  1. Also, everybody that has already marked off Jeffress is crazy. Why is that? Even before being caught using a drug of abuse and being suspended for a 2nd time, he still showed a lack of control and was being talked about as more of a reliever than a starter.
  2. How much has he complained since the one time last year?
  3. A few years ago after they drafted Lawrie, we all felt pretty good about our catching situation. That was last year.
  4. I already have that bet with FTJ. Kendall vs Gallardo. I am winning right now, but Gallardo hitting a couple dingers would swing things pretty quick. Either. If Kendall would come back as a backup and mentor for around $1M I say sign him.(provided Macha isn't the manager, Kendall is Macha kryptonite) Anything more and I would rather take our chances with Lucroy/Salome/Rivera/Corporan. Along those same lines. If Macha is brought back, I think we need to trade McGehee as well so Gamel can play. Either that or move Gamel to the outfield and trade Hart.
  5. Kendall has stated he wants to retire as a Brewer. I don't see him coming back as a backup or tutor though. I also wouldn't want to pay for his bat again.
  6. Right. His defense has been bad at 3B this year. I have a more through post on my opinion of his defense earlier in the thread. To sum up, I think he will be average and I believe Gamel could match or better his defense.
  7. Thank you Fox sports for making me laugh. At least they got it right in the article. Link
  8. That's why he jumped on the chance to acquire Butler, a move everyone blasted Melvin for last season. I will be honest. If Butler pans out, the trade will be good long term, but I will never believe it didn't hurt us last year or this year.
  9. But he's been switching between 2nd and 3rd base all year. It's not like he played 2nd before he got hurt and then switched to 3rd after he got hurt. I know, but I believe he was known as a solid defender in the minors. The only thing I can find about him is Totalzone and that seems to indicate he is about average. Link Gamel meanwhile has a reputation as a poor defender but seems to have made strides according to Totalzone. Link In my opinion, Gamel is the better player on offense and I thought he looked as good on defense as McGehee. I thought Gamel looked like he had better range. I wouldn't make any kind of decision based on just the defensive stats from this year though.
  10. I would think some of McGehee's UZR has been brought down because of playing nicked up. His UZR/150 at 2B is 4.8 over 179.2 innings and -48.3 over 150 innings at 3B.
  11. If we are in a salary pinch because of Gerut, we are screwed next year. He is making $1.7775M this year. How much of a raise is he likely to get in arbitration? My guess is not much.
  12. This sounds like a goo time to try Braun in right. I wish Hart well. Without him I don't have a favorite player on the team anymore.(Weeks being the other)
  13. Why is that? He isn't a free agent after this year.
  14. It looks like a list of guys that we might offer a one or two year deal to. The best bet other than a trade looks to be signing a couple guys to short term deals until our talent in the minors can develop.
  15. He won't be a #1 or #2 hitter right away, but he should be in a couple years. I think this is a good argument to hold onto Hardy for another year and give Escobar an extra year to mature. At least wait a couple months into 2010 to give us an extra year of Escobar service time. Unless of course we get a good return for Hardy.
  16. I doubt moving Hardy and adding Escobar's bat or defense would make us a better team than our current infield configuration. Moving Hardy makes little sense to me unless it is to a different team for a pitcher.
  17. No thanks. Patterson is a horrible player. This acquisition makes no sense unless we need a AAA CF for some reason(or if we are trying to make a trade to the Reds so Baker can play him more). He posted only one average or better wOBA season and that was in 2003. His defense is barely above average.
  18. Holy crap. I hope he never plays on the MLB roster. I have nightmares of Macha batting him leadoff.
  19. And as far as the general criticism that Doug doesn't know how to identify pitching, I'd say Sabathia was a great target, as were Halladay & Peavy. Those were two of the rumored three targets that got hurt, Bedard being the third. I have to think that Bedard was option C. To be honest I would determine the ability to identify pitching as being to identify borderline guys. The guys you name are all obviously talented guys that almost any fan could even identify as talented.
  20. We all know that pitchers need time in spring training to wok their pitch counts up as well. We can't compare offseason, or any other type of training for that matter, to actually pitching in games.
  21. But I would have settled for the Anundsen, Rogers, or Braddock types if that would of been possible. Trading Cameron for a guy like that makes little sense honestly. We get worse and probably lose out on any chance of resigning Cameron. We can pick up a guy like that with the sandwich pick Cameron is likely to net after the season. Worst case scenario outside of an injury is Cameron comes back or we get a sandwich pick.
  22. There were 39 guys on the 40-man roster. Vargas took the 40th spot.
  23. You are right that Hoffman will probably be an A. Cameron appears to be firmly entrenched as a B right now. I also would love to see Cameron back next year. Gerut may be ok in CF for a year. I would prefer Cameron.
