  1. To be fair, the assertion (if I may take this liberty) is that Hart is not a great player, and said sample represents his true talent -- where 2007 does not. I don't think anybody is saying he is a great player. I do think many people are saying Hart is a bad player and should be playing very little or should be replaced. I am saying that they are picking a time when he played poorly and saying that is what kind of player he is. I think the time when he played well is getting ignored. I think his talent lies somewhere in between where most of the claims seem to be that he is the player he has been over the last year.
  2. If by ok you mean average then I agree. His 2006 was almost exactly league average that year. I think most people are to easily dismissing his 2007 season. .759 OPS compared to a MLB average .798 OPS for right fielders, it isn't terrible. The OBP for 2008 sucks, but overall it isn't as horrible as it is made out.
  3. I really don't want Peavy if it is going to cost us any of the following Gallardo Parra Bush Fielder Braun Hardy Weeks(I know he can't be traded while on DL) Cameron Gamel any of our top 10 prospects They guy will be expensive and if we have to give up pitching, I don' think he is much of an upgrade over Gallardo or Parra long term and trading Bush to get him would probably require one of our top prospects. We need most of our top prospects over the next 2-3 years to plug holes from other players leaving. Trading one of our MLB players leaves a hole right now. Hart I am 50/50 on including in a trade.
  4. Hart also had a .353 OBP in 2007. This was after he already had 300+ AB at the MLB level so it isn't like he snuck up on people that year. I wouldn't claim that his true talent is what he was in 2007, just that I think people are to easily dismissive of his good year and focusing on his bad year. This year should have only a little influence on what we think of him as a player. We all know he was bad after the AS break last year. I don't see how anybody can't claim using this year and his bad half of last year isn't cherry picking stats. Regardless of the sample size, it is intentionally picking a time when he played poorly.
  5. I see nothing there about him being mentally weak. He just isn't doing what he is asked to do.
  6. I would prefer a Counsell/Hall/McGehee platoon at 2B over bringing Durham in. We already have a bach-up infielder who shouldn't play more than a couple times a week in Counsell.
  7. Can't argue with Braun deserving to be in the AS game this year and I was one of the people dead set against him deserving to be an AS last year. Hardy on the other hand...
  8. We probably shouldn't even think about pitching, hitting and fielding the ball either or we will offend them.
  9. This won't be a story to us in a couple days when the Cards leave town. At least until we play them again that is.
  10. I think they are just mad because they haven't finished ahead of us in the standings since they won the World Series.
  11. Considering the control LaRussa seems to have over the media in St. Louis, I wouldn't doubt that.
  12. What?!We get an aging pitcher and give up half of our future infield along with a pitcher we have control of for at least the next 4 years after this year. We need Escobar and Lawrie in the near future.
  13. I think Macha is fine in this case. Argue a call once in a while. State your case and get off the field. I think that is what Macha did. You are not going to get a call changed in most cases. All you can do is influence future calls. The only time a coach should argue to the point of getting tossed is to protect his own players from getting tossed. Even then, just going out and taking the heat off your player should be enough.
  14. Thanks to the interview today, I have a new signature. About :53 into the interview of Hall about his game winning hit. Link
  15. Hated the red hats. It was very confusing coming into the room and hoping for an out only to find it was the wrong team.
  16. I think the runoff is more likely to fan the flames than just doing their regular untuck-em and high five line. I think it is almost taunting in nature.
  17. No, + pitches is just plain dumb. Especially when you are talking about a guy who threw very little the previous year. The only time you should have guys going over pitches is if you don't care whether you burn out their arm.
  18. I am 70/0 against that steal attempt(hit and run, whatever you want to call it). I think Macha is a little to in love with small ball. However, late in the game in a scoreless game, it makes a little sense at least. Just a very little.
  19. Focusing on developing pitchers and hoping some turn out is good. Investing money in pitchers is very risky. They get hurt much more than position players do. If you are going to trade for pitching prospects, I would prefer to get a couple 2nd tier pitchers over a top tier guy. I would also prefer that extra players back in a deal be pitchers.
  20. Aren't ninjas disgraced samurai in many cases? It isn't like they couldn't fight straight up. They just made the odds better through deception.
  21. "Joe Morgan has the weekend off" Hooray, there is a god.
  22. I think the injury concerns for Peavy have more to do with his heavy workload more than anything else. He has thrown a lot over the last few years. Edit: It isn't his total innings so much as how often he goes over 110 pitches.
  23. The difference between the value of a catcher on defense and a LF is huge. Braun is relatively average for a LF and Mauer is by most accounts a very good defender. If Mauer and Braun are anywhere close offensively, Mauer is far and away the better option.
  24. Pictures of pizza on the grill are better than just describing it. The recipies for the sauce and dough are around replie #83-86ish http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/09125ea69c8392a78efcd90b365122801a721de.jpghttp://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/2b025826e688d2cd842cbcad52bc18bcfd18db7.jpghttp://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/14715767802c8fc725cd682d1c921252bda2c63.jpghttp://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/da925966368af21a89bc6d24491b486d0b87b87.jpghttp://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/80725a36328c3299852cffc97e6b24d0dd8dd4c.jpg
  25. I think the lineup is actually pretty good. Lots of lefties against a RHP. Only thing I really question is McGehee in the 2 hole. Not a big problem with that either.
