  1. 5-6 years? It seems like 5-6 months! The uber pessimists are mostly pretty new. I think a lot of it has to do with not only increased interest, but higher expectations. Many of the fans on the bandwagon can't understand why the bullpen isn't shutting teams down like it did last year. They just didn't pay attention as closely during the years where the bullpen looked and performed very similar to what they are doing this year, because the expectations just weren't there. Seriously? Rather ironic someone posted this a couple days ago: The offense has given up...........These guys have checked out. Time to let the youngsters play, and see what you have going into next year. You can't get much more pessimistic than saying players have given up and aren't trying to compete.
  2. File and Lazar, two guys under the radar just getting it done all season. Judging from our current poll in process, looks like it's going to stay that way.
  3. I heard a few days ago the players checked out already for the season. As I said then, a bunch of nonsense.
  4. You just said it. May not be fair. Same with an employer, you dont need a reason but if you can prove the reason was discrimination you have a lawsuit. No idea if Cephus has a case, but seems it would be stronger if he's not re-admitted.
  5. If he gets re-admitted, he has options and they're all good. Btw, we have no idea if a fresh start somewhere else is best for him. If he gets denied, hipefully he sues UW for millions.
  6. Yea, 0% chance he will be in the rotation. He may get to play garbage minutes once in a while, that's it. If he plays more that that, it tells me Giannis is getting TOO involved. Having his brother at the end of the bench is fine, but if he actually plays that's a problem.
  7. Has their been any talk about moving Tony Brown to Safety? He just seems like a ballhawk, explode to the ball type of player. Maybe just too small for safety or what? I'll hang up and listen. As for the defense in general, can almost guarantee they'll be better. But these days its all about red zone defense, getting turnovers, giving up big plays, and 3rd down defense. Probably in that order. How well they do in those areas will be the difference between a good defense and a great one. O line is the only group that concerns me. There will be some real tough cuts this year, seems like its been a few years since that was the case.
  8. Frustration has kicked in, I get it. But to claim players have checked out is not fair, and the worst thing you can say about a player. On the field at least.
  9. The season is not over until I get to see Moose play SS.
  10. Its not on Counsel, its on Hader. Who cares about the Cubs series, the game TODAY needed the best reliever to close it out. He didnt. Doesnt look tired, just not controlling his slider, so hitters sitting dead red.
  11. Hippies don't work! But it is 2 pm, so some of them may still be sleeping. Hippie math: Hacky sack and weed in the parking lot > drumming inside the stadium
  12. And we wonder why GMs and Managers/Coaches in sports like to stick to generic, cliche statements. If they don't, people read too much into it and come up with things like "CC said Grisham is better than Yelich." That's quite a leap. It is clear what he said. Grisham's numbers in AAA are as good/better than what Yelich has been doing, so he deserves a shot. He did NOT say Grisham is as good as Yelich, or expects him to be.
  13. We don't know if Mirotic would have returned, Barcelona could have matched any offer and it seems he wanted to play over in Europe. Also, keep in mind Giannis felt strongly about having Middleton back. I don't like it either, but I think Horst did an amazing job with the cards he had to play. All I know is I don't want to re-live this the next few years whenever Middleton is less than stellar. The decision was made, mostly made sense at the time, and I'm looking forward not back. (Just remind me I said this when I go off on Middleton myself one day.)
  14. Yea, what a strange career. Methodically comes up through the system, very consistent years with the Brewers. Picked up for nothing by the Reds, career year, now they get nothing but PTBN. Good luck being a GM, still so .uch luck invloved in all these decisions they make.
  15. I think it's Grandal going to 1B and Pina catching against tough lefties. You are both right, they will try both.
  16. Yeah, I don’t think he will even be active tonight... Guessing the official move comes tomorrow. And Ken Griffey Jr. can exhale, his legacy is safe for one more day.
  17. Agreed on Dubon. He has shown nothing special and is already 25. Maybe he makes it as a minimum salary utility guy. Why do you believe Arcia can be a .750-.770 hitter? He's only reached that level in 4 months out of 18 in his career, and 2 out of the most recent 10. Faith. Sorry, don't have much more for you that that. We have seen him have stretches where he's really dialed in, and not just for a week. Granted, those stretches are few and far between but it shows me his ceiling. I will play the "young" card. Yes, you could say he has enough MLB ABs to show "he is what he is" by now. I'm not naive, I realize tat may be the case. I just think he's young and athletic enough that there's time for something to work for him. Stance, swing, maturing as a hitter. He's walking more, and K'ing less so it's a process. All that said, I don't know how many more years I want to wait to see if he breaks through.
  18. I keep seeing how Dubon is an upgrade to Arcia. That's just not reality. People read WAY too much into AAA numbers, which are highly inflated this year on top of it. Dubon is OPSing .809, nice. Except Nate Orf is .802. Saladino was .943, we see how that's turning out. Spangenberg is at .900. Oh, and remember Travis Shaw recently raking down there. Point is, .800 in San Antonio this year is nothing special at all. Dubon does not walk. Very limited power. As dissapointing as Arcia has been, Dubon can't touch his OPS with batting avg alone. And he's not going to hit .300 either. Dubon is Sardinas, Rivera, and the long list of middle IF we have seen before. He will struggle to stay on a roster as a utility guy. I get Arcia isn't much better, but he is better. And I still believe he can become a .750- .770ish hitter.
  19. Well, he has no time to play when he's busy packing his bags to fly out to Oakland.
  20. Ray or Greinke? Sure, would love to have one or both. If it means giving up Hiura or Grisham, no thanks. That would be yucky.
  21. Some of that, but they'll also put Grandal at 1B and Pina behind the dish vs LHP.
  22. Welcome to the Forum! I think the whole "calling the game" thing is more of a 1950's thing. The game is largely called from the dugout these days. Look closely, and you'll see any catcher constantly looking into the dugout between pitches. Not to mention before a series and each game the pitchers/catchers meet with the coaching staff, analytics people, advance scouts, etc. and plan out how each hitter is going to be pitched.
