  1. I know he had knee issues which effect his mobility but moving him to first to replace Fielder will be a negative for the team since it will be a reduction in offense and probably defense. If Fielder is moved there will be a reduction in offense regardless of who plays where. We should not get caught up in the "will a guy hit enough to play a position" stuff. Gamel at 3B and McGehee at 1B will yield the same offense as McGehee at 3B and Gamel at 1B. As for the defense, I think that Gamel has the tools to be a better defender than McGehee. It isn't like McGehee is a very good defender at 3B. He is slightly below average to average. He isn't very athletic so I don't see him improving. Either McGehee or Gamel at 1B would be learning.
  2. usually a GM doesn't get to hire as many managers as Melvin has and still have a lot of job security It is kind of questionable wether he actually fired one of his managers though. Not to many managers get fired while in contention with only a few games remaining.
  3. Ask yourself--if McGehee was a 4th round draft pick for the Brewers 7 years ago, worked his way through an unspectacular minor league career, but won a spot with the club out of spring training and continued to have the success that he has had the last two years, would you still think Gamel is a better option with more upside? Yes. McGehee hasn't exactly put up great numbers. He has a career .342/.464/.812 MLB line. He had a .337/.464/.801 line this year. I think Gamel can at least match McGehee's numbers from this year. Probably with a better OBP.
  4. I won a birdhouse deck in an online contest once. It just showed up in the mail one day. I don't even remember entering. I guess it was a pretty good one but I was never a skater.
  5. I'd still like to see those AAA stats show themselves at the big club level before I assume Gamel can be penciled in if others go. You're not big on the small Brewer sample and I'm not impressed by AAA stats. It's still a big leap to the big league club. Those numbers are exactly why we can pencil him in the MLB lineup. If we waited until a guy proved himself at the MLB level we would be constantly trading minor leaguers for major leaguers and signing free agents.
  6. Weeks out hit McGehee and played defense at least as good at a tougher position. McGehee had more RBI's thou so this makes perfect sense to me. It should be subtitled "Baseball writers perpetuating the use of mostly useless stats."
  7. Sierra Nevada is teaming up with a monastery to create 3 Trappist beers next year. A dubbel, saison and a Quad. Goose Island will not be releasing their winter seasonal because they don't have the room. They are not keeping up with the demand of some of their other beers.
  8. Per Cot's
  9. They have those notes available on their website all year long. Top right go to "news" and select game notes from the drop down menu. They also have an archive so you can look back at previous years. They have them for every single team.
  10. Milwaukee competes against the Cardinals and Cubs who will spend money. The Reds also have more young talent than we do. Houston may be a mess now but that may change in a couple years. The only bad team we are clearly better than is the Pirates and that may also change quick as they seem to be moving in the right direction.
  11. Of course it looked like we were going through the motions. We started poorly and really were not in contention from the first week on. In the 3 previous years we were in or close to first place for at least half the season. 2007 we missed the playoffs by one game. 2008 we made the playoffs. 2009 we ere in first place into July. There was little to get excited about this year. We are expecting to win as opposed to just being excited about having good players coming up like we were before 2008. They were flat because they were losing or looked flat because of our feelings about the team.
  12. Looks like LaRussa is in talks with Cardinals management. Not really that impressive when there are more than 25 guys including September callups. I am willing to bet that Rasmus isn't to thrilled to have LaRussa back.
  13. Just wait till next year when they get Cliff Lee.
  14. We probably have better young talent but we don't have the resources of Seattle.
  15. Flash forward to this season, where it looked like they were mostly going through he motions. Teams tend to look that way when they are not winning. It was different when we were not expected to win.
  16. Why would anybody trade for Hart when they could sign 2 guys to platoon in a corner outfield spot for less money and probably get better defense. Hart is one of my 2 favorite players and I still didn't like the deal.
  17. Seattle is a much much better job than Milwaukee. They actually have a good amount of money they can spend along with a good amount of young talent.
  18. Rally racer made by Subaru. A very successful rally racer. The thing was made to drive off road.
  19. Whew dodged that one.
  20. I seem to remember early in the season Macha saying he was giving Escobar days off because he was tired from playing winter ball. I also remember the talk about winter ball being almost more important to some players than playing in the majors. Typically the only players playing winter ball or in the fall leagues for the Brewers are guys who missed a lot of time because of injury or players who are close to the majors getting a few more at bats. I have to imagine this is Escobar's decision.
  21. Is this something the Brewers pushed for or Escobar wants to do on his own?
  22. I meant Narveson and Villanueva actually but I will lump them all together.
  23. Narveson and Parra should be huge reminders of what a few innings in September mean about future success.
  24. Crap, I hate seeing our daily players participating in winter leagues instead of resting and getting ready for next season.
