  1. Yea, thats not happening. Davies and Chacin arent going to the pen. Gio either for that matter. Nelson if he ever makes it back will be one or the other, probably starter. 3 young guys, just depends on opportunity. If everyone else is productive in the rotation then they may be in the pen. They wont put guys in the pen to limit innings, that can be done with a skipped start, trip to the IL, etc. So no, I dont see some master plan where everyone does both.
  2. Hard time following what all of that means, tbh. But if you're suggesting all these guys are going to bounce between the rotation and the pen....no. That's not gong to happen.
  3. FTC: Now that I have a better idea of what YOU mean by piggy-backing, I really don't understand why you would want to do this. You mention "I would want the starter to go at least 5." If that's the case, you have eliminated the best argument for piggybacking- which is having the starter avoid going through the order the 3rd time, or even the 2nd time. If you just want the starter to go as deep as possible, why would you tie Peralta to him? Based on game situation you could use literally anyone, so why handcuff yourself to Peralta? Then you want to waste his innings in a simulated game if he needs to get pulled for a PH? Why in the world would you do that? And yes, that scenario where he would need to be pulled for a PH would happen far more often than not. Meaning he would pitch 2 innings, not 4.That's what happens when you try to create a rigid piggyback, it creates these scenarios that make no sense. It's being cute just for the sake of it, and not adding any value. (And you're proposing they do this with Peralta now, so not sure what a possible DH in the future has to do with anything.)
  4. Why not? Why not go into a game knowing you're going to try and get a majority of the innings pitched from two guys that are built up as starters and capable of each giving you at least 5IP, when your 40 man pitcher roster is chock full of those options compared to having a deep supply of shutdown relievers that can be relied on for ~3-4 appearances per week? I'd much rather take a piggy backing approach with 1 rotation spot than roll with a 6 man rotation or shuffling a guy who should be starting somewhere into an inconsistent bullpen role at this point. So let's say the plan is to piggyback Chacin/Peralta 4 innings each. 1) Chacin is horrible and can only go 2. Down 6-0. Now you want to use Peralta in a blow out game? 2) Chacin is pitching great. Up 6-0 after 4 innings. You want to yank him just because his 4 innings are up? 3) Close game, Peralta replaces Chacin after 4. Now in the 6th inning Peralta is AB with bases loaded. You're going to let him hit just because he needs his 4 innings as piggyback starter? I know the replies will e, well it doesn't have to be THAT rigid. If it's not, it's not piggybacking. Bringing in Peralta for to innings of relief is called a relief pitcher, not a piggyback. Very, very few games where it would make any sense at all to have one guy pitch roughly 4, then another guy pitch roughly 4.
  5. There hasn't been and won't be any piggy-backing or blurring the lines of starter/reliever. Unless you mean a reliever pitching more than one inning, which isn't exactly a novel idea.
  6. Inconsistent train wreck, sounds like just the kind of guy you would want in the bullpen. As a huge Peralta supporter, even I dont think he should rejoin the rotation right now. He should take the Burnes route, go down to SA and figure some things out. Honestly, the rotation is starting to stabilize. I wouldnt mess with that until its necessary.
  7. I don't understand the Hart callup. He is a LOOGY at best. He was putrid last year for the Os (31 hits and 12 runs in only 19 IPs). RH hitters hit an unbelievable .390/.457 against him. He stunk in his first callup with Milwaukee (2 hits and 4 walks in 2 IPs), and has been awful at San Antonio (8 hits in only 3.2 IPs, 7.36 ERA, 2.73 WHIP). Claudio has been getting hit hard lately, so maybe Hart is CC's only recourse for another lefty. At least Jackson is getting a shot. He's been doing well at San Antonio and is an improvement over Wilson. Let's hope he can bring some stability to the pen. I don't get Hart either, just seems like a waste of time. Let him pitch a fe times, won't be good and say "at least we tried." Why not just skip those steps and try someone who at least has half a chance to succeed.
  8. Well, that's sports. Why predict the Brewers' record this year, or how any players will do? Just let it play out and then discuss. If someone believes, today, the Gary pick was horrible why is it silly to say so? Obviously as time goes on it will become more obvious what kind of player any of these guys will become. But following the draft in various sports and reacting to it is as old as the sport itself.
  9. I don't know how anyone can't be worried. Yea, there was a big spread in FG% that won't happen every game, maybe not in any remaining game. But losing home court against a team that apparently is in their heads is a problem. Can they still win it? Sure. But if you're not worried you're either just telling yourself that or not being open-minded.
  10. Boston had a game plan, they were confident, and exected. Bucks were tight, that's on Bud. Was my biggest concern entering playoffs, that they slow down and stop doing whay makes them great. Moving the ball, moving bodies and getting a high % shot. We saw a lot of standing. Also, a lot of guys just freaking out. Doing things they dont normally do. Quick example, 4 different times I saw them try to dribble a loose ball instead of grabbing it. Another, Bledsoe driving but very indecisive what to do then. I would tell Giannis forget about scoring in the 1st quarter. Just move the ball quickly, find the shooters. It will open up, but he needs to keep moving not stand there and dribble and then decide to attack. Theyre never going to let him do that when there's time to anticipate.
  11. Or maybe, just maybe, their board is different than yours. Wrong. When time was up, Gute spit out his coffee and hastily pointed to the board. Guy on the phone wasnt sure who he was pointing at, so just said "Jenkins" because it sounded like a football name.
  12. point taken, my thought was they used their 1st 2 picks last year on corners. I wouldn't be upset if they get Williams as you can never not have enough at corners, but eventually you need to address the other side of the ball and give ARod some help. Maybe. But scheme alone will improve an already good offense. Plus new coaching staff may like what they see in the young WRs. Doesn't mean they shouldn't get a slot or TE, just not sure they see it as a big need.
  13. Greedy Williams definitely fills a need. They have Alexander, aging Williams, and often injured King.
  14. Im going to miss speedsters like Hawk and Ryan patrolling the middle of the field.
  15. Hot take. Spending some time reading up onthese guys and watching video, Savage is a guy who loves playing football, not sure that's the case with Gary.
  16. Yeah, that's not the problem at all. The Packers OL has been just fine. He takes hits because he scrambles after passing up the short underneath routes while looking for the big play. That said, I'd have happily drafted Taylor...if he was as good as the experts said prior to the draft. Obviously teams don't believe that to be the case or he wouldn't have dropped. The Packers OL is fine right now. Picking a Tackle would have been a succession plan to take over for Bulaga. You say fine, I'll say mediocre. But one injury away from disaster.
  17. Rodgers doesnt need weapons, he needs more than a second before someone is in his face.
  18. Arent the "best" CB and S still out there?
  19. Gute went defense 1st 3 round last year, 3 FAs, now #12 pick. We don't need to wait for the old 5 year evaluation. This defense better be clearly better this season, he owns it.
  20. Packers saying he will start his career in the OLB room.
  21. Seems like a combine pick. All the measurables, but didn't show up on film. That said, so hard to predict these ends/OLBs. Trading up or down seemed luke the way to go, vut it takes two.
  22. I do believe playoff experience matters. But how much more experience does Boston really have? Or their individual players? Not much, so I don't see any advantage in this series. Now Golden State on the other hand, yea, that's a ton of experience and that is worth something.
  23. Burnes, Peralta, and others aren't going to get better pitching out of the pen where they just pump fastballs to 3 or 4 guys. Problem isn't at the MLB level, it's that the organization is failing miserably at teaching these guys how to throw a change-up, then demanding they throw it enough to have confidence in it. So they get by on velo and fb location, finally make it to Milwaukee and get shelled. Rinse and repeat.
  24. If Zach Davies wins 100 games for the Brewers, I'll buy you all season tickets.
  25. I agree the game has changed, but the Brewers are still dead last in innings per start. The amount of innings our bullpen is eating up is a concern given the lack of top end arms in said bullpen. This really shouldn't be a question given our starters ERA is a shade under double digits... but .... who's spot in the rotation does he take? Davies and Chacin are probably locked in the rotation right now. That leaves Woodruff, Anderson, and Peralta. If Anderson throws the ball well tomorrow again, would they take another one of the young arms out of the rotation? As of today, I think it's pretty simple. Davies, Chacin, Anderson, Gio, Woodruff. Peralta can go to AAA when he comes off IR. This will change, likely often, as we go through the season. If Woodruff can't hold down a rotation spot, he goes to the pen where he can be effective. No point in AAA trip for him. Burnes and Houser can be used in the pen, not sure what to do with Peralta. But right now, there's not exactly a problem of having too many good starting pitchers.
