Green would only use an option this year if he was sent back down to the minors. He has to be put on the 40-man roster at the end of the season or he will be available in the Rule 5 draft.

We will have a backup outfielder that can run after Gomez comes back. I think Gamel or Green would accept a backup role in return for MLB service time and a MLB paycheck.

What is the norm for players in Kotsay's role? I can't stress enough how much I don't care how a player in Kotsay's role typically hits. We have better options. They should be used.

I was just thinking that the only thing I would want Yuni on the team for is to hit a sac fly at least the run should score but hey the squeeze worked that one time lets keep doing it.

Wolf has the best ERA among starters, and we're deep enough into the season where that's not a small sample anymore. ERA will always have sample problems no matter how far you are into the season.

Don't forget starting 0-4. They had very little adversity in my opinion. Even good teams go through bad stretches. One or two players getting hurt isn't going to kill a season. Look at the Twins last year. They lost Morneau and Nathan. I agree it is debatable how much credit to give the manager. I think just about anybody could have come in and managed the team and matched the record. We just happened to go from a guy with no personality last year to a guy who actually keeps up communication with his players like he is supposed to. I also think many people are projecting their own feelings onto the team and players at least a little. Everything is better when the team is winning.

I don't see how you can say that as a matter of absolute fact. I think RR, for all his many faults, does get major points for being a "players manager." That was the book on him coming in, and the Brewers have strongly reinforced this as the year has gone on. He may or may not be a good player's manager. This is a good team. They have never had much adversity and it is very easy to get along when things are that easy. Sure we are but we have really bad hitters at SS and 3B this year so the offense can be made up somewhat there. Gamel doesn't even have to hit anywhere near as well as Fielder. Like you said the defense should improve as well.

Other than that he's one of the best hitters in the game at the peak of his career, and part of the reason Miller Park is full game after game, I tend to agree. Miller Park is full because we are winning games. Fielder will be overpaid and not signing him frees up money to improve the team so there is a good chance we are better off without Fielder at market value. Money isn't unlimited for the Brewers.

The difference is that Gamel seems like he has decent fielding instincts, Braun never did and still doesn't. Gamel can field but can't throw. Braun really couldn't field well or throw.

The slight increase (if any) with Gamel's bat will likely be more than lost with Gamel playing RF. Gamel's is athletic and problem with defense is throwing. I doubt he would be any worse in the outfield than Hart or Kotsay. Add in that he actually has some power and I see no way he would be worse than Kotsay right now.

Much of this credit (IMHO) goes to RRR for having his team focused and loose. This is a very talented team and would be winning a lot whomever was the manager. I don't see any point in resigning Fielder. He is likely to get much much more than he is worth. If Greinke and Marcum want to sign extensions at a decent rate, do it. Otherwise let the walk. Our long term success is dependent upon not overpaying for players. We can be just as good or better next year with Gamel at 1B, an upgrade at SS and a strengthening the bench.

Neither Green nor Gamel are AAA scrubs. Losing either one for next year would suck. I never advocated sending McGehee down. Hart and McGehee, even if he is playing well, are not the type of players that need to play every game during the week. They are exactly the type of guys you sub out once or twice a week for a decent hitter with the platoon advantage. Green and Gamel make so much sense to soft platoon with those guys it is sickening it hasn't happened yet. Ikno, I know, I have advocated that again and again and again.

It would be nice to have a competent left-handed hitter other than Fielder, Morgan and Kottaras.

The statement that "every AAA scrub that comes up here . . . struggle(s) and falter(s)" is demonstrably false Well technically most players fail at least 60% of the time at the plate. Green may fail like Fielder fails or he may fail like Counsell fails. I think the problem is that geddy fails to define what fail means. I prefer to believe that he means Green and Gamel will fail like Weeks fails. I think he is overestimating their talent. They won't hit quite that well but should be expected to fail less than Kotsay, Lopez, Counsell, Betancourt, Wilson or McGehee have so far this year.

I am surprised Kotsay can even hit a ball to the warning track.

This is the lowest BB rate of Morgan's career. I would expect him to continue hitting as well as he has this year over the next few years, especially if he is platooned which he should be with Gomez also on the roster.

This lineup is Exhibit A why we need to bring up Gamel and Green. Replace Lopez with Green and Kotsay with Gamel in the lineup and it doesn't look so bad. DM needs to sit DPR down and explain that Hairston is a better player than Betancourt. I think he just wrote in Fielder and Braun then picked names out of a hat.

Others have already touched this but let me just add this. Of those 4, the highest, the HIGHEST, OBP amongst them is .316. Lopez's is .279, Counsell's is .250 and Hairston's is .154. None of those are good. Actually Hairston's is .323 for this year. Green will struggle and falter just like every AAA scrub that comes up here. Guys hitting over .300 and over .400 OBP in AAA are a dime a dozen, and pitching in the PCL is horrific. The only way some people are satisfied is by proving how futile they are at the plate and wasting an option. The only way this gets solved is by posting a horrible major league line and throwing him back to AAA, and saying "I told ya so". Thank goodness Melvin doesn't listen to the masses. I don't even know where to start with this one so I will just laugh and move on to discussing the topic with other people.

It is debatable that Wilson, Counsell, and Lopez are talented enough to be MLB players. I think we need to get it out of our heads the just because a guy has played in the majors he is somehow better than guys in AAA.

Impressions of Roenicke so far (part 2)

How could Roenicke platoon a player with McGehee that was in Nashville? His question was Logan, how many more wins do you think the Brewers would have if management would have followed your opinions on personnel moves this year? It asked about personnel moves. As for platooning Morgan/Gomez from the get go, there weren't that many games which went by before RR went to the platoon. I also included hitting Gomez towards the top of the order and Kotsay in CF along with the platoon to add up to one win.
