  1. But we have like $20M in salary coming off this year with all the players that are leaving. And if we can trade Suppan that frees up more money. We could pay Sheets like $30M next year. Seriously though, as a small market club we need to maintain payroll flexability and signing free agent pitchers is a bad investment. Signing free agents in general is a bad investment if the contracts get longer than 2 years. I would have no problem with a 2 year contract for Sheets. The problem is, he is likley to get offered 4-5 and he would be stupid not to take it.
  2. I don't think they should make the mistake of commiting $17M+ per year to Sheets just because they made the mistake of signing Suppan to as much as they did. I would hope they look at the Suppan deal say "lesson learned" and move on. I am not even sure Sheets is the same pitcher he was a couple years ago. He was off all of last year and all of this year since June. I am going to miss Sheets when he is gone, but I wouldn't want to take a chance on him after this year. If they do add pitching this offseason, I hope it is a young prearby guy they acquire through a trade. I think next year will be a down year anyway with Gallardo working himself back up and waiting/hoping for Jeffres to be ready in 2010.
  3. I would question that decision. Edit: I will go one step further and say that may be an even worse situation to walk Hamilton. With the bases empty you would have to then either hold him at 1B and have one of your defenders out of position leaving a hole on the right side or let him move to 2nd on defensive indifference. With 2 outs almost every player should be able to go 1st to 3rd on anything that isn't hit directly at a fielder. So, most likley scenario if Byrd gets a hit is 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. WP or passed ball ties the game.
  4. IBB changed the odds of winning from 95% to 89.8%. There are very few times when an IBB would be a good idea. I wouldn't call this one of them. There is only a 5% chance that Hamilton would have hit a HR.
  5. Trading for Durham was dumb luck because we already had 2 backup infieldrs on the team and would have been better off with a backup outfielder instead. I really believe that if we didn't have Durham, we wouldn't have been seeing as much of Counsell at 3B. We probably still would have been seeing a lot of Counsel but more at 2B and SS.
  6. I don't think giving fans small things to throw is such a good idea. They would have been better off with any state other than Illinois, especially at a Cubs game.
  7. I think they can buy something like 5-10% from a store just in case they run out, but they do have to buy most from distributor. If they could buy hard liquor from a store they could get it cheaper than they can from a distributor.
  8. I honestly would have forgotten how good our defense was this game if they didn't show the highlights.
  9. Well no matter how tomorrow turns out, I am happy with a 3-3 road trip. 4-2 would just be gravy.
  10. I say get more sponsors until we can spend like the Yankees.
  11. You forgot to add all the wins we have starting Counsell at 3B so that must be a good idea thing.
  12. Interesting move bringing in Shouse against a lefty.
  13. This would be ugly for Lowe if the umpire wasn't calling a wide low zone.
  14. I am not sure how it works for restaurants, but I know for bars that they could buy alcohol cheaper at a liquor store than they pay their distributors.
  15. If it is 16 seconds, that is pretty good. About 14.58 seconds for a 100 meter dash(13.3 seconds for 100 yards). That isn't taking into account the extra distance for rounding bases.
  16. I doubt it. We had some side by side photos last time and it still wasn't conclusive.
  17. When speaking of bad service I am talking about getting a menu when you are seated then not seeing a server for 30 minutes. In a case like that I would probably leave a dollar or nothing. That is if I didn't walk out.
  18. I think I usually tipped around $2 a delivery. At restaurants I tip 15% up to 20% for good service and down to 10% for bad service. If I get really bad service I will not leave a tip at all. I don't care if waiters don't get paid much and depend on tips.
  19. But Tom H says that playoff teams sweep bad teams.
  20. I am not sure why people think steroids should be such a big black mark on Selig. He had to get the strongest union in the US to agree to testing. I wouldn't say that he was innocent in the thing, but steroids have been around for a long time in baseball. It isn't like they just started in the 90's.
  21. I does come down to what people believe. Most of the criticism(on the offensive side) comes from people looking only at this year and ignoring Weeks career stats.
  22. Well how seriously can you take a blog when only triple crown stats are shown? All hits are not equal.
  23. Flag poles and hills in CF for everyone.
