  1. He was no WHOA SOLVVD or PrinceFielderxxx but pretty good material for a couple days.
  2. Aguilar: Cards walked 763 guys the last two innings, I think I'll hack at 103 mph fast balls at my shoulders.
  3. [quoteBased on how the game was started, it would have made total sense to stick with it, and not allow Carp to face a righty. For whatever reason, that plan was abandoned, and the decision made failed. How do you know what the plan was? It certainly wasn't to have a lefty face him every ab that's impossible.
  4. It's not hard to figure out. They don't have 5 lefties in the pen to face Carpenter every AB.
  5. Perfect game plan so far for Counsel. 1) Jennings gets his out. Check 2) Tell Braun to a hit a dinger. Check
  6. Encouraging, Flaherty had a clean inning but really didn't fool anyone.
  7. Correct, that's why lineups are exchanged at the same time prior to the start of the game. CC could literally pencil in a change as he's walking over to home plate if he wanted to. Also, good point about the Cards unwritten baseball rules book. NOWHERE in that book does it say you can start a relief pitcher.
  8. Perfect. I believe this is why Thames isn't the leadoff hitter anymore. CC told Stearns it's something they wanted to try. But after doing it a few times, the analytics team put it to the test and the computers literally cried. IT Dept said they've never seen anything like it.
  9. Yea, no need to parse words I thought you were right the first time. No question CC is involved in these discussions every day, but I would be shocked if this idea didn't originate from the front office.
  10. What didn't work is no players or teams anyone has heard of. That's hasn't change. There won't be any XFL FFL, that hasn't changed. The only chance they have is if they could go out and get a group of big name NFL players, and they don't have the money to do that. They barely have enough money to start it up again.
  11. Mixed feelings. I like taking risks at this time of year, can't be afraid to make changes. At the same time, this seems a bit like trying to be too cute. Thing is, if Flaherty dominates us again it doesn't really matter. Better figure him out, because that's who they'll throw at us in the WC and home/away won't matter if he twirls a shut-out.
  12. Yes, people are getting sick of it. But most will still watch. XFL is a joke, people still want to see the best players and teams they're familiar with. The USFL had a chance because they pulled away some big names, but the XFL v2 will not have any top players. They may/ may not be able to carve out a niche audience, but not threaten the NFL.
  13. Interesting, Baez is actually tied with Rendon in fWAR, Cain still the leader in bWAR among position players, with a few pitchers ahead of him.
  14. Interesting No question this is how Anderson feels, and he should feel this way. You should want the ball, that's a good thing. But in the middle of a pennant race, a comment like this doesn't do the team any good. Keep it to yourself Chase.
  15. Back in the 80's when I was a wee lad, I bled Green and Gold. In the 90's, when I was a 20-something, I was ALL IN all the time. I watched every pre-season game to the final down, I paid attention to every roster cut. I listened to the post game show and listened for three hours........ I was ALL IN, just couldn't get enough. Now, I don't watch a down of pre-season football. Haven't for 3-4 years now, if not longer. Last year I watched about 4-5 Packer games, and not a single down of non-Packer NFL football. I don't know..... the NFL has changed, and I just don't care for the product anymore. I'm not a "spoiled" Packer fan. I loved the hell out of this team when they were losers. I watched every game the year they went 4-12 under Favre. This just isn't football the way I, and i'm sure some others grew up watching it. I absolutely am for player safety. I understand sports change, and I get that, and I'm ok with that (and embrace it!), but this version of football just isn't one that I embrace, or honestly even care all that much about. That's ok, and I'm sure there's people that disagree with me and that's ok too. (DISCLAIMER: My stance has nothing to do with the anthem stuff. My drifting away from the NFL has been going on for way longer than that. Just wanted to be very clear on that before we started going down that road) Similar story. I watched every down of every game going back to the mid 70s when they were horrible. Followed the draft in great detail, watched a lot of other games every weekend, etc. Now I still watch the Packers game, but that's it. And I don't even really look forward to the game that much. For those old enough, hearing the words "You are looking live at Lambeau Field" made me giddy with excitement. Even though back then pretty good chance I was about to see a loss. What is a catch, what is a legal block, what is a wr pick, sack, pi, illegal contact etc. Its become what the game is all about. Perfect example. Bulaga gets called for holding, and he was. But the defensive player was pushing Bulagas face mask up at the same time. Blatantly and for several seconds. So the ref saw the holding but not that? I don't care about making the game safe. Besides, the league doesnt care about the linemen crashing into each other every play, including Helmut to Helmut. But the camera doesnt show most of that, so its ok. I don't want to see players injured, but if it happens within the old rules I just saw it as part of the game. Lots of people go to work every day with occupations where they could be injured or even killed. I believe fantasy football is the only thing keeping ratings from cratering. As for me, watching the Packers is in my DNA, so they got me.
  16. Has he been on Johnny Bench's bench? No, but he's benched the way Mench was benched by swinging the bat like a wrench.
  17. Pirates are a "solid" club, whatever that means. Yes, if the Brewers lost 14 of 16 to the White Sox that would be a problem. I chalk this up to randomness more than anything else, I don't put much stock in opponent records for a season.
  18. Those work. Or something like "Sorry advanced metrics, we're here!" or "Suck it Fangraphs, we made it"
  19. My problem is why fix what isn't broken? I literally can't remember the last time where pitching has been the reason they lost the game. A playoff game is not a good time to experiment with starting a guy who hasn't started all year. I'm sure Hader would be up for the challenge, but again I wouldn't mess with what's working. Let's face it, if the Brewers get shut-out or only put up one run it really doesn't matter if Drake starts.
  20. Always love the fact Joey Meyer owns it when he was wrong, very refreshing I must say. (And don't worry Joey, you had a lot of company on that position.)
