  1. Dealing Braun would be nice, but near impossible. Cain would be much better to move, but also near impossible. There's got to be a market for Grandal and Moose. Albers, Claudio, Aguilar all have at least some value and worth getting what you can get. I just don't see the point in dealing Grisham +, or whatever it would take to get a really good SP. You still HOPE Woodruff can come back AND be effective immediately before it's too late. Davies has't looked to good lately, and then you have Gio, Anderson, maybe hope Houser can repeat what he did last night more often. Just way too many question marks for me in the rotation, and this lineup should be scoring more runs, bu they just aren't- especially early in games. Sometimes you have to live to fight another day. I get the "anything can happen" angle, but I just don't see any way this team is wearing WS rings with the addition of a SP and another BP arm. Do you honestly see it happening? I've gone back and forth with nearly every game, but it's time to sell. Very hard for me to admit that. I was at the game on Saturday night, and it was incredible to see them come back and win that game- top 3 games I've ever attended. But my brain just caught the third ace with the river card, and busted my heart that was trying to bluff with a pair of eights.
  2. Coach Cooper was not one to put up with that nonsense. I remember once he fired a baseball at a hippie (our catcher's dad) for playing a harmonica in the stands.
  3. Good grief, what is with this obsessive "venture capitalist" stuff? You even use the term wrong. A VC gets in at early stage funding on a new company. I do not think the Brewers were a new concept early stage company. Further, I do not think Attanasio and partners have demonstrated any kind of buy, bleed and sell ideology. Whatever, he's a capitalist therefore evil. Dont stop him, he's on a roll.
  4. No, I asked the question just how I wanted to. You keep suggesting this idea Daniels is more limited than the other Packers defensive linemen. Right here you're saying he's just a run stuff. That's not true. He's been a very effective pass rusher, particularly from as an interior pass rusher in this system almost his entire career. You're describing him as though he's a Vince Wolfork type in the very late stages of his career. That's just not the case. There's a reason he was signed immediately after he was let go by the Lions while other teams called about him. We've got depth, we've got only so much money to spend and Kenny Clark due a massive payday in the near future. But there's no need to diminish the player Daniels was or is. Yea, you were right to call me on that. I overstated Daniels limitations, he can give you some pass rush. I think they just want more athletic guys on the line. That and the $8MM added up to his release.
  5. Meh, I don't know why they changed their strategy over the weekend and took 2/3 from the Cubs.
  6. Also, he's 22. Hit .854 in the rookie leagues at 18. Then he struggled in A/A+ but was 2-3 years younger than league avg. And had a couple nagging injuries to deal with. Numbers only tell part of the story though, otherwise Brinson would have been in the AS game this year. Grisham has a short swing, good eye, can draw walks...all things that usually translate well to MLB. I don't think he's a sure thing, but there's enough there that I want to find out.
  7. Daniels was definitely not coming back after this year. But what is it that people think Lowry or the rest of the DL can do that Daniels can't? This I don't get. He hasn't fallen off like Cobb. He had one down year, last year, and otherwise he's been healthy and durable and productive. I understand that it was 8 million probably better put towards future considerations and we have DL depth. But he was still their second best DL most likely. And unless you're talking about Gary, Za'Darius Smith, he can do pretty much whatever Dean Lowry or Adams can do. I do think that Daniels is in a really-really good position to succeed this year next to Damon Harrison in a 4-3. I could see him topping his previous career high for sacks. Harrison is such a monster, teams will have to double him, particularly in the run game, and Daniels will be there to clean up. First, of course it's cap related. If Daniels was making the vets minimum he wouldn't have been cut. What can Lowry and others do that Daniels can't? You got that question backwards, IMHO. What can Daniels do at $8MM that others can't? He is a run stuffer, period. There's still value in that in today's NFL, but not enough to justify $8MM for a few short yardage snaps every game.
  8. I agree to a point about the quantity over quality thing. But here's the thing. If Brogdon was back and the team plays roughly the same in the playoffs are they going to win a title? My point is, Giannis, Middleton, and Bledsoe simply have to play better that they did in the Toronto series or the rest is just conversation. Or keep it real simple- Giannis needs to play better. Having Brogdon or Korver or whoever can't make up for that. This quantity should put them in the hunt for the best regular season record again, which still has value. They can always make a trade late in the year for that quality, or maybe they have it on the roster already. But plenty of time to work that out before the playoffs. I (and nearly everyone) thought Mirotic would be that difference maker last year, just didn't turn out that way. But it shows they can and will make a move like that if necessary. These off-season personnel moves are big, but not as big as the adjustments the coaching staff will make. Now that they have a full season of tape, I really hope they come back with the right adjustments on both sides of the court. Starting with #1, how to use Giannis.
  9. The Lords of the interwebs have figured out people LOVE lists that rank things. Can't get enough. I think we all agree the system is somewhere in the bottom tier today, and we also understand why. Some source says Brewers are 30th another 26th, what does it matter. Just click bait. And to be fair to BA, hard to argue much with the rankings. They know as well it's just a snap shot in time, not a prediction of how many MLB players a system will produce, etc. The danger is how a list like this can be interpreted by others, like the OP.
  10. Can you? With 4 guys playing 2 positions, just not enough ABs to go around. Sure, they can have Moose play some 2B again- if you want to sit Hiura. Thames could play some OF, also not ideal.
  11. If there's cap space available in the current year, it makes sense to use it right? In your example, you now have created an addl $2 in cap space the following two years. Unless I'm not understanding your question?
  12. Kevin Mench Glenn Braggs Pat Listach I'll think of more
  13. In today's NFL if you're a defensive player you better be able to either get to the QB or cover. There's players out there who can play a few snaps each game as a run stuffer in short yardage/ goal line for a fraction of that $7.6MM.
  14. I think it's as simple as front offices adjusting to the new deadline. This would normally be "kicking the tires" time and there's no room for that this year. So yea, asking prices will be high today. But I expect there will be plenty of activity at the deadline, these borderline teams will wait until the weekend and then decide if they're sellers.
  15. I find it interesting the Brewers carry-in policy is still more liberal than the T Rats. You can't even bring in a bag of peanuts at that stadium.
  16. I'm excited, and it's fun to be excited again. In the decades I've been a fan, last year was the season I just went through the motions of being a fan. I love that changes were finally made, and it will be fun to see how the offense has changed. On defense, with the influx of talent they are almost guaranteed to be better, with a chance of being really good eventually. New coaching staff, lots of new players, plenty to keep me interested in seeing how it all develops.
  17. They're not going to use a 13 man rotation. Korver's minutes will be really limited until late in the season. Matthews and Hill will see their minutes managed too. Look for random injured list, etc. However they do it, they'll want to make sure these guys are fresh come playoff time.
  18. Jason Kendall used to do it quite a bit. Seems like Biggio must have done it ar some point, but that one's a guess.
  19. Agree with some of that, but Houser has always been a starter too. You want Wilkerson to get a chance, why not Houser? But.....yea....that and many other things haven't worked this year.
  20. Why not? ERA is a small part of what they would be looking at. Do they think he's ready to be thrown into a pennant race? Does he have the stuff to get LH hitters out at the MLB level? Many, many things to consider. But sometimes in spirts you need to make a bold move. I would be fine with giving Supak a start and see what happens. In baseball it seems like 50% of players on an MLB roster are not "good enough" to be there. 25% who got the opportunity and proved enough to deserve the spot. 25% who just got the opportunity for whatever reason. Ceiling, need, nepotism whatever the reason. I don't argue with the need to do something but you have a guy who has done EVERYTHING he could possibly do to get a shot and you're never going to give him a crack and that opportunity. I find that infuriating and naive. You know he won't work? You used him wrong so that proves it won't work? You know he's not one of the 25% who isn't good enough to be there but will slug his way to deserving a seat? It bothers me in baseball... it bothers me when team PAY for these jags (just a guy) in football instead of waiting for the ones who fall through the cracks who are every bit the equal on the vet min, instead of paid for insert dumb reason. Wilkerson is a starter. I don't want to see him in the pen ever again. If you aren't going to give him a chance to start, stop wasting a 40 man roster spot on him. Jumping him for Supak is absurd. If that's what you want to do... cut him. Not opposed to Wilkerson either. I just put zero thought into "it's his turn." There are no turns. If they believe Supak is more likely to give you 5 solid innings, put him on the bump. I really don't care which, as long as it's not Chacin.
  21. 137 innings last year, so limit probably 160 or so. Only 117 this year so far, could get like 8 starts out of him yet.
