  1. About 2-3. 3-4 by the end of the season. We probably pick up 1 for using Loe properly. 1 for going to a Morgan/Gomez platoon from the start, never putting Kotsay in CF and dropping Gomez down the order. 1 from not sac bunting in the first inning and platooning Green with McGehee starting in late May or early June. I know 2-3 doesn't sound like much but it could be huge by the end of the season. That ignores the whole Nieves debacle at the start of the season. As it is right now, Morgan should probably be in CF full time until Gomez returns. Hariston should be at 2B against LHP and at SS against RHP. I know the bench players' role will be reduced a bit if we make the playoffs but if they do come into the game it is going to be for high leverage PA. I don't want to see any of the guy currently on our bench hitting in an important spot in the post season.
  2. So, the rest of the bench needs to be revamped much more dramatically than his spot. The problem is that there is a good chance Gamel of Green could come up and put up better numbers than Kotsay with improved defense. We still have Boggs hanging out in AAA who could put up better numbers and we know he would bring better defense. Counsell and Wilson escape the criticism a bit since we don't have a readily available replacement in AAA. Kotsay, Counsell and Lopez should all be replaced once Weeks is healthy.
  3. Yuni and Kotsay should not be playing as much as they are. Kotsay shouldn't even be on the roster. Yuni should be relegates to starting against LHP and being replaced on defense late in games. Green for Counsell, Gamel for Kotsay and Yuni moved further down the pecking order below Hairston. Some fault on DM for the roster, some fault on the manager for no having a clue about the talent level of the players on the roster outside of the obvious stars.
  4. My point is simply that sometimes the manager deserves the benefit of the doubt. Just because the stats don't corroborate a decision does not mean it's the wrong decision, at least not in this case. Even if Braun shouldn't be playing there are better choices than Kotsay in LF and the 3 hole.
  5. You completely missed his point. I believe his point is the manager somehow has more access so he will know when a player is more likely to succeed. The results dispute that assumption. The manager may know when a player is more likely to succeed. My point is that the manager fails to take into account the difference in actual talent.
  6. Yes, he's very good at managing to a "Well, duh." bullpen style. The fact is, there are higher leverage situations where KRod could (and IMO, should) be used and won't be, and Loe or Estrada will be. He still has no clue how to make a lineup, and no idea how valuable solid defense and the ability to draw a walk are, as Lopez keeps on starting, despite Hairston being better in all facets of the game. Yuni starting at SS over Hairston against a RHP actually bothers me more than Lopez over Hairston at 2B against RHP. I really hope Melvin DPR proofs the roster a bit more before the end August. If he does I think this team can be special instead of merely very good.
  7. Because of lefty/righty matchupsHow about Yuni over Hairston?
  8. the guy who is around all of these players every single day, can't accurately gauge who is ready to succeed. You are right. Kotsay's .304 OBP and .330 SLG proves the manager knows when Kotsay will succeed.
  9. He does understand his players. He fails to understand their abilities or lack thereof.
  10. Don't you think you are going a little over the top in your criticisms of everything? I don't want to sounds rude but you have had it in for the guy from Day #1 and find any excuse to rail on him. No, I don't. I fail to see how pointing out a series of poor decisions is railing on a guy.
  11. I just want to make the point that the Brewers were 4 games up in a playoff spot on 8/12/2008. It really hasn't been that long. That barely turned out ok. The manager has earned no benefit of the doubt to this point. He has consistently made bad decision after bad decision especially with decisions involving Kotsay.
  12. RR & Melvin have put together a team that has the 5th best record in baseball behind NYY, BOS, PHI, and ATL and we are still complaining about minor leaguers who may or may not be good major leaguers not getting called up? Melvin put together a pretty good team which has won games in spite of the manager. The really big mistakes Melvin has made are leaving the manager his favorite toy(Kotsay) and a steaming pile of shortstops. You really think if we would be starting Green at 3rd since June and somehow find a place to play Gamel that that would result in a 5 win improvement? Who said a 5 game improvement?
  13. RR has the Brewers in the best position they have been in many posters lifetimes This team is in this position despite the manager.
  14. I don't mind resting Braun tonight. So, 2 games wore Braun out? This is going to be a very very long couple months if Braun wears out after 2 games.
  15. Yep they are adding up to a 5 game lead in the division and being 17 games over .500 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But you are right there have been confusing moves throughout the year We should be more than 5 games up at this point.
  16. It seems like the Brewers are taking a hard line on their "don't throw minor leaguers to the wolves during a pennant race," mentality. That would explain A LOT. No Gamel, no Green, refusal to start a minor leaguer who is stretched out instead of a mediocre reliever who isn't. So many bad fringe decisions this year they are adding up.
  17. Now all DPR has to do to complete the trifecta for the day is put in Loe against a left handed hitter with the game on the line.
  18. Piggybacking Estrada and Dillard would be more consistent with prior statements and the safer choice, probably. NO it wouldn't be safe at all. Dillard should not face left handed hitters. Ever.
  19. At least Kotsay can play in the OF while Overbay can not. Overbay could probably match the "defense" Kotsay brings.
  20. Give Ale Asylum (Madison) a try if you haven't yet. I was unimpressed with their Dubbel and most of the rest of their stuff is not readily available. I will give them a try though.
  21. I don't see any parallels between exhibition games and inter divisional playoff stretch baseball Between the actual games no but how the results are being interpreted yes.
  22. There are a few parallels with this streak and Gomez in Spring Training. Hitting well and still no walks. Change in approach, or is it?
