  1. Oliver will not be available at 12, not a chance. If they decide to trade up to get him, I'm on board. The thought of him and Kenny Clark lining up together would be awesome. Especially since the way I see the board going, nobody left at 12 really excites me. Trade up again lower in the 1st and get the best O lineman. Quality over quantity draft.
  2. I don't know. Seems there's plenty of parity these days. Still usually a twam or two at the top, but its always been that way. At least you dont have a team dominating for a decade like the Celtics did years ago. Every team has the best chance to keep their own superstar. If they lose him, pretty much their own fault. Also, these super teams fail more than they succeed. And its not all bad having one or two great teams every year. Celts/Lakers, Bulls/Pistons, Warriors/Cavs, etc. That was some great ball for all fans. I dont mind tweaking the system, not sure if hard cap is the way to go though. Maybe.
  3. Mark it down. I agree with Brew crew 92. You need to try to use him while his arm is still good. Sooner you get him to Milw the better. Nothing says he cant be moved back to a starters role down the road.
  4. We still forget how the game has changed. Very few pitchers avg 6 innings+ anymore. You're looking for guys who can give 5 good innings, and 6 or 7 occasionally. The problem th his year isnt so much length of outings, its that all too often the starter has been lit up early and often. If Gio is a guy who can do that, even for a stretch of the season, great. If not, another try for Houser, Burnes, Peralta. Then its on to Brown, maybe Nelson. No magical plan here, just keep trying.
  5. Reading the comments today after the Gio signing I'm struggling to understand why there has been so much consternation over what I've been expecting / calling for. That is, stacking the 12 man staff with what are traditionally considered starters and having them used all over the weekly 54-65 innings a team pitches. Today I see people glad another starter was added so a we can shift long men to the pen. Well, that's exactly what I've been arguing for. Get rid of the 1 inning and 1 out specialists and have a staff full of guys who can start one day, give you 3-4 good innings out of the gate and then pitch a couple innings three days later. You'd truly be able to play matchups at all times rather than the current model of "it's Davies turn in the rotation". That's great, except they haven't done that and won't do that. They signed Gio because it's worth the money to find out if he can get through 4-5 innings without disaster. Playing matchups isn't necessary when everyone has a zillion.78 ERA.
  6. Lost in the shuffle, Petricka actually looked really good his last couple outings.
  7. Maybe. But I think we all agree it must be impossible to injure yourself with a soap dispenser while taking a shower.
  8. Yea,good people watching. Edens was wearing a Jamaica tshirt. Not sure if it was for a reason, just seemed like he grabbed any tshirt and threw it on- seemed a little odd. As for Rodgers, imagine if Giannis went barreling into him and they both got seriously injured somehow. That may be most bizarre sports injury ever. (And the Brewers have plenty of their own, so that's saying a lot.)
  9. Evidently there were several Brewers at the game last night. They also kept showing Rodgers and Patrick court side. If you wanted to rub elbows with the swells I suppose last night was the game to be at the Fiserv Forum. Yes, Yelich and Moose were up in a suite as well.
  10. Connaughton with a great game, he is definitely going to stay in the playoff rotation, even when Brogdon returns. Snell may never see the court, healthy or not. Also, apparently Gruber's wife thinks she's front row Amy.
  11. I've always believed a starting pitcher needs either a reliable change or curve. Period. FB/slider combo isn't enough speed variance to keep a batter off-balance. But I figured these are professional coaches that know far more than I do. I still believe that, but scratching my head why none of these guy seem to learn a good off-speed pitch in the system. Bring them up anyhow and then wonder why they fail. Or struggle, if we want to use that word instead. Thing is, a change-up really isn't hard to throw. And there's more than one way to throw it. Is there not a coach in all the land that can't teach these guys how to throw one?
  12. I liked it better when we had one young ace, 2 young TOR starters, and Nelson starting on opening day better than ever. Wow, that did not age well. If Brew Crew 92 ever comes to town trying to sell you on a monorail being the "wave of the future" , run. Run far, far away.
  13. My "scares me" team keeps changing. Over the past few months it's been the Warriors, Celtics, Sixers, and the Raptors. Today it's the Raptors. As CHL said, hey have multiple people who can match-up against Giannis in different ways. Thing is though, Giannis still had big games vs them this year. Unlike the Sixers, Raptors are truly a team and seem to be focused.
  14. Big money/ multi-year deals for relievers are almost always a bad idea. Especially when they're on the wrong side of 28. Hard pass.
  15. Does this HOF start with a Y? Yuni?
  16. I missed this somewhere along the line, what's the story with Jake Gatewood?
  17. He's been hitting really well. A key thing thus far - his walk rate is way up. I hope that means he's recognizing and laying off bad pitches. That would be a big step for him. Of course, it's only a dozen games thus far. Don't want to get too excited. But it's nice to see. Another thing about Erceg that I like, is that - unlike so many young hitters - he doesn't strike out that much. Yea, I first noticed that the other day when he had 3 walks- been keeping my eye on that ever since. High BB rate/ low K rate will serve him well. I always liked his swing gong back to T Rats days, as with all young hitters just a matter of putting it all together. He has easy power, similar to Yelich, so that will take car of itself.
  18. Glad Wilson got used last night now. Kinda makes the "OMG why did they remove CHASE?!?!" insta-reactions sound silly now. There were a lot of really silly insta-reactions last night that didn't make a lot of sense in a game the team had control of pretty handily. I don't think those posts were silly at all. If I remember right, a lot of us were puzzled why he was taken out and figured there must be a reason. Nothing wrong with that, as it was odd for him to come out of the game in that situation. No?
  19. His performance in Sept/Oct shouldn't be ignored. Maybe it was a fluke, but he really hit well in September during the stretch run. In game 163 he really came through, and continued that through the playoffs. That's big to me. I would love him to hit north of .750. Not sure if that will happen, but I would be more than happy if he sat at .725 in the 8th spot. With the defense he brings, and a rah- rah guy in the dugout and clubhouse, he brings a lot to the table. (You can't have 25 guys with his act, or it would get old real fast. But I do think it helps a team to have a couple guys like that.) Finally, another reminder he is still young. Hardy and Segura really struggled for a while and eventually figured it out. Arcia has so much natural talent he really does have a much higher ceiling as a hitter. IMHO, i don't think he gets to the ceiling, but that's ok.
  20. Erceg quietly having a nice start to the season.
  21. Also, they don't NEED the bullpen to be as great as the late last season version. Every team is different. Last year they had to win a lot of games 3-2. Not this year. They have and will win a lot of games 8-4, 7-5, etc. with this lineup.
  22. No, because they did cut the lead in half cumulatively. Factually correct, and everyone understood it too.
  23. We all want them to pour it on! Coach Cooper would give you a one way ticket to the showers if pouring it on wasn't being performed on a nightly basis. Please no. Repressed memories about CC in the showers, and I want to keep them that way.
