  1. They get a pick where they drafted last year, not a sandwich pick. Colbyjack has a draft resource thread. Link Melvin's gamble of picking up Cameron's option is probably going to cost us a chance at signing a better pitcher now. We will still have to pay most of that $10M coming off from Cameron's contract right back into arby raises in 2010.
  2. The Yankees also have 2nd round pick from last year as well I believe. Nobody is saying that any of these signings are going to hurt the Yankees. They could have upgraded catching or 2nd base. They could have afforded to trade one of their better pitching prospects to the Brewers for Mike Cameron and signed Adam Dunn. That would have had a bigger positive impact than signing Teixiera. The point is that no matter how much money the Yankees spend, they are still spending poorly.
  3. The main issue is that they can basically grossly overspend to obtain any player they want, and prevent other teams from even having a chance to sign them. and still miss the playoffs because they didn't properly build their team despite seemingly unlimited resources.
  4. I disagree that Escobar is underrated on this site. I think he just happens to play the same position as one of our best MLB players. There is also the fact that our team no longer sucks like it has in the past. I would say that people on this site rate Escobar higher, or at least a few do, since there are very few people who want Gamel up next year and several want to trade JJ and bring up Escobar. I know some of that is strengethening our team's pitching.
  5. My feelings towards the Yankees up until about 4:35 today could best be described as indifference. They were just another AL team. Now I am drifting back into the HATE category. Activley cheering against them. I have a neighbor who is a Yankees fan and if he had a dog I would seriously consider kicking it. Objectively this is probably a better signing than the CC one and the Yankees are having a pretty good off season. The problem is that I am a Brewers fan and this really sucks. This is just a tick above worst case scenario. Sheets also signing with the Yankees would be worst case scenario. Not sure if they can sign another Typa A free agent.(if that has been posted in this thread I will get around to reading it so you don't have to post again if you don't want to) Silver lining is that at least we are not the Blue Jays. I think the Yankees' revenue sharing / luxury tax payment is going to be higher than some teams payrolls for the next few seasons. The Yankees are going to be paying less in luxury tax because of their stadium debt.
  6. We don't know if he has even been offered a multi year deal. He might not get enough money in a multi year deal and be forced to take a single year deal to work his value back up. I am sure Gagne wanted a multi year deal last offseason and we know how that truned out.
  7. You only lose one draft pick for signing a player and only if they are a class A. Signing Sheets to a series of one year contracts wouldn't be the worst thing in the world as long as the money doesn't get crazy.
  8. If a player is injured their stats are extrapolated over a whole year(I think) so the only way a player will affect their Class A or B status is playing poorly.
  9. Rechargeable batteries and a component cable(if your TV can handle 480p). I hear Boom Blox is a good game.
  10. Like I said, "most of the time." Players stick with Boras and keep going to him so he must be a good agent.
  11. Scott Boras just tries to get as much money for his guys as he can. He isn't doing anything wrong most of the time. It isn't Boras' fault the Brewers don't have the resources to offer the most money to players.
  12. Well I wanted 2 guys better than Suppan and this would be one. One more to go.
  13. I guess you and I just see things differently. Unless somebody posts a link or quote I take almost everything posted here as opinion.
  14. So OOTP can be played solo? How much fun is it solo?
  15. Wrong. Nobody is blaming Mark A. for any of the bad trades that went down. The Suppan and Gagne deals along with the firing of Yost are all moves that seem out of character for Doug Melvin. Nobody has ever claimed the Mark A has for a fact meddled in the deals. Nobody has ever claimed that it isn't his right to do so either. Almost every other deal is either short term(Kendall, Cameron) or with a player we have control of ans buy out a couple free agent years(Hall, Braun). If we blamed every bad deal on Mark A. we would also be putting the Hall deal at his feet as well. As of yet that has not been the case. If you think that Melvin is 100% responsiblefor every deal, that's certainly your right. I and others just disagree.
  16. Melky Cabrera has improved his plate discipline in winter ball Wow, that's a really small sample to make a decision on. Good story to save face though.
  17. A pitcher pitching in the WBS is much harder on the arm than pitching in the winter leagues or in Spring training. The arm is ready when the winter leagues start and most pitchers don't throw all their pitches until later in spring training. Using all your pitches in the WBC is a good way to get hurt when your arm isn't ready to start throwing all pitches with max effort.
  18. I think it is about average right now with Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan and McClung. My big concern is that there is no way all those guys stay healthy. We need at least 2 guys as depth. If we could get a couple guys better than Suppan, I think we would be set.
  19. I also didn't like the "safe haven" aspect of the vent thread. I thought there was a lot of venting in most of the threads for much of the season so I didn't think that the vent thread was much help in that respect.
  20. So did I. I am sure we can sign Glover a month into the season if need be.
  21. So to interpret, he thought it would be more pressure to play in Milwaukee than in New York? That has to be the funniest thing I have heard in a while.
  22. The 2 things that I liked about this trade are 1. I think it showed that Melvin is willing to deal almost any player if a team comes to him with a reasonable offer. At the very least he will give a counter offer. 2. If he doesn't get a deal favorable to the Brewers he will walk away from a deal.
  23. It took me an hour to get home last night(left work at 2). The snow on the ground wasn't much of a problem at that point. It was the snow coming down that limited visibility so bad that I had to drive 25 MPH and the ice I had to stop and wipe off my wipers twice on the way home. There were a couple times I I didn't know where the road was for a few miles.
  24. Put me firmly in the "meh" camp as well. These signings won't hurt us, but I doubt they will help much either. I think this is what we can kind of expect until our next wave of cheap talent comes up and we rid ourselves of the Hall and Suppan contracts.
  25. Kenny Lofton as a thank you for trying to talk CC out of signing with New York.
