  1. I guess Braun outhit Fielder in that year but I would take Fielder's line over Braun's since Fielder had a much higher OBP. I would call Fielder's year more valuable that Braun's.
  2. Well that game will throw off the Pythagorean record for the year.
  3. A lot of what you just said would apply to the Brewers 5 years ago. Their fire sale last year was a step in the right direction.
  4. Not to work on their hitting. I think both could use the work behind the plate though. I don't think they would get enough work behind the plate if they were both on the same team. Nobody was critical of him for leaving his wife behind to go to Spring Training. They were critical of him saying he would miss the birth of his child to stay at Spring Training, which he didn't. You make it sound like the same people were critical of him no matter what. That is simply not true. Some thought he should see his child born, some liked his commitment to the Brewers.
  5. If you look at wOBA, RBOE has a slightly higher value than a single.
  6. The Pirates could have a much higher payroll if the desired. Their GM stated that it didn't make any sense to pay big money for free agents just to increase payroll. I think we will see some Braun type deals done by the Pirates in the next couple years. They took their revenue sharing money and reinvested it in Scouting and building a baseball academy in South America somewhere.
  7. I am loving that play the outfielders in the gap defense.
  8. So you say. I believe he has just had the good fortune of managing good teams.
  9. Escobar puts the ball on the ground a lot. 50% so far in his MLB career. That is more than Kendall. He also grounded into 13 double plays in AAA last year. 2nd on the AAA team.
  10. You mean the guy who over manages? LaRussa isn't good either.
  11. Edmonds not only in the bottom but back to back with Kottaras. What the crap Macha. Your lineups were pretty good for the last week. Get Gomez back in the bottom. Just because he had a few good days doesn't mean he can hit.
  12. People thought I was crazy when I said Yost may have been the best manager in the division. I still believe that says more about just how bad managers are in general than Yost being good. At least he never sent Sheets to the bullpen.
  13. Making the team better will tend to do that regardless of how it is done. Fielder has very little draw to fans beyond making a team better.
  14. Well that sucks. Whoever told Joe Morgan to keep his day job deserves a swift kick in the nuts.
  15. Prince's addition sparked a revenue spike. Are you saying that when the Brewers added Fielder there was a revenue spike? If so I mostly disagree. I don't think Fielder was the cause of that spike. He came up at a time when the team improved. We didn't have that huge increase in attendance till his 2nd and third years and that coincided with the team actually having a chance at a winning record and the playoffs. The closer you get to the majors, the more "certainty" you have. I'd much rather get some AA/AAA talent than the draft picks Of course to somewhat refute my own statement even top prospects fail. Not as often as draft picks though.
  16. Even with how disappointing many though Weeks was as a player, he carried a decent career OBP(.351) and was at least average as a 2B(as a hitter anyway, defense is another issue but he seems to be improving).
  17. Draft picks fail at a very high rate, especially pitchers. You have a much better idea what you are getting with AAA or AA players with the added benefit that they are probably 2-3 years closer to being ready than draft picks. So you are taking a chance on 1.5 years of Fielder + nothing or very little.
  18. I like the current format. If they are trying to realign for competitive balance they are ignoring the real issue.
  19. If I am not mistaken Nashville and Huntsville are bigger markets than Milwaukee. I agree that it is in our best interest to leave the teams where they are as long as the stadiums are up to par.
  20. When did AA/AAA players start becoming more valuable to a franchise than the superstar players on the MLB roster? They aren't in any one year. A guy you will have multiple years is more valuable than a guy who will only be with you for the next year. Especially if you are not going to be competing for a playoff spot.
