the glass is half full today. What a nice line: I do have a question. How did we acquire Heether, Trofholz, and W. Lewis. I've heard of Heether prior to this yr and knew he had power, but Trofholz seems to be a very nice lead-off man. And this Lewis kid has been raking since he came to Beloit.
  13. Hoffy, a big part of your argument seems to be this idea that the Brewers will only have this draft pick for 2-3 years in the majors. No matter how many times someone points it out that you're wrong, you keep going back to it. The "don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument" syndrom. Regardless of whether you draft a college or HS pitcher you havehim for SIX YEARS. Not THREE. Finally, why do you believe it will take Rogers 5 years to get to Milwaukee? (As you mention above with the 23-25 yr old) Talent is what matters. If this guy is a great pitcher 4 yrs from now, it's better than a very good pitcher 3 years from now.
  14. Wouldn't that be a positive if Nelson could hit well this year in Indy? I wouldn't make decisions based on preventing someone from being "too good too fast." Secondly, why would Nelson have to be in Milwaukee right out of the gate next year? He can start out back in Indy. If he's still doing well, that's a good problem to have. I guess my bottom line is that it looks like he's ready. Or at least I'll say that if he keeps this up until the break. Sure he can work on cutting down on his Ks, but that's Brad Nelson. He'll always have some strike-outs. I can live with that.
  15. Development time between a top shelf college pitcher and HS pitcher is one year. Even the best college pitchers will almost always take 2-3 years. The best HS arms will take 3-4. So we're going to quibble about a year? That's not even an issue for me. The only thing I'm curious about is why they REALLY liked him over Bailey and Sowers.
  16. How many days before Nelson is promoted to Indy? This is the only major prospect move that I would endorse right now. Move Nelson at the break. I was leaning towards moving Weeks and maybe Gwynn down to HD. The more I think about it, let them play in Hville for an entire season. I think the routine and consistent coaching for an entire season will pay off. Ditto for most of the pitchers. I can definitely see Saenz moving to Indy, but that's it. When he's moved up, bring Parra up from HD in his place. Sound like a plan?
  17. Have the Brewers indicated whether or not he'll get another start, or if they plan to have him up for the rest of thes eason for that matter? I see Capuano on the 15 day, and Santos was a short term solution. I see no reason why they wouldn't have Hendrickson start in place of Capuano. When Capuano comes back, move Santos out of the rotation. Finally, I can't accept nervousness as the reason for throwng a fastball at 88 consistently. When a pitcher is too "amped up" they overthrow everything. Now maybe he was thinking location, location, location and that took some speed off his fastball. I guess I can accept that a a possible reason.
  18. To clarify, I'm talking about his 4 seem fastball- the fastball he usesmost often. And yes, his 4 seemer is slow and straight at the ML level. I'm not judging his performance, just his stuff (since this is the first time I've seen him.) I honestly don't care how many hits he gave up or if he won or lost the game. What I see is a guy who is going to need complete control of that curveball and paint corners with the fastball every start to be successful.
  19. Ben Hendrickson...yawn....if this is the Brewers top SP prospect we're in trouble. The guy does have a real nice curve ball, and I can see how he will have some success in the ML because of it. But that fastball is slow and straight. When you throw a 90 mph fastball that doesn't move, you better have two other outstanding pitches. I just don't see anything more than an end of the rotation guy.
  20. The only post game comments I want to hear from any umpire at any time is "no comment." These guys just can't get involved in pi$$g matches with managers and players.
  21. I must be mistaken, but hasn't Sheets had 4 days off??? I thought the last 4 days the SP were Santos, Obermueller, Davis, and Capuano? Or is this Capuono's start and he can't go?
  22. Turn it around JDLR! Hey....keep an eye on this Villanueva kid. I saw him pitch in ******on, man does his fastball move.
  23. Maybe that's the answer- you don't have a generalized program. That could be part of the solution. HS pitchers perhaps should be treated differently than college guys. At least in the first 2-3 years.
  24. Chris, Sarfate then basically backs up wat Money was saying. Only one day off, the rest of the days they're throwing. So it begs the question...are these young pitchers able to recover? Especially when you consider it's an awefully long season in Beloit compared to what they're used to doing. As far as throwing curves, I don't think they ever thought about it years ago and plenty of guys threw curves at an early age. Simply was never an issue. Now we know more, and there is some evidence throwing curves at a young age can have damaging effects. BUT many believe that's due to improper mechanics, not throwing a curve ball in and of itself. Parents and coaches (even good ones) are convinced they're teaching proper technique for throwing curves when they are not. Someoen asked why Money doesn't do something about it? Because he serves the organization, that's why. It is the parent team's pitching program and he can't unilaterally change things.
  25. I mentioned before the season even started it was a mistake to rely almost exclusively on young, unproven pitchers to carry the bullpen. It seems obvious to me that the best bang for the buck with a small payroll team is to pay a couple of decent bullpen vets. Doesn't cost much, but you get a lot of mileage (and some wins.) And you can still have 2 young guys there as well, but don't rely on 4 of them!
