  1. It's also important to remember that he's 25 years old. I think that a lot of people truly don't know how young he is. Lorenzo Cain is 25 years old, too. No one here was too quick to run him out of town, yah? Cain didn't have 1000 MLB PA at the start of last season. Gomez has still shown no signs of improvement in all that time. In fact his O-swing% last year was worse than at any other time in his career since his first year and his Z-swing was the lowest. We will see how this year turns out but he has plenty of MLB PA and really has shown little or no improvement in his approach or results. He is what he is, a fantastic defender with no plate discipline.
  2. I heard something about Kotsay in CF. I chalked it up to a bad dream. Tip R is really actively trying to get me to dislike him.
  3. People were able to match their favorite American style lager only a third of the time. Point being, taste is more about perception and visual stimuli than it is about taste in and of itself. Or, the other way that could be read is that most people are stupid and ignorant and what they can or can't do doesn't matter. Unless you are going to decide what you like based on what me and some other guy say. I thought their point in Beer Wars was that all the main light American lagers were made to be as tasteless and bland as possible to appeal to the biggest group of people possible. In fact I think that is what they stated.
  4. I hope you bought a lot of beer. You may need enough to drown today unless things change.
  5. I have been saying for years we should replace our manager with a stack of spreadsheets. The in game decisions would at least make sense.
  6. I don't think people are saying that coaching doesn't help. Just that all the coaching is pretty much equal once you get to the majors. A tweak here a tweak there. When you fire a hitting coach or even a manager all you are doing is changing names. Nothing else.
  7. If it is all about good coaching how come Bautista is the exception rather than the rule?
  8. A-Rod isn't in the same class as A-rod anymore. Weeks had a better wOBA than A-Rod and almost identical to Teixiera last year. So did Hart. Given A-Rod's age it is just as possible he is starting to decline as last year was just an "off" year. Maybe more probable he is in decline.
  9. I think you need to reexamine Weeks as a hitter. He is one of the best hitters in MLB.
  10. I think Gomez 7th would be a good idea. We have crappy hitters in the bottom of the order so a guy who can get to 2B by himself has more value hitting in front of those guys. At least then he is probably at least at 2B when the pitcher sacrifices, which they frequently do.
  11. Vegas makes those lines based on how it thinks people will bet not on actual talent of the team. 3 good hitters. You have to include Weeks. Almost any team in the majors would take Weeks, Braun or Fielder.
  12. Probably true. Not really his fault but there needs to be a lamb. I want to make very clear I hate making moves just to "shake things up." It gives many fans a warm fuzzy feeling but I feel really accomplishes nothing.
  13. Sigh of relief?*sigh* *facepalm* Gomez still #2 in the batting order. Read that any way you want.
  14. *sigh* Gomez still #2 in the batting order. Read that any way you want.
  15. There is a really good wine store in Oshkosh, Appleton as well. McKnight & Carlson. I have not been there in a few years but they used to have a really good selection of wines in the $10-15 range. They know their stuff too. You can go in and let them know what you like and they will point you to several similar wines. They used to give case and half case discounts as well. You could mix and match to get a case. I still want to find something similar in the Madison area.
  16. I just started last August. I still only extract brew. Actually just got done brewing a dubbel and bottling a dunkel weisse today. I went with this kit from Midwest. Northern Brewer is good too. I would recommend starting with an ale in the 1.030-1.050 OG range. Pick something you like. Dry yeast gets good results for most beers(where the yeast doesn't drive the flavor in the style, for example pale ales) and is simpler to use than liquid. Not to mention less expensive. I honestly use mostly dry. Get a good no rinse sanitizer like Star San or Idophor. I use Star San in a spray bottle mixed with distilled water. We are still on our first 8oz bottle of Star San after 16 batches. You can read more about homebrewing here. It is a little outdated and makes things sound a lot harder than it really is but still has a lot of good free information. Homebrewtalk.com is a really good website for information as well. If you want to know about something google it and type homebrewtalk after what you are searching for. You will usually get 4+ threads on your topic. Sorry, I didn't intend to write up that much information when I started my response.
  17. Yes. I debated that, but decided that (so far, at least) the king is kind of an adjunct of the Lannisters. He has relatives. They probably are not introduced yet though. The story is pretty straight forward so far even in the books.
  18. Not Trip R's fault Morgan got injured but Morgan shouldn't be bunting in the first place so he bears some responsibility for putting Morgan in that position in the first place.
  19. Counsell used to play plus defense. At his age I think we can reasonably question whether he can still play plus defense.
  20. That is hilarious. I was just coming here to post how mesmerized I was watching my yeast starter on the computer desk. Now I want a stir plate. I plan on brewing a Belgian Dubbel today.(only 1.065 OG, probably) Wyeast 1214 starter going here. It just keeps bubbling. This is the first time using my 2000 mL Erlenmeyer flask.
  21. Yeah it isn't to confusing yet. If it follows the books you will be introduced to 3-5 more houses. Who knows though, they might not get the other houses involved. I notice you left out house Bartheon.
  22. I think you have to stick Hart #2 because he is the next best hitter after Fielder, Braun and Week. He will eventually hit. Gomez won't.
  23. They didn't think Capuano would need surgery either.
  24. Step off the ledge or step back from the ledge. I vote step off.
  25. That's the problem. Without knowing how that stacks up against teams historically you are just throwing things against the wall. You need context to read anything inot it.
