  1. My memory isn't what it used to be, but when McCarthy was manager didn't they go 161-1 then lose to the Braves in the NLDS?
  2. First, I just wanted to say Rodgers and MM both deserve some kudos for keeping all this private. Even after MM firing Rodgers didn't throw him under the bus. Publicly, they supported each other. For that matter, all their coaches, players, etc. did a great job of keeping it in the locker room. Regarding McCarthy, there's plenty of evidence to suggest he's not (and wasn't) a very good football coach. Coaching is managing people, and he failed miserably managing the team's most important player. Even putting that aside, he passed himself off as an offensive guru when he really had nothing to add to the WCO. I've heard these stories over the last few years about opponents knowing the plays, routes, etc. Poor at adjusting as the game goes on, no interest in the defensive side of the ball or ST. Now we hear he skipped meeting before a game. (I'll even give him the benefit of a doubt on that one, as we don't know the details.) Can we really blame Rodgers if all this is true? Look at your own job. If you knew what needs to be done in your company or dept, but you have a boss that has no clue how does that make you feel? Yea, Rodgers is an odd duck, and I believe he is sensitive, driven by past slights, etc. but so what? If that's what motivates him, fine by me.
  3. That was a pretty good way to close a game. I dont care at all if Giannis is named MVP. All I know is there is no other player I would rather have in the playoffs.
  4. Nobody dislikes you. I dont even mind your a cock-eyed optimist. Its just that definitive statements bother me. Nelson, Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff will all be "aces" this year. Period. You dont acknowledge its highly unlikely 2 of those guys are that good this year, let alone all of them. You also keep moving the bar on Nelson. Opening day starter! No, hes had setbacks in his throwing program, and I dont know how you could be anything more than cautiously optimistic. Nope....hes going to dominate. Its not you, its me. I just cant take your takes seriously when theres never any room for doubt. Baseball is crazy. For all we know Davies and Anderson will be their best pitchers.
  5. Sorry, I voted for Pedal Wheat Me
  6. Local TV sports isn't journalism though, and really never has been. It's a smiley face reporting scores and playing a few highlights. Dirty laundry has been aired before but always after the fact, as with this article. (Pretty detailed accounts of Rhodes for example.) If a local reporter put this story out 6 months ago MM and Rodgers would have denied it, and most of the people who provided these instances wouldn't have commented back then to begin with. So the reporter is left with no sources to back his claims, and basically got himself fired since nobody from the Packers would ever talk to him again. After MM is gone, much easier for people to "come clean."
  7. I used to be in this camp, and it's not just the Packers. Same goes for Brewers/Bucks coverage. But I have come to know a couple sports reporters in recent years, and they have a good point. They do hear things, know things, etc. that are newsworthy but negative to player or coach. If they report that, word gets around and they get frozen out. If you can't do your job, you don't have a job. So it is a fine line.
  8. Why does it need to have significance beyond a baseball term? I'm sure someone has GRSLAM, HR, WLKOFF, etc. all kinds of baseball related terms. Don't think about it too hard, just take it as face value. Only other thing it COULD be on top of that is having 4 people in the family, but that's about it.
  9. This starting staff is not special, and please stop saying "with a healthy Nelson" like it's a given. When will we learn? The TALENT is pretty special, but there's a long way to go before I can call this staff special and the deepest in NL. Davies is Davies, Burnes has started one game, and neither Peralta or Woodruff have proven they can be consistently good as starters. I get it, it's exciting. I've waited many years for the Brewers to have a bunch of their home-grown pitchers in the rotation. Let's just pump the brakes a little.
  10. Jennings and Finley have been on the anti-Rodgers bitter train for quite a while, and I'l always brushed it off. But seeing some of that somewhat collaborated by guys like Grant and Harris leads me to believe that there is something to it. I've heard through the grapevine that Rodgers devours pretty much everything written about him during the offseason. Hopefully he reads this, and finally realizes that he isn't 100% innocent in this debacle. I know one thing ... if a chip on the shoulder is something that energizes Rodgers, this is going to provide a huge one going into the 2019 season. It was pretty obvious that the guy was checked-out at times last season. A completely engaged Rodgers is a scary good possibility. For sure, Rodgers has some blame in all this. But it looks like the consensus is he was usually right. Has to be frustrating to know the offense is broken and you're forced to run it year after year.
  11. It's like the MVP in any sport. Name recognition, lifetime achievement, basic stats (PPG), etc. all factor in. I can easily see some voters thinking Giannis and Harden are a push, so give it to Harden because Giannis will have plenty of chances in his career. Stupid, but that's the way it goes. It's why I don't really care too much about MVP awards.
  12. WOW is right. Typically I don't automatically believe articles like this, but for some reason I believe every word of this. On record going back years, wanted him fired after Seattle playoff game- would have saved several years of stuck in neutral.
  13. I dont like Murphy, but what is the right way to fire someone exactly? I dont get what else he could have done. After the firing Murphy talked about how MM was a good coach, good man, etc. Not sure what else hes supposed to do.
  14. Couple of things. Only one pitch was labeled a Change-up. It was 90 mph, so that's not a change-up. One pitch labeled a slider, should be in curve column. So, what we have is two different fastballs (91) and curve (16) This is really what I wanted to comment on though: Velocities are assumed from 55ft (rather than the gameday standard of 50ft) for increased realism. We need to keep this in mind, velo comes from various sources and methods so a "94 mph fb" for example is going to be captured differently.
  15. Put the winning run in scoring position? Yes. I want Schebler. But that worked too!
  16. This is why I keep defending/ hyping Peralta since A ball. To say he has the lowest floor ceiling compared to Woodruff/Burnes is silly. Peralta is only 22 and this is far from the 1st really good start he's had. He has (and will) have a few clunkers mixed in, but at least he's proven he's capable of having really strong starts.
  17. Hey. Even I admit hes not a good hitter. But he does have that clutch in him, and I think he still can be a 750 ish hitter. I will go to war with Arcia any time.
  18. He's got 1145 Major League PAs under his belt now and has a .653 career OPS. He wasn't a particularly good hitter in the minors. While it's possible he could improve his hit tool at 25, 26, there's a growing possibility he just isn't going to be a good hitter. No question. But Im not even looking for good, acceptable would be acceptable.
  19. Wow I can see who the new Sogard is this year. Just release Arcia? Good god. 2nd best hitter in September, only to Babe Yelich. And best hitter in the playoffs. Arcia is still young, he will hit more consistently. Im all in on him. That doesnt mean he wont go down a couple times again this year, he probably will.
