  1. He's just now paying attention?Well he did have all those internet infomercials to do.
  2. I think middle infielders should have a day off about once every other week. I am also not sure Weeks is really in as good of shape as he would be if he had played last year. Last time he had this similar injury it took a year to heal. I think he is about at a year. Outside of 1B I wouldn't play anybody 162 games and probably not even a 1B.
  3. If we are not going anywhere this year we might as well stick with the old guys and push back service time of the youngsters. It is cheaper in the short and long term.
  4. Why would you pull out the player who is probably our best defender right now(Weeks)?
  5. I really don't have a problem with Hoffman being signed either. I have a problem with how much and how soon they signed him. I really don't have much problem with the Hawkins signing. He was ok and got hurt. We are not paying him enough for me to get to excited about.
  6. OBP is generally thought to be worth about 1.8-2 times as much as SLG so OPS undervalues OBP. I think your statistic is going the wrong direction. I am sure there are other people who can give you a much better explanation.
  7. Our pitching staff compares favorably to the Mets in K/9, BB/9 GB%, LD% and FB%. The only huge differences are our LOB% is 8% higher and our BABIP is .336 compared to .308 and of course our ERA is 5.27 compared to their 3.89. I would have to conclude most, but not all, of our pitching problems are defense based.
  8. I am 50/50 ion this move. Estrada has pitched well but I would like a better chance to get that run across. Hopefully Estrada can keep pitching well.
  9. Nice defense by McGehee to help out the other corner who missed one earlier in the inning.
  10. I know it has been posted several other times, especially by endaround, but I have to go with our bad infield defense as a big part of the problem. Weeks has probably been our best infield defender. Escobar has been below average despite his obvious physical skills. Fielder and McGehee have both been below average as well. I was expecting McGehee to be better with a fixed knee but he still doesn't look like a good defender.
  11. That article leaves out a big quote from the other side. The Cardinals' hypocrisy knows no bounds.
  12. Manuel A. Parra in 2001 looks kind of familiar as well. . I think that would be a huge mistake. I would prefer somebody with a more statistical approach who is also good with scouts.
  13. It has to be the guy who digs up the baseball mud. James Bintliff
  14. Well at least the bullpen only has to cover 2 innings on the road if the starter only goes 6. That means the 6 innings Gallardo pitched is just as good as 7 innings at home, right.....right?
  15. Just to clarify - it's not a preference. It's just what I think is going to happen.I would have to agree especially if Melvin is still around. We will have to hire a "baseball guy." ugh
  16. I would like them to hire none of the above. Don't hire a manager another team fired. You are just going to get the same crappy mistakes Yost and Macha make.
  17. From what I am hearing over in the Minor League Forum, Weeks is probably the better option at 2B.
  18. Gallardo relies on location as much as the other guys. He doesn't have enough velocity to get away with bad location either.
  19. Gallardo isn't exactly a hard thrower either. He works in the low 90's most of the time.
  20. I'm as much about developing young players as I am about winning games. If there is a chance at the playoffs I am about winning games. At this point I think we are even further outside looking in than we were at the start of the season. I think either way Parra is one of our best 5 options for the starting rotation. At this point I think we should cut Suppan since the few extra games we would lose using him instead of a worse pitcher are likely not going to cause us to miss our on winning a playoff spot. Of course I am not opposed to keeping Suppan either to keep service clocks from starting.
  21. Hawkins' contract is still pretty small and he started out pretty good. There is still hope he can be pretty good for us.
  22. I wasn't to enthusiastic about the Brewers at the start of the season.(probably in no small part because I doubt I will be going to any games, I find I am not as enthusiastic if I don't get to a game periodically) So far they have done nothing to peak my interest. My expectations were a little above .500, 83ish wins I think. I may adjust that down a bit at this point but I still don't think playing a little above .500 ball the rest of the season is out of the question. I would go with about 81 wins and sellers at the deadline. Hopefully sellers if we are not within 3-4 games of a playoff spot. I would really hate to see us going the Astros route.
  23. What a dolt. Every team competes for 9 innings unless they are at home and winning in the bottom of the 9th. The reason they are in games is because they are a good team. To be honest, Weeks and any middle infielder should get a game off at least once every other week. The only positions that should play every game if they are good enough are 1B and the corner outfield spots. I would even give those guys a day off a month minimum. Weeks playing every day, especially after a year off is ridiculous.
  24. Hart against LHP and Gerut/Edmonds against RHP fit the #2 hole very well. Much better than burying them at the bottom of the order in favor of much worse hitters in Gomez and Escobar.
