  1. Yea, if they really are trying to bring back all of Middleton, Brogdon, and Lopez then something has to give. You free up $6MM in cap space for the 2019-20 season, plus Patty C and Brown have already passed up Snell. Kind of a no-brainer, and Detroit is obviously raking up expiring contracts, which is smart for their situation.
  2. They will waive/extend Leuer creating roughly $6mm in cap space next season. Another very astute move by Horst.
  3. Which is ironic, because he could have been a good fit with LeBron, Davis, and whoever the 3rd guys is they bring in. Just play great defense and feed the ball to the three scorers.
  4. I see three options with Arcia. Extend his contract, trade him, or wait it out longer. Extension?!?!! Sure, makes sense at some level. It won't cost much since he's close to replacement level, but that is likely his floor. Could be his ceiling too, but again the Brewers wouldn't need to pay much to find out and possibly have a very affordable contract. They are high on Dubon, no doubt. So they could trade Arcia and have Dubon take over. I don't see that happening until the off-season if it happens at all. Then again, if Arcia keeps slumping they could send him down like last year. IF they give Dubon the chance to play SS, who knows maybe he hits the ground running and never looks back. Most likely, they don't do anything at all right now- which makes sense. But I think this off-season it would be wise to pull the trigger on either A or B.
  5. Woodruff throws his change 15%, so he's not just fb/slider. Maybe its not soley an issue with coaching in the minors, sounds like its organization wide. Of course some of these guys aren't as comfortable with a change, its the staff's job to make them throw it anyhow until they get comfortable. Like changing your folf swing.
  6. I have to wonder about the Brewer minor lg. pitching coaches. So many young guys come up w/o any sort of change-up. How in the world did Peralta progress w/o somebody showing him and then demand he throw a change-up? A circle change or even a straight palm ball is thrown like a fastball. Neither pitch is that hard to learn or throw. With Peralta's motion, a change-up would be a devastating pitch for him. It would make his 92-93 fastball look much quicker and help dramatically against lefties. Agree completely. Harped about this in far too many posts. Everyone is fastball/slider, and even the slider is usually suspect. Big heat was effective for a while, but hitters have adjusted. Almost criminal these guys aren't taught how to throw various changes, and get proficient at throwing the one they're comfortable with. Then again, always wondered why there arent more (any) knuckleballers anymore.
  7. Does size matter? Plenty of big guys have had arm injuries.
  8. Its about risk/reward. If they can get a stretch out of him even close to his first half of 2018 it would be huge. Just not much downside of having him on the roster for now. When Hiura returns, they can give up on him then. Or, they can go with 12 man pitching staff for a couple days, maybe theres an injury to a posirion player, etc., to extend having to make a decision on him. Many gave up on Thames long ago. Its worth the exercise to see if Aguilar and/or Shaw gets hot. At least until the break. Plus, they wont need to trade for a bat at the deadline. Not much amo in the system to trade, and that needs to be used for pitching, if anything.
  9. Hader, Burnes, and especially Peralta are atill young. Any or all of them may be moved to starter down the road. In the meantime,I still think they should use Peralta as a spot starter for a few day games, where his delivery really seems to play even better.
  10. Unless you are playing Thailand Or you are Thailand playing Indonesia.
  11. Hit any out? Unfortunately, no. I did swing the Braun bat a few times and it’s no wonder he’s late on inside pitches. Thing is a log. Had some good contact though. Gap to gap! You never could hit the breakaball. Seriously though, thats really cool!!!
  12. I think when/if he comes up for good one of those two things will happen. Or another questionable IL stint for one of them to buy a little time. But yea, long term this season if everyone is healthy Shaw has no role on the 25. Aguilar has RH hitter going for him, but that alone will only keep him around until the All star break.
  13. Congrats to Toronto, good for them and their great fans. (Except, you know, one of them.) Makes you wonder what would have happened if the Bucks played with that poise and confidence.
  14. I sense Lopez is really being glossed over. If they lose him, they literally don't have any 5- at all. Yea, Sova can play some 5 here and there against certain players/teams. But Lopez's presence on defense is really underrated. Coach Bud talks about it all the time, how his combo of just overall size/bulk and shot blocking really anchors the defense. Without him, the lane is open for business. Then on the offensive side, he helps spread the court, of course, because opposing teams have to respect him from 3. How do they replace that with no cap space?
  15. This is the stupidest non-issue EVER. It's the media and twitter that care and I don't even believe they do. What's the FIRST tiebreaker in soccer? Goal differential. What did Thailand do to Indonesia? They won....13-0. But these women are supposed to what, not try when they get a big lead? Bunting to break up a no-hitter is very different. This is another issue driven by twitter that's now getting media play...and it blows my mind. How about we just enjoy USA Women playing great? To be clear, I think this is a stupid controversy, not topic to be posted here. Since others are weighing in, including yourself, I guess it is a good topic to be pisted here. But you're welcome to apply for a job as a mod.
  16. They havent faced that many Haders. And they've had far more hits in those situations than the non-factual "seems like" metric shows us.

    13-0

Since people seem to have a strong opinion about bunting to break-up a no-hitter, thought this may be interesting to discuss. For those unaware, USA women's World Cup team beat Thailand 13-0 in their first game of the tournament. Some in the media, former players, etc. are calling them out for POURING IT ON. Others say this is high level competition, and you play your best the entire game. I'm fine with it.
  18. We're empty nesters, probably main reason. We don't watch nearly as much during the summer, except for the Brewers and IGTs. But when it's -80 and dark for 20 hours of the day, lots of time to binge watch. Plus, virtually all the shows we watch are streaming, and they generally have less episodes. For example, new season of Sneaky Pete just dropped and we saw the whole season over 3 days because there's only 10 episodes. That's like 2 1/2 hours per night, so no different than a Brewers game or some movies. As for GOT, I'm not paying for HBO so I'll never see a minute of it.
  19. That's not the only time. Nelson will start opening day and better than ever. Brewers never pour it on. Counsel to blame for roster decisions. A few I can't recall off-hand. It's to the point where I hope you say the Brewers won't win the WS this year, then we'll be certain they will. Nobody wants to poke at you, just stop giving us the ammunition. We're all just trying to help man, because you seem like a good guy.
  20. He'a already been proven wrong, he said he would be the opening day starter. As TMW said, that's fine, as the player you need to be confident. That doesn't mean as fans we need to believe everything they say. Another example is 92's favorite player Taylor Williams. Remember when Braun as glowing about how great his stuff was and he was going to be special? Yea, athlete/coach.GM speak needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
  21. This is getting/staying OT, but staying in front of the player is the whole point of defense in basketball. If the offensive player plows ahead anyhow (like Giannis does at times) the defensive player is rewarded for playing good defense, the offensive player gets a foul. Why is that cheap? If you're talking about flopping, that doesn't happen much anymore (at least in the NBA) because the refs are on top of that now. When defenders DO try that, they rarely get away with it. But getting charge is about as basic to defense in basketball as throwing to first as part of your defense in baseball.
