  1. No, all you have to do is look at the stats that show Cameron is better.
  2. "The rules" applied to Hall as well, but he was asked to go down twice, and accepted on the second ask even though he didn't have to. I'm sure a class act like Suppan wouldn't object to going down to Nashville to make himself better, would he? Hall has stunk for almost 3 years now. JJ only had one bad year. The situations are not comparable at all. In fact, they sent JJ down much quicker than Hall. It really doesn't sound like they have made up their mind on Escobar either. Sounds like better than 50/50 odds JJ is the starter from the outset next year.
  3. I finally got around to making gyros. I bought gyro meat at Johnsons Sausage Shoppe in Rio. We thought the meat was pretty good. I used this recipe for the tzatziki sauce. I quartered the recipe. 2 English cucumbers 2 (16 ounce) containers sour cream 1 (16 ounce) container Greek yogurt 2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Peel cucumbers and grate into a colander. Squeeze out excess water. Mix together sour cream, yogurt, garlic, and olive oil in a large bowl. Stir in cucumbers. Chill at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours before serving.
  4. I am not sure how much emphasis the Brewers place on defense, but we are 10th in the league in UZR/150. We are closer to being #8 than we are #11.(closer to #6 than #12 as well) The Brewers also had a very solid defensive team in 2008.
  5. or Lopez could fall back to his career numbers and that would kind of suck.
  6. In a pregame interview with BA, Macha mentioned that JJ would be back up in a few days. It certainly sounds like he will be a September callup. More than likely before the 20 day minimum.
  7. I think in Bush's case this year we are better off going with his ERA at the point of his injury which I believe was about 4.58. It inflated greatly after the Florida start where he got hit on the arm. Saying Bush is a 5+ ERA pitcher is probably not true.
  8. The league average ERA you cite is for all pitchers. What is the league average ERA for starters only? Here is the article Al referred to earlier about starter ERA. Link Lg #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 MLB 3.60 4.14 4.58 5.10 6.24 AL 3.70 4.24 4.58 5.09 6.22 NL 3.51 4.04 4.57 5.11 6.26
  9. I guess I should have been clearer. Hall's good years in the majors kind of came out of nowhere. He wasn't a good hitter in the minors. Hardy was a good hitter and we shouldn't expect his good years in the majors to be and aberration like Hall's.
  10. The Hall and Hardy situations are not the same at all. Hardy, unlike Hall, could hit in the minors.
  11. The record of the club who signs the player doesn't matter for sandwich picks. The picks are assigned in reverse order of the record of the teams receiving compensation. The Special Draft Choices described in subparagraph © above shall be additional draft choices to be made immediately following the first complete round of the draft and preceding the commencement of the second round. Clubs that have lost a Type APlayer shall receive the first selections, in the reverse order of their won-lost percentage in the preceding season. Following these selections, Clubs that have lost a Type B Player shall receive selections, in reverse order of their won-lost percentage in the preceding season. Ties shall be broken by lot.
  12. This time spent in the majors by Escobar right now is practically meaningless. The only thing that might matter is if they want to gain another year of Escobar. In that case they would have to keep him in the minors almost half a season next year. If Hardy is left in the minors long enough to gain an extra year of service time I think it is 50/50 who will be our SS next year. Whoever brings back the biggest return will be traded.
  13. I think we got Bizarro Escobar so far. His defense has been bad and his offense good. That isn't to say I think he will be a bad defender, but he has been pretty bad to this point.
  14. I'd love to know (out of a weird sense of curiosity, not as a stick to beat anyone with), how many people who are magnificent at being frugal with the monthly budget, buy the wayyy overpriced beer at Miller Park? Does the superb budgeting also apply to ballpark concessions too, or are they regarded as a necessary evil? I almost never drink beer at the ballpark and always carry a soft sided cooler in with soda and sandwiches. If I drink beer on gameday it is usually one or two on the walk in. The only thing I might buy at the ballpark is ice cream.
  15. I can easily see the eating on $100 or less a month until you add kids. ...or beer.
  16. I would recommend Wal-Mart for box items like cereal or canned goods that are piratically the same anywhere. I would not recommend them for meat of fruit.
  17. Honestly, if anything has become difficult for me to enjoy, it's the increase in angry and often repetitive posts that have cropped up in many places on this message board. I agree. This season in and of itself hasn't been to hard to enjoy. Brewer baseball is great. We only get 162 games a year. This forum is getting more and more difficult to enjoy. I don't particularity enjoy negativity for the most part, but there is negativity with thought and straight out venting. More and more posts are becoming of the venting variety. I understand that in specific game threads. I just expect a little more from this forum. This season is a letdown because I thought we would at least be in playoff competition.
  18. No, the generic brands/store brands are not better than name brands. They are somewhat comparable though. The quality is slightly lower. I have first hand experience with a canning factory. Beans specifically. I would stay away from Wal-Mart meat. They add a lot of food coloring to make meat look better.
  19. Parra delivered a 4.39 ERA in 2008. I personally consider that pretty good. I think this year is an aberration on his stat line. Even in this year his FIP is only 4.66.
  20. 2.8 was the apparent break even point with an 80M payroll. Is 2.8M in attendance attainable if they trot a similar team out there next year? I doubt it. I think the attendance is more dependent on the previous year's success than the team put on the field. So on that note it doesn't matter who is trotted out as much as how the team finishes. A strong finish probably helps the attendance next year.
  21. This is a great way to circumvent the vent thread rules.
  22. but a strike out with one out and guys on second and third is much 'worse' than actually putting the ball in play. Cameron has 10 PA with runners on 2nd and 3rd this year. 0 strikeouts. Nobody would deny that in certain situations a strikeout is worse than a regular out. Trying to break things down under 100 PA and trying to claim they are anything other than very random makes for a very weak argument.
  23. I responded to Louis over in the Statistical Analysis forum.
  24. Top half of the first round. I kind of doubt they will sign a Type A guy though.
